Those are from the Arcade version of MK1. The method of fighting Reptile is double flawless, no blocking, fatality on the Pit. There are tactics to beat the CPU that I am not fully versed in to get a DF, but pick Scorpion and try with him. Remember that it takes about 40+ matches against the CPU before the shadows fly across the moon on the Pit, else you cannot fight Reptile.

Sub-Zero is also a good choice considering who you are fighting. Certain people fall for the freeze more and the slide is always good for when they are off guard.

Here's a tip that used to work on the Snes version but I don't know how it works on the Arcade version.

Just back into your corner and keep jumping backwards. But space your jumps by a second or two so you can always dodge any projectiles they throw at you or just only jump when they come lose.
Now this is the part where you beat them. They will come over to you and all you have to do is keep jumping kicking them but backwards so that you land always in the corner. They will either always walk right into the backwards jump kick or they will try and jump at you and still get hit.

Once in awhile they might not come over to you and throw projectiles which can mess you up. Just have quick reflexes or you will get hit.

Keep in mind I only tried this on the Snes version and it's still probably not the best way but it was the best way I knew when I was like 8 or something. Considering I was 8 when I did this, means it's possible but luck might have been a factor always too.

That strategy does work on SNES, and a similar jump kicking method works on the arcade. There's a distance and timing to it. There's also a version of MK1, if not all, where the freeze if timed right, is unblockable as the person is getting up if they attempt to block, I don't know if that works on the computer.

Yea, I'm pretty sure the timing for the freeze is in between their ground animation and standing animation.

You gotta fire it off almost right away but not right away. They have to be getting up off the ground otherwise if done right away I think it just goes right to their blocking/standing animation.

WTF? The last 3 pages of this entire thread have been about friggin' Ermac...only about 5 mentions of Shang Tsung (the only person this thread is about)....

Anyways, the pic of him looks freaky. He would make a great sub-boss. Maybe right before you face the Dragon King in Deception, you have to face Shang Tsung...and after you beat him one round he transforms into his true form and then you have to beat him again. Only this time...he's one hard mother******! LOL

Alright.... reverting this topic back to its original subject...

Why can't you people just accept that the picture this thread is based on is nothing more than concept art?! If we took all concept art and made it canon, than Kintaro would be Tony the Tiger on steroids, and there would be a mysterious random sorcereress with hooked scraf thingies wandering around the MK:DA scene. Unless it's retconned and stated as canon, the pic of mutant Tsung is no more canon than are all the people from Outworld Mutants. Hell, why don't we just rename Sindel "Muchacha"?
EDIT: Also, before someone else brings this up yes, the characters in the conept art are part of MK, as Tobias has stated them to be among the many generic kombatants who don't play a large role in the storyline, unless retconned. However, this applies to their looks only. Not their storylines. So that picture may be called a kombatant, but it cannot yet be called Shang Tsung.

Wow, I never knew this thread existed. Shang Tsung is my favorite character and this just adds to the coolness. But then we must remember that we are now in the MK era of Boon's Mortal Kombat. So concept art or not, it's pretty safe to assume to scratch that idea off. Still sweet none the less gives him a biblical appearance and that's cool in a mythological way.

Shang Tsung is an earth warrior who won a MK before even Kung Lao. After winning a championship he wen't evil and became a bodyguard to Shao Kahn. pleased with this champion as his bodygueard kahn teached Tsung this lifestealing ability to lengthen his life to stay bodyguard.

The rest is history, Shang lost MK to Kung Lao and couldn't return to Outworld unless Earth was conquerd. He aged slowly (very slowly) and MK1 the game strated.

The picture of the demon was originally for Shang Tsung, but they stayed away from that design. I believe that baraka was based out off that design.
EGM coberd that a long time ago.

I think he looked in the mirror, gasped, and instantly decided to make a human form. He was under so much stress, he accidently made his human form an oldy. He met Goro and thought, maybe if I conquer earth through Mortal Kombat tournaments, I can look good again. So he lost and stuff. Then MK2 happened. Shao Kahn made Shang Tsung no longer an oldy, and he was so happy, he decided to serve shao kahn.

