we ALL heard the Ermac rumors... so how about your "local arcade" rumors that never made it big?

lol, this isn't an Ermcac thread, don't worry.

But Ermac was a big rumor of course, along with the Kano Transformations, "MK vs Street Fighter," the Animalities in MKII, etc. Everyone speculated about these. But I'm sure there were plenty of "local" rumors; stuff that went around at a couple of arcades you frequented, or even just some BS that some third grade kid told you. List all those lesser-known rumors here! And please, no insipid debating... we're going into this discussion with on the premise that everything here is/was complete, proven BS.

So here goes!

- The Question mark in MKII was "Shawn." I heard three versions of the rumor; he was either a six-armed Shokan dragon, the guy Liu Kang fights on the Pit II background, or "the guy that says Toasty," depending on who you asked.

- "Nude-alities" in MK II. A finishing move that would turn your opponent naked. For whatever reason, I accepted this as fact when some kid on the school bus told me about it. I was telling these guys in an arcade about it one time... after that they wouldn't stop making fun of me. The "Sexuality" was another variation and was supposedly only available to the female characters.

- There was an orange ninja named "Lockjaw" in MK1. A kid was bragging that he fought Lockjaw and that he was "even harder to get than Ermac." As a naive seventh-grader, I was amazed when I heard this.

- If you're on the Khan's Arena stage in MKII, and you keep doing the first part of Sub Zero's Ice Breaker fatality (the F,F,D+HK where he freezes you)... after like five straight minutes of doing it, Khan yells "Enough!" and zaps you with his scepter. That one always cracked me up just thinking about it.

- In the Armory, you could do a Stage Fatality uppercut, but only if you were positioned exactly right, so that they landed on the middle panel of the floor.

- Same thing with the Living Forest; supposedly you would knock a guy into a tree's mouth and it would spit out their bones afterwards.

- a rumor about the death pool stage, if you do the stage fatality correctly you can upper-cut your opponent on a hook
- possibility to do a 'spirit attack' that would drain half of your opponent energy(it would work for every characters) once a match in MK3, this rumor made it just before MK3 was released, the news was circulating that MK3 would have an 'extra button' and some people claim that it was to launch a 'spirit attack'

i actually remember that spirt attack rumor..lol i forgot about that 1 lol...

the funniest rumor from mk2 i remember were the animalities...there were even web sites posting how to do them and what not...i remember this 1 guy popping up in the cade w/ the printed faq freaking out that he knew how to do them ..then letting him try and do them and they werent working...it was funny watching him freak out....

I remember that Spirit move thing too, it sounded really dumb. The game hadn't come out yet and already people were talking about a new thing they added.

Someone on TotalMK was talking about Nightwolf's "Stone Break" move that I had never heard about once in my life. He took this, to this day, as fact. "It's a lot harder to break than Sub-zero's ice."

The Keebler Elves were always a good one at our local video store. DreemerNJ kept it alive for a while. I don't remember the "specifics" on how to get them to do their fatality lol.

Fighting Johnny Cage's ghost on the Graveyard was a somewhat well known one as well, but particularly strong around here.

One specifc rumor was from this Bill, he was a "Hick" of a "Man" and he said something about Scorpion having a new move in UMK3, if you hit F,F HP he'd take out a knife and cut your throat, he would try to do it all the time. He never did. I always asked, "Do you mean the axe in his combo?" "No no man, it's a move I swear!" What a farm animal.

Nude-alities were talked about around here as well but not much.

I never saw the babality glitches until way after the fact, but people always talked about them.

1)From MKII I remember a Chow Kang rumor that flew around my local arcade in Ohio. If you remember the bio from MK1 in the comics, it says
Chow Kang was Liu Kang's twin, and his whereabouts were unknown. Well the Pit II backround image was of Liu Kang, but his pants had a green tint to them, besides red, and I guess this is how this rumor was started.

2)Another one from MKII that this guy swears was true that you do some code, and the deastiny ladder rotates around, and you fight all three hidden fighters.

