Rain, I still don't know why he has such a large fan base even though he was featured in only 1 game.

Scorpion is one of the most worthless characters in the series pound for pound. Considering what he has for special moves, somehow, he's terrible. He is the Triple H of MK. Overrated doesn't begin to describe him.

Sonya, overrated, please if anything she one of the most UNDERRATED characters in the MK bunch, 70% of the time she gets bad raps from most of the MK community, but for me the most overrated MK character is a toss-up between Scorpion & Sub-Zero.

Though I still like him I would have to say Scorpion.

o cmon. Sonya is very overrated. shes like the 10th all time most populare MK character (currently). and she isnt any thing special in any MK. in MKDA she is real good but the bad kind of good. what im trying to say she is cheap as hell in MKDA. and in all the others (besides MK4 cuz i havent played that MK and cant speak for it) she just isnt that good (or atleast not as good as most the others). my point is is that she is no where near underrated. (and Liu , and Ermac arent overrated! Baraka is some even tho i love the bass-terd)

anyways who do i think is the most overrated? hmmmmm.... this is a tuff one. Sonya possibly..... Scorpion maybe cuz he is the most populare character but has never been one of the very best in a MK game except for MKDA...... but im gonna have to say.....

how is he so damn populare? ok lets look into this. in MK2 hes a secret char and is just Scorpion but faster. in MK3/UMK3 his human form is just like Scorpion. his cyborb form is just a rip off of 4 characters. Scorpion, Reptile, Sektor, and Cyrax. and he has a stupid fatality. i dont understand how so many ppl can like a rip off character. sure a lot of ppl like Frost who is like a rip of Sub-Zero but she isnt one of the top most populare chars ever. anyways thats y Smoke is the most overrated MK char ever cuz he is nothing but a rip off. i mean it would be ok if every thing about him wasnt the same as a different char except for his dumb fatalities.

i do like Noob-Smoke a lot in MKD tho but will always hate him in MK3-MKT for the reasons that he isnt original at all.

as for most underrated character.... i think it has to be Stryker. ppl actually like him (a lot more than i use to think) but hes hated by so many cuz of his character. gameplay wise he is actually really good in MK3-MKT. i hate his guts but still. its like with Bo' Rai Cho. hated by so many yet hes actually incredible gameplay wise in MKDA and MKD.


one last thing.... to the person who said Rain is the most overrated.... well hes in 2 games. UMK3 (console versions) and MKT. he isnt really overrated. he doesnt have a big fanbase. its just that ppl want to see him return like they did with Ermac and other chars from MK3/UMK3.

Human Smoke's popularity with the casual fan/player compared to his usability and popularity with competitive players would make him highly underrated. When you disreguard the opinions of people who don't really matter, Human Smoke deserves every bit of credit he gets. His difference in walking speed, priority and comboability over Scorpion makes him 10 times the character. He shouldn't have been in the game, or Scorpion should have had the pop up combo.

Agreed! Scorpion is by far the most overrated!

In MK1 its Scorpion and SubZero.
In MK2 its Scorpion and SubZero.
In MK3 its Cyrax.
In UMK3 its Scorpion, Cyrax.

I think if you ask 100 random people how they play best with in MK3, 30-40 would say Cyrax (Because you can beat the Singleplayer easy with him, or they got noob friends where the just spam the net and make uppercut ect.)
But of course he isnt nearly as good as people think.

In MK1&2, Scorpion and SubZero are on the Lower Tier (I believe) but most people wouldnt believe it.

But all in all its Scorpion indeed.
(Even Ed Boon think he,s the best wich is a good proof).

I'll have to say Scorpion too. To me, he's never been anything special, and in some games his inclusion seems more forced by Boon and the fans rather than serving a real purpose.

My other big candidates are Sonya and Kenshi.

Scorpion. Its like they got the image right to drive fans ga-ga but they never managed to nail down a solid, useable, player out of him. Maybe in MKDA or MKD, but they don't really matter because their gameplay sucks manifold anyway. Being a good character in that is being the king of the crap hill.

Scorpion- Scorpion's my favorite, but even I'll admit he's pretty damn overrated.

Sonya Blade- No she is not the most important character in the story, no she is not the hero of the game, no she is not the most original character....etc etc. The list goes on.

