First two games to be part of Midway Arcade Treasures
Well, looks like more good news today on the Mortal Kombat front. It seems rumors of classic Mortal Kombat games being bundled are true. At the Gamer's Day in Las Vegas today, Midway announced that Midway Arcade Treasures II would contain both the original Mortal Kombat and the highly acclaimed sequel, MK II. From the article at GameSpot:

The second classic compilation will feature more recent games than the first, including the original Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, NARC, and Total Carnage.

IGN Updates
While IGN doesn't really mention anything that we at Mortal Kombat Online haven't confirmed earlier, it does mention the existence of an X-Box and PS2 version. Unfortunately, no word on GameCube.

They give their own 2 cents on the article; mentioning the confirmation of Baraka, Scorpion, Mileena and Sub-Zero (fairly conservative, since many websites and individuals swear they see other Kombatants as well). They also mention that the Baraka vs. Mileena fight clip was part of an FMV scene and not actual gameplay, which was safe to assume already.

Announcing Mortal Kombat Bible!
It's official... hell has frozen over. After a year of waiting, Mortal Kombat Online is proud to announce the opening of its long-awaited Games Section, appropriately titled Mortal Kombat Bible!

For the record, we had originally intended on creating a database-driven games reference. We actually did get quite a bit finished on the original games section, and for that we thank those who worked on it, especially Potent-Seed. However, we were recently approached by Jason "skizelli" Shearer about hosting his Mortal Kombat Bible. We were blown away by the sheer amount of detail and work that had gone into this document, and we realized that both it and he were exactly what we needed. We're happy to announce that Jason has joined MK Online's staff. For now the original Mortal Kombat Bible text document will temporarily be available on the MK Bible site located at http://www.mortalkombatbible.com/, as he works towards creating a fully interactive version of the Bible, to be released within the next two months.

On a somewhat unrelated topic, we would at this time like to announce that Robbie "DigitalNinja" Reilly has since left Mortal Kombat Online to join Midway! He has been a valued member of our site, and we wish him well in his new position.

In any event, we would like to congratulate Jason and Robbie on their new positions, and would like to welcome you to Mortal Kombat Bible - The Ultimate Mortal Kombat Reference.
Midway Officially Announces Mortal Kombat: Deception!
Midway released a press release officially announcing the next game in the Mortal Kombat franchise, Mortal Kombat: Deception! From the press release:
CHICAGO – February 27, 2004 – Midway Games Inc. (NYSE: MWY), a leading software industry publisher and developer, today announced that the official title for the new version of the world-renowned fighting game franchise will be Mortal Kombat: Deception. Mortal Kombat: Deception is currently in development and scheduled to ship fall 2004 for the PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system and the Xbox(R) video game system from Microsoft.

Shocking and evil,
Mortal Kombat: Deception pushes martial arts-style fighting and the Mortal Kombat franchise to new heights with an innovative fighting system, unparalleled depth and brutally intense action that will appeal to long-time Mortal Kombat fans as well as next-generation gamers. The game features lightning-fast hand-to-hand and special weapons combat, secret and returning characters, moves and combinations with new death-dealing battles and fatalities.

"Mortal Kombat: Deception promises to take this revolutionary fighting franchise to an new level", said Steve Allison, chief marketing officer, Midway. "With a host of new features including multiple fatalities per character, multi-tiered interactive backgrounds and extensive new game modes, Mortal Kombat: Deception will set a precedent for all other fighting games to follow."
The lack of mention of the Nintendo GameCube in this press release seems to confirm the rumors that MK: Deception will not be released for that system. The game is current scheduled for a release sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.

Mortal Kombat: Deception Website Online!
Midway has brought the official website for Mortal Kombat: Deception online! The site, which requires Flash, currently only has an animation of thunder and lightning surrounding the MK dragon, similar to the attract mode of Mortal Kombat II. The MK: Deception trailer featured GameSpot is also available to watch or download.

The MK: Deception website is located at http://www.mkdeception.midway.com/.

Our thanks to MK Online reader Joe for the heads-up on this story!

UPDATE: It appears that the trailer on the website is in fact an uncensored version of the GameSpot trailer, complete with a full view of Scorpion's stage fatality on Baraka, blood splattering the MK dragon, and other changes. Our thanks to our readers for this heads-up on this correction.
