No,Ermac does not exist in MK1,and MK2
Although people love to make fakes of him in MK1 and try to prove it real.

Ermac is in MK1, but as a glitch. He originated from a glitch when the ninjas color pallete didn't load properly, and became red. His name showed Ermac. This is because he was an ERror MACro. Hence, Ermac.

I have never seen a true Ermac in either game, so I'm not believing it. Though it would be kool to run across this "glitch" someday, its probably not gonna happen.

Ermac appeared as a glitch in MK1. I never ran into a Ermac glitch, but it was talked about alot. Fans try to prove him real by making fakes of him alright. Ermac in MK2? Sorry, never heard of it. But there is a Skarlett glitch though (again, I never noticed it but it was contreversal among the fans.) The crew created a female ninja wearing a red costume hencing the name Ruby for the MK:DOTR cartoon as a tribute to the fans.

Final word:

Ermac was never in MK1, not as a glitch, or a hidden character, or a palette corruption, or a error correcting script, but only as a myth invented by fans and subsequently abused by Midway to increase quarter drops towards the latter end of MK1's tenure.

The Answer, NO.

Saying that a ninja turned red, heck even saying the glitch happened is one thing. But saying that ERMAC appeared as the name is a lie!

ErMac in MK1 was originaly just a glitch when Scorpion turned ed, I have run across this for a breif moment when the plug-it play-it MK1 battery was low, it was Sub vs Scorp the screen flashed, Sub turned green, Scorp turned red.
There is no MK2 ErMac but there is Skarlett, a female ErMac basically, rumored to appear when Kitana turned red. They made Kitana's double costume in MK:SM red as a reference to this.

Since the names in the life bars are images you are right, but theoretically its possible for the game to text ermac wins

If you see a red ninja in the plug-and-play version of MK1, chances are its intentional. Obviously they know Ermac=fanatical response from followers with no proof and that helps build the lore of a game. And since the plug-and-play version is its own new version, they could have done anything they wanted with it.

It was cool as hell to see Ermac actually in a live MK game in UMK.

Looking for the unlocking code was fun and then inputing it into the arcade was fun and sometimes annoying.

Immature kids who kept coming and pushing the buttons to mess you up.

GET THE HELL AWAY FROM THERE, I'M TRYING TO GET ERMAC HERE!!
can we PLEASE, just make a sticky or something saying once and for all, that Ermac WAS NOT...I REPEAT FOR THOSE WHO ARE NEW AND WHO ARE ARROGANT...ERMAC IS NOT IN MK1, MK2, or MK3. He was only a rumor, and began as a character in UMK3, and that's it...

This is just the tip of the iceberg on how many times this issue has been discussed in this forum. It's a wrong idea to have a STICKY at top of the page??.Having a good thread stickied with all the explanations of this issue could stop the flood of future "Ermac is in MK1" threads.

And all started by this crap....

damn you egm.

I really don't think it's necessary to drag this issue out once again. As stated above, there have been many... many topics about this. If you wanted a clear answer, please use the search feature.
