Time for another Character Chat.
Thought I better start one as I'm going to be away for a week.
So, Hsu Hao one of the many new characters in DA. Kinda fills the heavily built guy, rivaling Jax I guess.
Anyhow, Hsu Hao was not too well accepted when he was first introduced, however, I would think some people have lightened up to him a little.
So, what are your thoughts?
Chat about:
DA appearence, outfits, fatalities, concept, story, ending etc.
Appear in movie? Played by who?
Return for MK6?
Starter question (feel free to expand and move on): Compared to your first thoughts on Hsu Hao, how do you feel now, about his appearance in the game?
And another: Should he return for MK6, or would you say he has "served his purpose", perhaps like a few others in DA?
Let's, urm, CHAT

To be honest I didn't really like Hsu Hao much at all when I first learned about him. He really had a lackluster appearance, nothing stood out to much about him at first. But, soon after that, I learned to accept him. He's actually a pretty decent filler character, but he has no need to return to MK6. Surely, Mavado wiil, but Hsu Hao was just one of his henchmen, and therefore his storyline is kind of limited to any sort of growth. He's 'served his purpose' as they say, but he did a good job of it. There is no doubt Hsu Hao is a strong character to use in MKDA, but MK isn't all about the gameplay for me. Anyhow, as I said, his story isn't strong enough to prompt any sort of return in MK6.
He had one of the best fatalities in the game though.. it was quite good, and had a nice part at the end with the victim crawling away before dying. Overall, I think of him as a moderate character now. He's nothing really special, but I don't despise him either.

I liked Hsu Hao from the start. A Special Forces traitor = cool. Heart implant = cool. A real Chinese guy = cool. And not another 'typical' Chinese warrior = übercool. Hsu Hao looks more evil than Mavado, even. But that's just my opinion.
I place Hsu Hao roughly in the same category as Jax and Kano when I see him: one style that packs a lot of punch (shuai chiao) and a grappling style (wrestling).
Shuai chiao is not very refined but it gets the job done without much ado. Of all the more throwing-oriented styles wrestling is probably the best in the game: it has a reversal and some very powerful moves. What makes Hsu Hao truly great is his ability to confuse the opponent with his short combos and to randomly use his excellent throw.
His weapons are a bit of a letdown; easy to intercept and the same moves as Kano's butterfly knives.
All the same, I think it's unlikely we'll see him again in the next MK though. But he is great to have around as a non-stereotypical, powerful character. I hope Midway will be creative enough to think of other cool warriors that have the same amount of originality.
Peace,
Q

Well, Hsu Hao is a pretty good character, once you use him properly. He takes a pretty good amount of damage when you perform his combo branch from style to wrestling...to his weapon stance.
However, I don't really like his alt' costume. It's not all that Interesting. Sadly. I'm pretty sure Mr.Hao won't make it to MK6, since he dies in Jax's MKDA ending.

Hsu Hao will ONLY die if Jax is the guy that beats Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. I don't know how many times we need to go through this. I highly doubt that Jax is the one to beat them. If Hsu Hao isn't going to appear in MK6, it'll most likely be for some other reason, not because Jax killed him. If I'm proven wrong I'll eat a slice of humble pie.
Hsu Hao in game though in my opinion is one of the strongest characters in the game when used correctly. 37% style branch combo, good high/low mixups in both styles, especially in Wrestling where he can mixup his two wrestling throws and his normal throw that hits low and is almost 100% safe on block. His Kahn Klap is a good move but his stomp is almost useless. His Fatality is great but his alternate costume sucks (yeah, just take off his hat and call that an alternate costume). My initial opinion of Hsu Hao was that he was kinda like the Ermac of MK6 (ie, a sucky character that no-one liked) but I've grown to realise that he's one of the strongest characters in the game despite his somewhat odd appearance.
And I don't believe he's Chinese either, I think he's Mongolian or something like that.

I like Hsu Hao, and the MK team could have expanded on his story by maybe making him turn on Mavado, and regaining his real heart (not impossible, think, regaining a heart is easier then regaining a soul, correct?). It is kind of sad how he was just the bland character that had great potential. His look is dissapointing, but his ability is amazing. I like the think of him as unreached potential.
and the Sun-Moon sword are cool looking, would be cool to use em in real life

Well as for his look and storyline, I didn't like Hsu Hao and I have only used him once. His Shuai Chiao fighting style felt a bit more fluid than I expected. I don't remember much from his other 2 styles. As most of us know, he was originally going to be a character named Kublai Khan. I would have liked for Hsu Hao to be a Mongolian warrior and not some member of the Red Dragon.
As for his future, I doubt he will be coming back because of Jax's ending. The endings in the MK games don't necessarily mean that person beat such and such. For example in MK4/MKG, Scorpion's ending never indicated that he defeated Shinnok but yet his ending actually occured in the storyline as we can see in MKDA. So as for Jax's MKDA ending, it doesn't indicate that he defeated Shang Tsung and/or Quan Chi but it does show him killing Hsu Hao. So there is a chance that his ending will occur.

His Fatality: Very cool: 4.5/5
His styles: Deadly and fast. Very powerful: 4/5.
His weapon: Very cool and dangerous: 4/5
His looks: Kind a cool: 4/5
I liked this character a lot, but he was just like, "to come and go". The first time I saw him, I knew he wouldnt be an important part of Mk, and he isnt. He was just another Mavado, but only one Mavado needs to stay, so that why they killed him in Jaxs ending, and no other ending contradicts that one.
I dont really mind him, he is cool and all, but if he dies is best.

Hsu Hao is a decent character, as far as looks go he doesnt look to bad altough his outfit is a bit dull, which applies to both his default and alt. His fighting styles are good, he is quite powerful but I think he could be considered a bit cheap because of the simplicity of his styles and the damage they take. He has one of the best weapons in MKDA and as already mentioned one of the best fatalities. His storyline was suitable but does not seem to push him any further than an appearance in MKDA.

Hsu Hao.... he has a lack of personality. And that very much works against him. I originally thought that the Red Dragon was an altogether boring pair, but I guess I lightened up on Mavado a little. Hsu Hao, not so much.
The fact is, there are far better characters that could have filled his position. Perhaps the much ballyhooed Dairou, or the proposed Kai/Sindel. So, as a one shot character, I won't begrudge the MK team his presence. But as a returning character?
I don't think so, Tim.

Well maybe it's because his fighting styles are Shuai Chiao (Chinese wrestling) and Wrestling (the type of wrestling that originated from Greece). His look and styles intended him to be this muscular guy. But we will probably not see him in the next MK.
