I would like all fans of MKT to post anything and everything about MKT. Good or bad, I think MKT was the best Mortal Kombat game so far. I know not many would agree but thats what i think.

Well MK3 always was my favorite but just recently while bored as hell, me and my friend dusted off the N64 and just couldnt leave the game alone. But MK3 was my favorite. I don't know......... I guess Mk3 was better..... but MKT had more people and unlockables.confused I'm confused.

I like the N64 version of MKT and I am on your side, I also like the PSX version as well, but just so you know, this thread will probably start arguments from a few certain people who love to put the N64 version down and do everything they can to make you feel you are wrong for liking the N64 MKT, just a warning of things to come

You are wrong. All your kind should be wiped out.

FACT:
MKT(PSX)>>>MK1(SNES)>>>>>>>>>>>MKT(N64)

No, the N64 version has it's ups. Shang being able to morph into Human Smoke, battle ascention for some classic levels(Goro's Lair>Armory>Kombat Tomb), Kahn, and Motaro having fatalities. Just to name a few.

I'm quite happy with my PSX version, miscolored Ermac, and all.

In my eyes, MK trilogy is just another home version of UMK3 just like the snes or genesis versions. They all added stuff and I don't see how a name change does much more. Mortal kombat trilogy would deffinitely be the best game ever released on a gaming console though.

It seems like the only reason people would prefer N64 Trilogy would be loading times. Otherwise I don't see how it couldbe better.

No, MKT was meant to have a mix of characters from all previous MK's. MKT was made for MK fans, it was based soley on what the PEOPLE wanted. It was no spin off of UMK3 or the such. UMK3 was put out, mainly because MK3 did not take well to the MK fans because it lacked fan favorite characters and really didn't live up to the hype the previous MK's did, so they threw in UMK3 to better MK3.

MKT was put out just to be an all around ass kicking fest, no one really cared about the story in MKT, since it was N/A anyway. So you really can't compare a desperation game (UMK3) to a fan craved game that is MKT, there IS a difference.

Maybe you're right. I know there is a difference but there is no question about MKT being based off Ultimate mk3.

Now I don't know if this is true but I heard umk3 was supposed to be exclusive to the 16 bit systems (not sure about saturm, maybe cuz sega cant sue itself?), which makes sense because PC, PSX, and probably N64 were all capable of producing it. Now 'Trilogy' with a few more changes would be the perfect loop hole.
This is assuming that the game, err... way of life.. was exclusive.

Ahhh..Mortal Kombat Trilogy. The first Mortal Kombat game I played. The game is just awesome, bloody fun. I prefer PSX MKT, but I can only play N64 MKT at the moment. Playing as the bosses was always fun, though EXTREMELY cheap. My favorite boss to play as was Kintaro. I also loved being the ninjas. Had lots of good times with PSX MKT.....

just played mkt on psx greatest hits. I did an air throw on Baraka as a last hit, and when Motaro jumped in, instead of baraka exploding, baraka was thrown ontop of Motaro and became a square box on the ground with baraka's colors. Instead of baraka laying on the ground, it was a square with Motaro's head and a tan fireball. WTF!?! No way to record it but it's funny. In mk3 I remember that When Motaro picked you up, he would sometimes drop you instead of hitting you, doing no damage and giving you a free hit. Was that a glitch? Does it happen in umk3 or trilogy? It was a common strategy to jam buttons so a combo would start if he let go.

Well, yeah all the MK's were based off a previous MK, excluding MK4... But you didn't say MKT was based off MK3 in your original post, you just said that MKT was just another (same game I assumed) MK3. I know it was based on MK3. Thanks for the clarity.wink

Saturn had exclusive rights to >16bit versions of UMK3. So PSX and N64 couldn't have it.

But then MKT came out which is basically UMK3+. Its not an entirely new game in the way UMK3 was different than MK3 and MK3 was different than MK2 because it is UMK3 gameplay, just with more characters added in.

They did their best to implement UMK3 for the arcade's gameplay, and the Greatest Hits version does an admirable job of it, except for the places where the game breaks down. Those places are named Noob and Rain.

