There's more to it than just what you have explained there. Also, there was a thread like this a few weeks ago set up by someone from another site in effort to prove me wrong. The result was about 15 people picking UMK3, 2 picking MKII, and a few picking MKT/MKD.

I prefer MKII. It's style, and atmosphere were great. I also liked the more detailed gore in the fatalities. It was the height of MKs dark realism.

Anyway, definately MK2 all the way for me. I for one don't see much competition between MK2 and MK3...If you woulda said UMK3, then there would be something to think about...But I would still say MK2. Unmatched atmosphere, and the Pit 2 fatality was the best stage fatality EvEr!

Yes, on this site very recently, thought that was between all games but the only discussion was between MKII and UltimateMK3. There is a huge world of difference between umk3 and mk3 for me, so I will not participate. Good Day

MK3 is a better fighting game than MKII. That is a fact.

A better question for this would be "Which game do you like more?" as it leaves it open to reasons why you like it, which can be different for everyone. But as it stands, in terms of better "game", UMK3. There's no comparison.

Mortal Kombat II. And let me tell you why.....

Mortal Kombat 2 was dark. mysterious. Violent as fuck and had a amazing amount of mystic qualities and was the height of Mortal Kombat. Originality was at its purist here.

When MK3 came along they threw in something that mortal kombat DIDN'T need. Technology. With Robots, Jax's stupid arms, and all those things, MK lost its chinese and japanese mystic and through in American retardedness. Plus, the gore was, as someone said, lazy and cut and paste. True that. And cheesy no doubt.

Yes, MK3, had combos and may be an overall better fighter in terms of gameplay, but idea wise, it sucks and thats what ruined it for me.

All I'm seeing here are elemental and atmospheric comparisons that are not tangible, with some admissions to the gameplay of MKII being terrible.

I don't know if anyone who has posted realizes that MKII was a fake tournament set up by Shao Kahn to distract the combatants while he set up plans to invade earth. To me, Earth fighting back to regain it's right to exist normally, in a post apocalyptic environment, with technologocial advancements or not, is a lot darker, and more serious than MKII. In essence, MKII was a joke, and everything anyone likes about it are pure aesthetics. Again, all of this can be disgarded because there's no way to say that MKII's atmosphere is better than MK3, or UMK3, only what someone likes more personally. Like more =/= better. Better requires finite examples based upon direct comparison. Opinions require no examples. Better =/= opinion. It comes down to, one person might like MKII for the same reason they like MK3, but you can't both like the gameplay for the same reasons because they are different when it comes to that. You can like the gameplay for MKII because it is less advanced, but you would be in the minority of fighting game fans, who prefer more on the fly gameplay options.

The only thing that can be compared, is the gameplay. What MK3 had that MKII didn't, what was fixed, what wasn't, etc. This has completely nothing to do with what you are seeing or listening to. It's like comparing a sequal to a movie. Some people might like the original better merely because it's the original and for no other reason. There are people who always assume the first was the best, but, as we all know when it comes to Oreo Cookies, Double Stuffs are better than the originals... Anyway, preferring originals blindly is not a reason at all except a psychosomatic response to some kind of warped sense of honor. In the case of MK1 to MKII, every single aspect was improved game to game without exception. From MKII to MK3, graphics were not changed, most of the basic game system functions like sounds, blood, etc, were not changed either. The fatality concepts were changed, and made humorous because they had realized fatalities were a joke.

I always was into Mortal Kombat 2 the most... Just remember the buzz that game had when it made it into arcades. The lines to play that game were insane! I think that will always be my favorite. MK3 was awesome too, don't get me wrong and it included some great new features... it just didn't hit me like the second one though. Just one man's oppinion.

I love the feel of MK3 more. It was much darker than MKII. Even the fatalities were better, despite what lots of people say.

They got rid of the stupid ones like Cage's Uppercut Fatality, Kitana's Fan Swipe one, Baraka's Blade Swipe, Jax's Head Clap, Kung Lao's Hat Toss, and Liu Kang's Cartwheel. Most of those all ended the same, or just plain sucked.

The Fatalities in MK3 were much more creative, and in some cases more realistic. Cyrax, Sektor, and Stryker, all have really realistic ones. Other characters like Sub-Zero, Kano, Sheeva, Nightwolf, and Sindel, just have awesome fatalities. And the rest were funny.

I'm not saying MK3 didn't have any lame ones, but they were better than in MKII.

i finally made it to kintaro on mk2..but couldn't beat him. so now i'm playing mk3 on the MAT2 disk for xbox. i like the true multi hit combos and the better AI. plus i want to get umk3 when it comes out for 360
