MK1??? WTF? Why is this coming on DS and not a newer more original game? Oh well, it's still MK on DS, so I guess I'll get it.

I wouldnt read into this that it is MK 1 (which would make absolutely no sense to put that game on a single DS cart). I think this is just the way Gamestop is listing it right now by saying, in a generic sense, "Mortal Kombat".

It might be something non-fighting all together as well (like the MK Cart Racer with Armageddon spruced up or something along those lines). Especially how the DS seems to love Kart racers.

In my heart of hearts, I would hope for Trilogy or Ultimate with wireless play (which would be dope to do at tournaments). Or how about 2 and Ultimate on the same cart?? :)

No, NO Ports! Must be an original MK Game, not a port of an existing one! Maybe a sequal to MK:TE with more characters, but not a remake of port

Where are you getting that the game is MK1? There is no information other than that the game can be pre-ordered. The title may read "just" Mortal Kombat but that may not be official. I assuming the MK Team will change the title to a stupid Gimmick, like most games did with DS and N64, in other words "Mortal Kombat DS, or they might leave the name as it is just because it will be the only MK game for DS at this point.

Well, i'm personlly getting it. I have a ds, and psp. I have Midway arcade tresures Extended play on my psp, is screws up sometimes and goes on its own which i hate. But i personlly agree they should make a mortal kombat UMK3. Or MKT, Or at least MK4 for PSP. It's not fair but i agree to that.

Cool, I'm not the only one who has that problem. It's too bad Midway didn't care enought to make sure the game was glitch-proof before it was released.

I still think and original MK game of DS would be better than a port of an older game. Too many ports and not enough originality.

Is MKT too much to ask? I've seen every MK come back out the last 2 years, except MK:T. Why not have all the fighters available for gaming pleasure.

Though I know the likelyhood of it happening is very low, I hope this is going to be MKSF how it was originally intended storylinewise, of course with modern day gameplay upgrade. That would satisfy what Shaun Himmerick said about how this game wont be a direct port but wont be something completely new either.

I'm definitely looking forward to the game and i'm probably going to buy it on release but i doubt it's Mortal Kombat 1. It's outdated and it wouldn't use the DS capabilities to the maximum. I'm pretty sure a game like UMK3,MKT, or MK4 would make sense. I just hope it is a refreshing original game though.

I wouldn't be wholly against an MKI redux, similar to the new HD Street Fighter II game. New graphics, updated play mechanics, playable Reptile, Goro, and Shang Tsung; wi-fi play... after I get my DS, I'd pay $30 for that.

The game has been announced by Midway; it will be a port of the original UMK3, dubbed Ultimate Mortal Kombat. With that and the news thread now up, I'm going to close this to prevent any confusion.
