Ok, this is speculation but it's one that I think is probably going to be correct based on new info... So bear with me. For months now, everybody has asssumed that Li Mei is evil... You've heard it all.
"LIE MAI IS EVIL CUZ SHE WERES TEH ARMOOR OF TEH DRAGON KING!!11!!1"
...Indeed she is wearing armor but it's not the same type of armor worn by the Dragon King's undefeatable army.
"But The_Truth! Who else wears armor?!"
Well, I had long speculated that perhaps she may have become associated in some way with Hotaru, but now I don't think that's possible anymore. There's one very simple reason to why I no longer believe this...
*spoilers*
In Bo Rai Cho's new bio that was just released, Li Mei has been listed as one of his allies.
"That doesn't prove anything!"
True, on it's own that doesn't account for much but read further into his bio. It says that he had taken control of Kitana's Outworld army and though the war against the Tarkatan does not go well he finds inspiration from an unexpected source... Though it leaves that blank I have reason to believe that it will be Li Mei.
"Why?"
What else would be more inspirational to an old man who is leading a losing war than a girl that continues to fight against overwhelming odds in the face of defeat, perhaps even after her village was enslaved, and the villagers probably killed. This brings me to believe that Li Mei's armor and the reason why she's one of Bo Rai Cho's allies is that she is in Bo Rai Cho's army, probably a high ranking officer of some kind. A "war hero" of sorts.
Think about it, it makes sense. I'd bet money that that is why Li Mei has armor and why she's listed as his ally considering they probably had not had any contact with one another prior to Deception.

Joan of Arc? Hm, I suppose that could be a way to interpret it but I don't think Li Mei will be burned alive at the stake haha.
But I seriously think this is probably the reason why she has armor and why she's on Bo Rai Cho's ally list.

I think the unexpected source is Shujinko, Bo' Rai Cho trained him long ago and has probably not seen him in thrity years. When Onaga is revived he probably looses hope but Shujinko tells him the story that we hear in the intro.

I see what you're saying, but more than likely Bo Rai Cho is probably already aware of what had happened as Onaga is already up and running. The fact that Shujinko is in Outworld to correct his error, it may be a confidence booster that he gains a new ally but it's likely to not be enough to inspire him or his army to victory against the Tarkatan.
However, perhaps witnessing Li Mei and everything that has happened to her with loss after loss and with the destruction of everything that she had known she still held onto her values and continued to fight. That would associate more with what Bo Rai Cho is doing, the circumstances are similar, with Bo Rai Cho's army not doing with loss after loss. But seeing someone continue on with complete faith in herself and her cause would inspire him to continue on even in the face of defeat.
...Of course I'm speculating so...

I think you have made some valid points Truth. Although I liked the idea of Li Mei being evil, I didn't like the idea of her soul being put into a DK soldier. If your theory is true, then that would be awesome.

I just think this is probably that missing link we were all looking for to justify Li Mei's armored costume. The theories and everything made sense sort of but there were too many unanswered questions. I feel this theory cleans up a lot more of the story than previous thoughts on this subject.

Or maybe Li Mei was apart of an evil army at first, and she was just pretending, then once she sees Bo Rai Cho, she instead helps him take down the tarkatan and joins forces with Bo Rai Chos army and deceieves the rest of the tarkatan...
So she was always good, but acting evil so she wont get killed

i could see it now in a fmv:
boraichos forces were giving in to the tarkanans overwhelming numbers. the old fart was about to sound the retreat when he looked over at the weakest part in his formation and saw a single soldier there. this soldier was li mei and she was owning the tarkanans (li mei does some kung fu here) and boraicho sees a hidden force in his army. also he is mad at shujinko for beating him while he was a little kid wink

Although I agree that Li Mei isn't evil, I don't think she was Bo Rai Cho's inspiration. I think the best bet would be Ermac, but that's just me.

Ermac could be like... thousands of dead souls banding together to still fight for what they believe in. Bo Rai Cho sees this as inspiration and doesn't give up with his army, because if a thousand dead souls can do it, so can his army. Lol.

Liu Kang, Ermac, Li Mei. They all make the most sense. I think we can pretty safely agree that Li Mei isn't evil

I think the unexpected source is Shujinko, as Bo'Rai'Cho's profile doesn't have him listed anywhere on it. Maybe the old teacher doesn't realize that Shujinko has returned.

I decided to dig up this thread because I don't feel it was overlooked. I agree with what you're saying here completely but I also think it might be Ermac. When you beat MKT with Ermac it said he wanted to rule outworld. Well what better way then to become allies with those who don't want to take over but restore peace. Then when the war is won and you are viewed as a hero, slip into power. They did this in star wars with Palapetine (SP?). He acted as the people's person and he was really the evil mother fucker behind it all. But then again the fact that our Armored lady is in Bo Rai Cho's allies list is hard to make sense without more information.

On topic, that's a good theory. I'd definetly LOVE to see Li Mei PWNING those Tarkatan and maybe one of the higher rank baddies. I'm curious to know what kind of armor she's wearing, though. I used to think that was from when she lost her soul to a mummified soldier, she got resurrected but kept some of the armor.

your idea seems good and it has a good cahnce of being true. I mean Li Mei doesn't seem evil. Maybe she met Bo Rai Cho in mkda and decided to help him in mkd. It all sounds good and quite likely. I like your idea and maybe just maybe you will be right.
