Fifteen years after the last Mortal Kombat sequel received its theatrical release -- excerpts from a new production script have been teased by director, Kevin Tancharoen!

Released via micro-blogging site Twitter (@KTANCH), the script snapshots [below] offer the vaguest glimpse into a reboot still largely enshrouded in mystery. Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Jax feature in expected roles, but Kabal adds an unexpected reference to excite fans of the games.

From the Palace Gates of Shang Tsung's Island, to the very top of the Pyramid of Argus: for twenty long years, characters from multiple realms have battled it out in a tournament called Mortal Kombat! Now, the kombatants face the greatest fight as we call upon the entire fanbase for the ultimate challenge!

In the early days, you could take for granted that Liu Kang would be the hero of the hour, but as Mortal Kombat has developed in complexity, the question of who truly reigns supreme becomes increasingly open to circumstance. As April approaches, the debut of the long-awaited Mortal Kombat digital series draws ever nearer. Director Kevin Tancharoen debuted the original Mortal Kombat Rebirth project back in June, and since that time Warner Brothers took an official interest in the short film, wishing to develop a series with the cast and crew. Recently, the director sat down with MovieWeb to answer a few questions regarding how the series came to be, specifics on a few of the episodes and an expected release date of the first episode.

Director of the upcoming Mortal Kombat digital series Kevin Tancharoen (@KTANCH on Twitter) has posted the first full photograph of Scorpion, portrayed by Ian Anthony Dale [full cast list].

As can be seen from the above photograph, the look of his costume is very similar to his look in the early games as well as the movies. This is to say it is strikingly different from what we saw in the Rebirth trailer [full story], in which we only saw him sporting a prison jumpsuit. This shot of Scorpion in a snowy forest could imply a meeting with rival Sub-Zero during the feature episode for the ninja spectre.
