MK4 Sucked

I mean, come on. The 3d in that game sucked. There were too many glitches, including the 1 button fatality glitch, secret character glitches, weapon glitches (One time Reiko pulled out a long brown stick that acts like Subby's weapon) and there are really sucky characters like Shinnok and Meat. Who agrees with me?

While MK4 isn't one of my top 3 fav MK games. I don't think it sucked. Till this day (to me) MK4 is the fastest pace MK game to date. MK3 brought offenive kombat for the 1st time to MK , MK4 sped things up a bit. You could get knocked down and before you know it you would be head to head with your oppent again. That is sort of made it fun for me. For me the only real bad thing about MK4 is that it is too cookie cutter. If the MK team would have spent more time on custom combos like they did in MK3 , MK4 could have been a better fighting experiance for me. Everyone having the same moves sort of dulled the game a bit. No style for each the characters sort of turned me off.
Character wise since MK4 , MK hasn't really had a good new character roster like MK1-MKT did. Boring new characters with no style at all like Jerek, Kai,Tanya and Fujun were a big turn down. Only the two main bad guys Quan Chi and Shinnok had some real impact on the image of the game. Those characters meant something to MK as a whole to MK4 rather than just another filler character. The story was just as interesting as ever. Hell the effects even effect the Mortal Kombat storyline till this day. If I had a arcade perfect port I would play it along with MK1-UMK3 ports if I had any.Last but not least I could have done without the in game engine endings. Somewhere cool, but I like the text endings more than CG movies and even MK: DA and MK: Deception's endings. MK1-UMK3 endings have far more detail and meat to the endings. Now the endings in MK are short and disapointment of the lack of detail(MK4-MK: Deception). I know this is a bit off topic, but if the MK team should do CG or game engine endings I would hope that they would have the same impact of the best type of endings IMO the text endings)

MK4 wasn't that bad. They were just new to the 3D thing and in my opinion the Story delivered although it isn't the best storyline in the series.

They needed good gameplay. They didn't have it in MK4. They haven't had it since MKT.

MK4 did, and did dare suck. MKG dared to suck harder. I don't really know how to explain it other than it was the product of what had become the laziest bunch of programmers ever assembled. It is a disgrace to the fighting game world. MK2 outshined MK3 and UMK3 cause people were expecting more of the same, they got it, but didn't like the direction they took by making more of the same look corny, in effort to get beyond the look and go with gameplay. MK4 outshined UMK3 because it was seriously that terrible. Poor UMK3, the love and respect it gets from it's few fans is so rightfully deserved.

Well, despite the graphic engine was broken as hell it used very good lighting effects at the time -save for the character shadows- and good colouring at the effects.
What MK4 really lacked was a good plotline -not just about the sudden threat coused by Shinnok and Quan Chi- and giving a more complex story to the backgrounds of the newer characters.
it was missing something i call as general feeling. the new characters and the rehearsing of the old fatalities and traps was old.

MK4 has it's moments (however few and far between), but coming after UMK and Trilogy, it just didn't stack up. Just about everything in the game reeks of laziness. Still better than Deception though.

Yeah, at least MK4's shortcomings could be attributed to lack of experience in that particular area. MKD was just plain lazy garbage.

Yeah.. It seemed very good and important at the time, like World War II...
I think it would've been better if they didn't have as many glitches, or new sucky characters that they'd only use once...

I think it was terrible compared to the rest, but it was good as an individual fighting game (sort of, not really). On the road to perfection, youre going to make a few mistakes. Granted, MK4 was a BIG mistake, but lets not be too harsh. At least it staged certain events in the Story line, such as Raidens ascension to Elder God. It explains Quan Chi, and how he got to the NeatherRealm. I see MK4 as a byproduct of Deadly Alliance and Deception. No bodys perfect, not Even Ed Boon, and MK4 proves it. I agree with those who said it was good for its time. It introduced the idea of 3d combat, and it also saw the beginning of Weapons. Playing as Goro was also really cool. Scorpions alternate costume was neat too. Other than that, it doesnt meet the expectations of a Mortal Kombat game.

You're bumping too much. It is not allowed. Stop doing so. Consider this a warning.