MKT was also the first game that I learned how to pronounce some of the character's names, because most home console versions of MK games did not announce fighters names, I learned how to pronounce Tsung, Kahn, and Noob Saibot after I played MKT

I just bought the PSX version of this game today, and it's the first time I've ever played it. It's amazing.

I was surprised that there was even an announcer in MKT, because there wasn't in UMK3. The one thing that bothers me about the announcing though is "AIR-Mack". It sounds better as "Urr-Mack".

I have a question. Why is there a different Johnny Cage in MKT, and why doesn't he have the Nut Punch? Without it, he's not that great.

Johnny Cage was kind of a last minute add-in. He wasn't originally going to make the cut because they couldn't use Daniel Pesina's sprites because of him advertising for Bloodsport. They got Chris Alexander as Johnny and filmed him pretty quick.
Yeah, I don't like him. His win pose gave me the impression that he really didn't want to be there. The only thing I like about him, is he has the sunglasses on all the time.

He doesn't have the nut cracker, because Midway was too lazy to film the hit animations for the new characters.

The announcer was only missing in UMK3 for genesis and SNES. Saturn UMK3 had them, as did almost every version of MK3. And every version of MKT (except game.com of course tongue) had the announcer.

The thing I thought was interesting was hearing Goro's name announced in MKT for PSX. It hadn't been said by an announcer before because it wasn't announced in MK1.

Since this is the "Official" MKT thread, maybe there should be a tally of the known versions of the game:

PSX has at least 3 versions of MKT.
Saturn has 1 version I've seen, roughly equal to the 2nd version for PSX.
PC has 1 version I've seen, also roughly equal to the 2nd version for PSX.
N64 has at least 2 versions of the game, both very different than PSX/Saturn/PC version.

The PC version has some slight graphical tweaks including partially transparent firebursts (when the fire explodes upward from the ground, like a Cyrax bomb or turning invisible). In other versions this explosion has no transparency.

PC and PSX have partially transparent smoke coming off of Robo and Human Smoke. I don't remember if Saturn has this transparency as well.

N64 is missing the following characters:
MK2 Kung Lao, MK2 Jax, MK1 Kano, MK1 Raiden, Goro, Kintaro and Unmasked Sub Zero.

N64 features a masked sub zero that has both masked and unmasked sub-zero's moves.

PSX, Saturn and PC feature Chameleon, a hidden male ninja character that fades in and out of being visible. When he fades out, he fades back in as a different ninja, assuming their moves.

N64 features Khameleon, a hidden female ninja character that can use all the female ninja moves.

N64 features simple fatalities for Motaro and Shao Kahn.

PSX, Saturn and PC have Shao Kahn, Motaro and Human Smoke accessible on the character select screen. These characters are accessed via codes on N64.

N64 has a 3 on 3 gameplay mode.

And Game.com sucks.

The only thing about N64 that is better than PSX is no load time and 3 on 3. That is IT. There is not a single other measurable thing that is better. Everything graphical, sounds, gameplay, stage quality, character count, etc. Better on PSX.

That is all.

funny thing about n64 is that when shang tsung morphs it changes the lifebar i.e. you morph into scorpion and the lifebar says scorpion instead of shang tsung, for psx and pc sometimes on 2on2 the game random decides 2 characters that you can morph into.

also n64 has few backgrounds more than psx/pc/saturn

in n64 you can do those skipping combos easier, for example ermac lift go to LK, LP even if LK miss you will connect the LP.

n64 - d+hk infinites for lots of characters including sheeva, one throw into corner and you are dead lol, easier noob inf and gc, more anti air time too.

it sucks sleep

Yeah, thats what I thought. You could tell that he was a last minute add-in, especially with those lame Fatalities. But I actually think that Chris Alexander is a better Johnny Cage, in terms of looks. And the fact that he wears the sunglasses all time is cool too.

He looks so different compared to rest of the characters. He seems kind of small or something, but I can't put my finger on it. What is it?
