Try to step to the outside of his Ball and chain as I find he is most vulnerable there. Then hit him with a small button chain combo, or thrash him with a weapon attack.
I find low crouching strikes work best, weapon or not as he rarely defends against them.
When he charges at you or swings, either sidestep if possible or block, then retaliate with the above methods.
Certain special moves stun him for a brief moment so press that against him as leverage. Raiden's specials all work against him well if you use him for example.
Some moves do nothing to him at all however so experiment.
Also, keep away from the sides of the arena! He tends to try to trap you there with his attacks and makes it very hard to escape to do much of anything let alone evade his strikes.
If he sucks you in, immediately roll off to the side when you hit the ground or you will be punished for it.
Take advantage of the pillars, both for defense and for distraction as if he is near them, he'll go crazy and usually hit them to destroy them giving you opportunity for a ranged attack that works or a combo if you can get in close.
When at a distance from him, be sure to try and mix up what you are doing with jumps as if you stay away too much he'll do his unblockable ground smash.
Hope this helps you out a bit.

why is it that even on the novice setting, the characters near the end are really hard to beat and are constantly attacking you? I'd hate to think what its like using the MAX setting. Moloch really pisses me off, sometimes i beat him 1 round then he twats me the next, the first time i beat him i used kenshi, and in his tai chi stance just keep pressing [], (on ps2) he does an uppercut then a push, and moloch just stands there and takes it but sometimes he blocks and then kicks your ass. I find it really hard to block and side step, thats probably why i lose alot. Can anyone give me any tips on how to block / side step. other than just press the block button or up or down.

I used Scorpion. I think combos can be the wrong idea to use on big fat guys, so I tend to keep repeated quick short jump kicks over and over again, so that he doesnt have time to react since he's soooo slow :D
Beat Quan Chi easily with Sub Zero and then nearly beat Shang, but not quite........

Scorpion I think is quite good against Moloch. A useful string I would say would be 2,2,4,U+4 and then after that use the sweep D+4 and then start the process again and you should sometimes beat him. Also, something else if he does block any of the hits in the string then try using the sweep again. Good Luck!

I find it fairly to beat him using Subzero.
Get in close and do a small combo 1,2,4..do that twice and then either jump back or do his slide back. Then Moloch will normally do the 2 swinging arm thing, after the 2nd swing go in for another attack.
I have used this method several times now.

I find Sonya's Kali Sticks quite helpful against him.