Tsung was a demon who served Shao Kahn. Many years back he became the winner of many Mortal Kombats. On the 10th MK, Kung Lao the 1st defeated Tsung, which made Kahn a very unhappy emperor. For his failure, Kahn sent Tsung to the Cobalt Mines for slavery. There he found Goro, and made a new plan. Kahn accepted the plan and Tsung won 10 more MK tournaments. But on the last one, Liu Kang defeated Tsung. Then, before he was being executed for his second failure, he told them his second plan. Lure all the Kombatents of MK to OutWorld, where they will meet certain death by Shao Kahn himself. Kahn gave Tsung his youth back and he had to take souls to keep him young. Then Kahn came back and remembered Sindel, his lost queen. Tsung, being the leader of the Shadow Priests, brought Sindel back to life, thus regaining control of Edenia. Blah, blah, blah, Kahn was again defeated by Kang. Nothing really happened for him during MK4. Then he teamed up with Quan Chi to form the Deadly Alliance. Then the DA was defeated and he is pronounced dead.

Here is Shang's true story up until Goro loses to Liu Kang. Most of it is from the Animated movie, 'The Journey Begins' as it explains the history of MK very well actualy.

He was an earthrealm warrior that was invited to compete in Mortal Kombat, which at the time was a noble competition where the best warriors from the realms would compete against one another to see who had been trained the best. No one would ever dream that one realm would beat the other in 10 straight MK's.

But Shang lost in the MK tournament and (somehow, I don't remember) ended up in Outworld (Shao Kahn took him there himself or something.) Well, while in Outworld he was taught the black arts by the emperor himself. This is how he learnt to steal his defeated foe's soul. With his new skills and the fact that he had become corrupted, he once again entered Mortal Kombat, unknown to the Temple of Light master's that he was fighting on the side of evil.

He quickly defeated his opponents and fought his way to the final battle against the Temple of Light Grandmaster. They fought evenly for a while, but it was as if Shang could read the master's thoughts. This is exactly what Tsung was doing, as he was looking into his enemies soul and reading his every move. The master realized this and tried to clear his mind, which gave him the upperhand for a litlle while. But then Shang once again took control, won the fight and took the Temple of the Order of Light
s Master's soul. From that day on the tournament would be corrupted and used as a way to gain control of Earthrealm.

So he won 8 more MK's - 9 in total, and was 1 victory away from opening the Portals and giving Shao Kahn the keys to Earth. But Shang had underestimated Kung Lao, who won the fight for Earthrealm and protected it for another 10 generations.

Shao Kahn was furious so he sent Shang Tsung to slave in the Cobalt Mines, where he met Goro.
In the next MK, he sent Goro to defeat Lao, and win for Outworld once again. Even though Lao put up a good fight, he was no match for Goro. Lao gave punishment that a normal man would have died from, but it only angered the Shokan prince. He then beat Lao, and finished him.

Goro then won 8 more MK's, until Liu Kang beat him to stop the 10 straight.

And I'm sure you guys know the rest...

The "Ermac" does exsist in some build of Mortal Kombat. It's not a seceret character, it's some fault in the programming, shortned for Error Macro. Ed Boon himself verified that this error had exsisted in a certain build of the game.... For those of you asking for proof or a screen shot im not sure you get it... Your not suspoes to find the Error, everything is working right when you don't see it, that's why the exsistence of the error is questioned. It was enver suspoes to be there, it's like the frost ground ice glitch in MK:DA it's not suspoes to happen. As far as proof im pretty sure the lead programmer/co-creator of the series might possibly know more than the people on this forum.

As far as the explination of shang tsung... They made him an old man to give him a different feel for the final boss in mk1, and like someone said early made him old to add to that old wizard sorcerer feel. He was a popular character and thus wanted to implement him in MKII. The issue o him floating, and being old had to be addressed so that he could become playable and have the same move set's as the other characters in MKII. They created the "restoring of the youth theory" as an explination as to why shang tsung could walk around, and use everyone els moves. While still giving him the ability of MK1 to change into other characters. So shangs story sorta was created out of necessity. This is why there are holes in MK storylines everywhere, not everything was thought through, as the team thought there would be only 1 game.

The rest of Shang Tsungs story was left to interpitation by the rest of the games, and the expanded universe. And id assume the mk team would explain shangs human experience in something like this. He had to take the form of a human to compete in mortal kombat. Shangs human form is a reprisintation of what his apperance would look like if he were human. It's fun specualting about it all.

He was a sorcrror in MK1. After Liu Kang killed Goro and killed Tsang Sung, Shao Kahn was mad. Tsang Sung told him a plan and Shao Kahn liked the sound of it and gave him youth for it(Thus his 20-some appearance). I dont know how he was a Demon though.

Here's another list...

The three best things in this thread:

1. Tsung "true form" artwork
2. Ermac discussion (non flaming)
3. Hyuga totally owning KungBroken in the battle of "He doesn't exist because I say so and because the message in MKII means something for MK I because I SAY SO" vs. "He doesn't exist because I have looked at every single aspect of the game on a programmer's level."
