Twisted Metal Mascot a Near Miss for Mortal Kombat

Once regarded an improbable oddity; the fighting game guest character has become an industry standard. The invasion of outside forces remains a controversial topic for hardcore fans of any series: Mortal Kombat has become a seasoned veteran of the crossover concept, accepting fights at home and abroad.

Kombatants were first establishing their crossover credentials as far back as the nineties. Characters like Sub-Zero and Raiden have lodged appearances in various series, including: NBA Jam, Unreal Tournament and The Grid. Scorpion made the latest Kombat crossover earlier this year, appearing as a Jim Lee designed downloadable guest in NetherRealm Studios' superhero fighter: Injustice: Gods Among Us. The ninja from Hell is expected to be among the pack-in content in November's Ultimate Edition.

In 2011, Mortal Kombat took a turn playing host to two well known guest fighters: Freddy Krueger (DLC) and Kratos (PS3 exclusive).

Feature: The PSVita Cameo That Shook the Earth- Tremor!

Self-fulfilling prophecy: MKOs Tremor April FoolIn April, Mortal Kombat Online featured classic Mortal Kombat characters who existed in hoaxes and rumor, as well as characters who were nestled deep within the games themselves. We also began the month with our customary April Fool, pulling on references somewhere in between, to allude to some vaguely prophetic, discarded phony DLC follow-ups.

If you're at all worried about spoilers for Kombat on the PlayStation Vita, it's at this point you might like to gouge your eyes out and run screaming into the night, desperately trying to unsee what has been seen [below].

Mortal Kombat on Blu-Ray - with Bonus DLC!

In 1995, Mortal Kombat was released to theatres worldwide, grossing a respectable $23 million dollars in it's opening weekend in the United States. An American launching pad for British director, Paul Anderson (Resident Evil, Event Horizon), the film was also a watershed moment for the licensing of video game properties in Hollywood, which to that point, had resulted in critical and financial failure in the box office.

The movie was the culmination of a licensing agreement between major players of the time, then MK-owners Midway Games, and production studio, Threshold Entertainment. The deal would go on to produce a film sequel; animated series, Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm; live-action television show, Mortal Kombat: Conquest; and interactive live-action web series, Federation of Martial Arts.

Kratos and Scorpion on Playstation Magazine Cover!

As previously announced, Kratos from God of War will make his first appearance in promotional Mortal Kombat media in the January 2011 issue of Playstation magazine (issue 041) along with the recently confirmed Ermac. Kratos graces the front of this issue along with Scorpion, a continuation of their confrontation in the recent trailer.

Kratos in Mortal Kombat?

There have been long persistent rumors of the Sony exclusive Kratos from God of War fame making an appearance in next year's Mortal Kombat game, but most wrote these off as wishes of fans who wanted to mix two brutal worlds together. Kratos has already stepped inside the world of fighting games once, appearing in Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny last year but never before has he seen action on a medium equal to his own in violence and carnage.

Play Tours Netherrealm Studios!

Sony Posts Hi-Res MK2 GamePlay Video
Looks like Sony Entertainment has posted a brand-new trailer for everyone's favorite MK game, Mortal Kombat II, available "exclusively" for the PS3! The trailer has an original kickin' soundtrack playing to MK2 gameplay, showing what looks to be 100% faithful graphics and sound. This trailer is EXTREMELY hi-res at 1920 x 1080.

From the trailer, there appears to be no glitches whatsoever as with previous recent ports of the game (e.g. in MK Shaolin Monks and in Midway Arcade Treasures) other than the fact that the characters appear to have no shadows in the Dead Pool.
