I must say, although mkI is where it all started, i had an snes so my favourite of the classics would have to be mkII do to the addition of blood, more characters, more moves, and better animation in general. MK3 got too out of hand with the cheese factor...

MK II because it had the best fatalities, one of the best lineups of characters ever in an mk game, and it was the first time the series appeared in blood without the use of a code. Mk2 was nearly a perfect game.

Best place to find games of this type is either
A) Video game specialist that sells used games.
B) The flea market
The stuff you can find at the flea market sometimes is incredible man.. oh...can't forget about
C)E-bay
That always works too

I would say MK2 is my favorite Classic MK game. Like many of you said, it was much improved over the first MK, which was of course also a perfect 10 in my book. I hope MK6 will have the same essence of the first 2 MKs.

Allow me to raise a voice of dissent here, because actually I think that MK2 is overrated. Of course when it came it it blew everything away and it was loads better than the first MK. But I reckon that there are simply too many people here who are nostalgic about MK2 and only think of the MK3-string as the goofy games with fat Stryker, badly animated animalities and palette swaps.
But let's be honest. There are 17 characters in MK2, *eight* of which are palette swaps! If you play MK2 today, it's pretty slow compared to the later installments.
Before some of you lynch me, I'm not saying Mortal Kombat II is a bad game. It rocks! But in my modest opinion, the best one is probably UMK3 on Saturn. Why?
It's incredibly fast and no character is absurdly overpowered. The soundtrack rocked. The gloomy, desperate atmosphere of MK3 was still present and a few returnees from MK2 were there. It doesn't have too many annoying bugs and there was still not much lameness as there was in MKT (which, albeit a great idea, was *not* a good game no matter what you say ).
That's my 2 koins again.