3)The Noob Saibot code from MK4 will enable Noob Saibot if you chose the right person before doing the code.

4)MKII Kano, and Sonya Transformations. Supposedlly you do a move like Shang Tsung's Kintaro punch Fatality with other fighters. They were supposed to morph into eith Kano, or Sonya and do their Fatality. This guy told me that Jax was the fighter you needed to do Sonya's Transformation. I don't believe any of these rumors, but these were round here in Ohio.

this was most from one of the people on the bus that liked mortal kombat to the point it was his religion.
1. Saying sub-zero takes off his part that he died with(never said which one) and these tentacles poped out and strangled the guy. He place the part back in and eat the oppoint. If you pressed a certain button, he would swallow with a gulp or throw up.
He had more out rageous fatalities on the bus, but that was the only one i remebered. This was when mk2 came out in arcades.
And also the killer Instinct vs Mortal Kombat
One of my friends sayed he saw some perviews and found out tusk's animality is tigger.

Isn't this the funnest load of crapp you hear from people?

i've heard a rumor from a fat ass at the arcade...he claim that the REAL MK3 was hidden somewhere in the MK3 game arcade... what he was claiming was that MK3 was a bogus game and that there was another MK3 game(that was better and had fighters like scorpion and raiden in it) that we could access via some kind of codes...

probably a guy who could not accept the reality that MK3 was like it was...

I remember hearing the big rumor about Sub-Zero in MK2. That he supposedly had a third fatality where he morphed into a polar bear and killed the opponent. I also heard that Shang Tsung was also very capable of doing the fatality.

I remember hearing quite a few rumors back in the day, that there was a button trick that would constantly give you free credits in the game. Can't remember whick MK it was though, it was too long ago.

The rumor about being able to uppercut your opponent unto one of the hooks on the acid bath stage in MK2 was also pretty popular. Tons of people talked about that one.


The only rumor that I ever heard that actually became true, was the multiple decapitation fatality trick by Johnny Cage in MK1. The first time I saw somebody beat me and knock of three heads, I went insane! HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!?!?

Mine is a variation on the Kano/Sonya morph. I forget the specifics, but you hade to beat Kintaro in a particular way, and it freed either Kano or Sonya (depending on weather the character was "good" or "bad"). You would then play as the freed character until you were beaten.

MK1-

1. Playing as Reptile, Goro and Shang Tsung by doing some hard B.S. Faded out once somebody did the hard B.S. for nothing.


MK2-

1. A nude code that would enable the nudalities.

2. The hook fatality. So many people said that if you input a certain command right near the middle of the stage you could uppercut your opponent right onto the middle hook on the Dead Pool stage.

3. The tree fatality. Another fake stage fatality but this one seemed actually possible. Another certain command would uppercut your opponent into the tree's mouth and they would be eaten with half their body hanging out. But the thing that made it seem real was that the tree all the way on the right side did have his mouth open and was the only tree like that.

UMK3- Rain being fightable and playable. Lasted pretty long. Took awhile till someone put it together and figured out it was probably a joke.

Those are all I know of. MK2 had the most and had me going with the tree fatality for the longest time.

Yeah the tree gimmick was a highlighly possible stage fatality, the tree on the far right is just screaming "TREE WANT TO EAT PEOPLE!" It probably done like that intentionally to of course, create controversy.

The hang em on the hooks Deadpool Fatality became a reality in one of the MK2 hacks, they don't actually hang, but they do get stuck in air near the hooks.

Ahh ,memories! Rumors were all I ever heard about back in the day

-Reptile being hidden behind the dragon symbol in mk1's character select screen.

-I could have swore I saw a pic in a magazine of Noob being fought on the pit.

-In mkII to morph into Sonya/Kano ,you had to press the directional buttons in the directions their heads were moving.

-Heard something about a red female ninja in mkII "Skarlet" it was similar to the ermac glitch in 1.

Some kid I talked to said that Reptile in MK1, used his acid spit and his eyes would bulge out of his head or something.