Shang Tsung- I don't get what the big deal about Tsung is. His story really isn't that great.

johnny cage. @$$. he's soooo annoying with no reason to enter. hes just like the other good guys who also pretty much suck. scorpions fine. he had the most famous move ever. and hes ool because hes generally neutral meaning no-one owns him and he does what he wants. he and sub-zero carried mk to where it is no matter hat you say. i know about 50 people who have playued the game once like 5 years ago and all they remember is the dragon logo and those two ninjas. cage=@$$

Yes, Sonya IS popular, and yes, she is special in Mk.

To start, how can you say she isnt that good in the other mk games?

Mk1:

She is Top Tier in, being the N1 character of that game, the best. Her Leg Grab and sweep are just brutal. Wave Punch is also very tricky.

Mk3:

She is surprisingly fast and deadly in Mk3. Her Leg grab, vertical bicycle kick and wave punch are among some of the best special moves. While she can be defeated by others, she sill forms part of the Top tier characters. Powerful.

Mk4/G:

Wow. She has some of the most damaging combos! She is very fast and her special moves are still as good and useful. Her weapon is amazing. Not the best, not the worst, yet a Top Tier.

Mk5:

Without a doubt her best game, she is among the most powerful, top female character and top above many males. Even without her trademark moves she managed to reach the Top Tier thanks to her Take Kwon Do, Kali Sticks and Kiss of Death. Plus, her Power Up is one of the most effectives after Drahmin, Nitara and Kung Lao.

And as for being cheap, check this game again, all top characters are cheap, MKDA is overall a very unbalanced game.

Story wise. She is special. She is the original chosen female, and so far, the ONLY chosen female to represent earth in battle. She fought to save the world in all Mks. She also fought for the destruction of the Black/Red Dragon and evil overall.

Being in almost every MK game, and being the only female who has been in most mk games makes her important. Without her, probably some parts could had not been achieved.

Yes, she needs a new storyline for its already too repetitive, but she is not the only character with this problem, seeing as how we have many fighters who NEED a story evolution like: Scorpion, Rayden, Kitana, Kano, Goro, Shao Kahn, Johnny Cage, etc.

You see? Any character can do much for the story if well developed.

In conclusion:

-She is popular.
-She is very powerful in all Mk games, not weak.
-She is special story wise but needs a change like many others.
-She is not overrated.

As for the MOST OVERRATED character:

Scorpion.

But he surprised me in MKD. He had a new decent story so...that adds some points, but he is overrated.

I would like to add Kenshi i see people having banners of him everywhere i dont see what the big deal about him is hes only been in 2 games but still.Hes Ermac with a blindfold and a x-mens costume and he has ermacs teleslam which is a blanton rip off.

Sonya top tier in MK1? huh? shes the worst in MK1!!!!! absolutly sucks in that game! (well shes good in MK1 but still the worse of the 7)

MK3 she got a minor improvement. overall still no where near top tier. nearly every character... if not ever character is better than her in that game.

MKDA she isnt top tier. MKDA is by far the best game she is in and she is actually good in it. but i dont like her in it cuz ive never been one to play as cheap characters. her styles is what makes her hella cheap. i mean u can do like a 6 hit combo by pressing 2 buttons. CHEAP! dont get me wrong. im not saying she is bad. i just personally dont like to play as characters that feel like they r made for noobs.

by the way none of her specials were ever actually good. except for those she has in MKDA.

I can't really speak for MK1 because I don't like it and thus don't play it much. For MK3 and UMK3, Sonya is a power house. I don't think she's top tier in tourny play, but in 95% of gameplay I'd say she is definately a character that could get a winning streak. I would have to rate her better then a bunch of the other characters like Shang, Sheeva, Scorpion, Sektor, Mileena, probably a bunch of others. She has the big damage combos, her leg grab is very high priority and extremely fast, and her d+lk is practically impenetrable.

Well you are wrong on your UMK 3 observation of him. He's #1 on the game on umk3. He has an infinite he has ermacs launcher combo hk,lp and it has more priority than ermac. Scorpion isn't close to top tier.



She was top tier along with cage on mk1. You couldn't jump against her at all it was a free squar flight punch. Her leg grab was unblockable at a certain range and could be used as an infinite at a specific range. Sorry those make her top tier easy.

UMK3 she wasn't top tier but she was high second tier. Her sweep was one of the best on the game and most people don't know the trick to countering a sweep on umk3. She had perfect anti air's without having to learn the run under uppercut technique to counter crossups. She has high damage combo's. No she easily qualified as upper tier on that game.

I think that Jax is overrated, he have been in every MK game(except MK1 and MKD) he even was in a MK game made just for him(MK Special force) and this game was terrible...

Ed Boon seems to like him a lot
