I had them both, and MKGold was graphically nicer. I just couldn't stand having those trigger buttons for Block and Run, since I tend to "tap" them. I'd tap the trigger, not push it far enough, and end up taking a hit.

Yeah the DC controller was a very tough thing for me to get used to. And using those trigger buttons for block and run, especially block, is tough, because of the to-the-frame timing I'm used to doing with block.

I don't own MKG for DC although if I found it cheap enough I'd probably pick it up just for the hell of it. I still have MK4 for PC but barely touch it. Its just not a good game.

I owned MK4. I can even remember the first day I got it. It was when it had first came out, and I was with my mom at Wal Mart. I had to beg her to buy it for me, but I just thought it looked awesome. I remember seeing the stage with the blue faces on the walls displayed on the back cover.

As for MK Gold, I never owned it, nor did I actually own a Dreamcast. I played my friend's DC's alot tho. I borrowed MKG off of one of my friends once and had to go to my uncle's house to play it. I remember playing as Sektor in the Soul Chamber stage from MK3, and remember playing in the Church too.

I must be one of the few people that actually think MK4/G was actually a good game. I have more memories of playing MK4 than I do any other MK game, even Trilogy, which I also had.

I still own PSX MK4 and MKG. Gold is, for me, the best MK game to play against your friends who have no real idea of how to play MK - it is by far the easiest to pick up and play, and be capable, within a short amount of time - the learning curve is very low.

It's almost as if they listened to the fanboy 'fans', the one's who loved MKII and despised (U)MK3, and reverted to make them happy. No more silly 'alities', two fatalities per character plus the stage fatals. Dark theme; with more mysterious, old settings (not modern like MK3) and darker music. Every character had the same initial ground / pop-up combos (easy to use any character right off the bat if you know the basic combos) and countless other parallels. Just seems catered to the MK1/2 fans, rather than continue to build on the impressive UMK3 engine.

Anyways, Gold is still lots of fun imo, despite the controller, and I'm glad I got it, for it blows away ps MK4. I have always liked mk4 for it's ambience (music, character designs, arenas, roster, story etc. - especially how it connected with, and built on MKM:SZ - ) so Gold to me was good fun. The fast gameplay is enjoyable, and the game is still great to play against your non mk-versed friends (especialy in practice mode!) It's too bad the home versions of MK4 didn't come up to par with the Arcade, I think this really hurt MK4's reputation, which was tentative already due to the regression from UMK3.

Oh, and the MK2 sounds for the added characters really was a nice touch as well, I liked the nostalgia.

Awwww MK Gold... wowwow

Whenever I see those 3 words I become really SAD. STUPID MIDWAY. Why the heck this game had to be released ONLY to DREAMCAST???

RELEASE TO PS2, even with the bugs. Pleaaaase... I am gonna cry...

Back to the topic, I have:
- MK 4 for PSX
- MK4 for N64 - Emulator
- MK4 for PC
- MK Gold - for Chankast Emulator - no sound, but speed and graphics are nice... some times...

I own the stand up arcade of MK4, plus all the home platforms. I also own both the good, and bad versions of MK Gold. I'm a Mortal Kombat collector.

Just 4, from the PSX, never played Gold. I have a friend who has a Dreamcast and he has Gold but I never go to play it and his videogame is broken, so... I don ́t know when I ́m gonna get the chance to play it! Is it way better than 4 itfself? Are the new characters worthy it?

Never was a big fan of 4 anyway...

I own Mortal Kombat 4 for the PlayStation. The only thing that I hate about it are the graphics which were terrible when compared to the other console and arcade versions.

Thanks, I think if they re-released an online capable MKG for the current or new systems it would create a cult following, I think there's enough interest to make it worthwhile.

They let you rent it all those times, but not buy it? It probably costs the same...

Both and I love the both of them, honestly I never understood why so many people hate those games, MK:G was a little glitchy with Cyrax and his Net at times among some other things but it wasn't a BAD glitch like MK:D's that lead to infinites and shit.

I have both, MK4 for the N64 which was by FARRRRR bettter then the PS.Fact.The PS version was crap, it froze, it loaded beyond forever and just sucked overall. And the 64 version was also graphically better.

I have the MK:G for the DC, the best version IMO but also had the sweetest graphics.

Sad to see MK 4 the most hated MK so far lol, I used to think that MK4 was the worst out of every MK broken down but now I think MK:D is simply because of the ridiculous amount of OTG's, FT's and glitches.

I would love for them to re-release MKG with online capability. It was such a rarity that not many got to witness the real beauty MK4 had. Everyone was just thrown off by the shitty graphics on the PC/N64/PSX ports. When you look at the Ice Pit or the Fire Well in MKG and the detail in Sonya or Baraka it's amazing the difference. And the great thing about MKG is that it is simple enough to pick up and play but you still can become high-level and master it. However, it would need to be fixed if it was re-released because of Sektor's Missile being way to broken. And I suppose some of the animation could do with a nip/tuck such as Kitana's winning pose. The core game is beautiful, it just needs tidying up to become the ultimate classic MK game. God how I love MKG! grin

It would be pointless to re-release with online play unless they fixed all the characters added to MKG. Kitana, Sektor, Kung Lao, Baraka, all broken. Unlimited fans, stupid homing missile traps, its like they learned nothing from making games with these characters before.

Yeah, but it's not like fixing the broken characters is going to turn it into a good game. The fun you can extract from MK4/G is not really based on high level gameplay - much like playing MK1 or 2 over mame.

Yeah, some of the animation work is pretty awful! The camera on the fatalities, and animations when stuck in the corner of an arena....bleh - not so nice. Yet the remainder of the game looks great.