These aren't really rumors, but when I was about like 5 or something, I could have sworn I saw these in MK games, but they aren't true:

- Ermac in MK2. I thought I saw him in the middle of the select screen. (He had his UMK3 mugshot in there, I thought) I might have confused MK2 with UMK3, but...
- I thought Rayden's face would just turn gray when Cage hit him in the crotch in MK1 Genisis.. I also remember I could do a crotch on Sonya. She'd just fall down or something.

Beating Jade with only uppercuts unlocks Sonya in MK2, DUH!
Aso when 3 and ultimate 3 came out there was tons of caracter theories
-Reptile was lost,Raiden died,Cyrax and Sektor were Scorpion and Ermac,Kitana and Mileena were killed,Nightwolf was Raiden's son,Sheeva was Goro's wife/Kintaro's sister,Sonya and Kitana being sisters and soforth.
-My friend Robert told me about a purple cyberninja named "Viper",Some in game quotes "Where there's Smoke there's Fire" same thing for "Wind" and Rain .LIES ,ALL LIES! (runs to room sobbing)

I heard a rumour that if you beat MK1 and, get all flawless victories, and do a fatality on everyone(including Reptile), you could fight the dragon from the MK logo. I wasted many quarters on that one. What a disapointment after spending about $100 to find out it was a lie. sad

MK3's arrival brought on a lot of drama with the fans, all those characters were just "gone" and everyone was wondering what happened to them and were making up stories left and right. It was a really interesting time. I remember sitting in Wood Shop in 8th grade drawing pictures with DreemerNJ and looking at the GamePro and EGM magazines when MK3 came out. We were "stoked." Actually we spent most of our time in that class talking about MK. Dreemer made a sketch of Reptile and how he'd want him to look in the next MK, it was pretty much a hybrid of MK4 and MKDA's versions if I remember correctly.

He is not, that rumor came from the vs screen screen code "Rain can be found in the Graveyard" which is a shot at Prince and the song Purple Rain, which is why Rain is purple. This has been talked about on here way more than it should be lol.

MK II:

Some kid told me that if you beat someone with Liu Kang, you can change into a baby and then bicycle kick you opponent to death. I never really believed that one though.

MK III:

That same guy told me there was a third cyborg ninja named 'Detonator'. He was green and had a fatality in which he drags the opponent into himself with a net. Afterwards, bones and blood would spit out of it's back. Hmm, that fatality did become reality afterwards, but the rest was bogus.

Here are the rumurs I remember.
Mk 1:
1.Of course the ermac glitch.
2.Shang tsung made your skin melt down and you where in just bones(this is what I heard)?
3. Goro ripped you in half?
4.Raiden had a second fatality. Some kid told me this one B,B,F,F HP all the way across the screen you had to be and raiden would throw his hat at you and cut your head off(YA)?
5.Sub-zero had a second fatality he pulled out a ninja sword and cut your throat?
6.You could a fight one of Shang Tsungs guards?
MKII:
1.The green liu kang in the background of the pit II you could fight him?
2.The Flame guy you could fight by getting a double flawwless on the pit II(Boy that one was hard to do and guess what you got it it didn't work)?
3.Ermac was able to be fought in MKII?
4 The Scarlet character a red kitana glitch kinda like ermac in MK I?
5.You could crab a weapon in the background of the armorer and kill your opponent with it?
6.Animalities?
7.Nudalities?(I wish)
8.Shang Tsung could turn into a goat for a animality(my friend said he saw a guy do this)?
9.Sub-zero's polar bear animality?
10.Milienna turned into a bunny for her animality?

17. You could knock the opponent in the background of the forest stage and the opponent would get eated alive by the weeds?
MK3:
1.Johnney Cage's ghost came out of his crave and ripped your spine out?
2.A rumured pink ninja named pinklet?

This all I remember that was rumured at my arcade.

It was rumored that in MKII, after your perform some special feat on the portal stage, the floating blocks will align into steps and kano will come walking out of the portal for you to fight him.
