Before you go off on me, and ask me "why are you even here," I'm just as big of a fan as you are (if not bigger). However, I just have to admit, MK is becoming repetitive, and honestly, I'm getting tired of it. the MK developement team has got a heap of work to do, before they can win back thier title as the king of fighters. It's not as easy as a lot of people are thinking. The videogaming world has evolved so incredibly, so fast, since the last time Mortal Kombat was popular, and the fighting game genre has had an impecable evolution. and all though they (the MK dev. team) did a credible amount of revamping (or at least tried)with deadly Alliance, it still was'nt enough to ensure any longgevity. Mortal Kombat is still obscure, and as much as I hate it, after playing games like Virtua Fighter 4 evolution, it kind of upsets me (as it should any fan), when I come back to Mortal Kombat, and it looks so elementary.
And, the thing is that I think that Boon & Co. are underestimating the fighting game genre. This is only my opinion. What do you think?

I usually don't compare VF4:E to MK, simply because it just tops every fighting game known to man. I see where you're at though, but I still have faith that MK:D will at least have tons of replay value. In terms of 3D fighting, only VF4:E and Tekken 4 top Deadly Alliance for me. (I didn't like Soul Calibur II so much)
Most people complained about the little things, like fatalities and special moves. Hopefully as they say, MK:D will be more fluid and faster. The only real problem I had with MK:D was the stiffness and lack of manual combos/motions.

I dunno, man. All I know is that Deadly Alliance rocked the house! Of course it lacked quite a few things. But all crap aside, it was still an incredibly beautiful and strong fighting game.
As a fighting game purist, I'm a huge Virtua Fighter fan as well. However, if all goes well and Boon actually takes an honest look at everything that was wrong with MK:DA and seeks to top it two times over, this just might be the best MK game ever!
Strictly my opinion.
Cheers.

I'm going to be honest and blunt: I don't like Virtua Fighter 4: EVO as much as MK:DA, and probably not as much as MK:D. Here's why:
I'll give credit where credit is due. Virtua Fighter 4: EVO is one of the best fighters ever conceived, and it easily beats out Mortal Kombat in the graphics and sheer replay and in-depth gameplay. But... that's all it is to me. I own it and I love it, but MK has some upper-hands.
Characters in Mortal Kombat are better. Most of the characters in Virtua Fighter are terribly unoriginal and boring, especially when compared to a hell-spawn who shoots a spear out of his hand, a soul-sucking sorcerer, a chick with razor teeth and her sharp-toothed, blade-armed boyfriend, a four-armed half-dragon prince, an immortal thunder god, a blue ninja who turns people into ice sculptures, an Australian crimelord with a laser eye, and a Chinese ninja who just happens to be both an African man, but also a yellow tin man on steroids.
After that brief description, I still find parts of the MK gameplay more compelling, such as Konquest and, of course, Fatalities and special moves. Also, I've never really cared for Virtua Fighter's story (is there one?), especially compared to the pretty epic and expansive world that is MK. White Lotus Society, Lin Kuei, Red Dragon, Black Dragon, Edenia, Outworld, Earthrealm, Special Forces, Vampires, Oni... it's all part of a whole WORLD, while Virtua Fighter remains dead set on its tournaments. It's like Tekken only deeper.
Also, let's face it, MK sounds better. You won't hear any bone-snapping sounds in VF.
With MK:D on the way, online coming in full force, MK chess, Puzzle fighter, new characters, old characters, character evolutions, multiple fatalities, stage fatalities, and in-depth Konquest adventure mode, Virtua Fighter has become obsolete in my book, and this isn't just the ramblings of an MK fan-boy. MK is older, faster, louder, more original, and more brutal.
Fatality.

I agree with you Garlador. Virtua Fighter's gameplay may be a lot deeper but Mortal Kombat is more than just the fighting. It also has great characters, storylines and also, great ambience. MK: Deception looks kick ass!
It may seem very similar to that of MK: DA but there'll be a lot more to it than just that.

VF4 Evo's major strength, ie. depth, is also it's major weakness.
You see, you can never hope to be competitive against other players with any more than 1 or 2 characters.
In MK, you can become very skilled will all characters. Even if you play with random select rules, adding much variety you can expect to perform well, having put in as much time as you did with VF4 Evo.

I never liked virtua fighter...but I never played these new ones...so I can't say if they're bad or good, the only thing that I want to say is that the people in charge for virtua fighter show a lack of intelligence by giving such dumb tiny names to their characters...names with just two syllables like ka-ge, li-on, a-oi, du-ral, jef-fry, ja-cky, sa-ra then we have brad, wolf, pai, lau, shun and gou with just one syllable. The only one that has a larger name is vanessa.... BTW MK OWNS VF ANYDAY

I agree with what all of you are saying. And, don't get me wrong. In no way, on earth, am I emplying that MK does'nt have great characters. I would'nt dare compare MK's characters to any other fighting game. In character design and storydepth, MK wins by a long shot. Other games don't even come close.
This is what is more upsetting about the fighting mechanics. I think that whoever works on producing an MK game are privilaged. They should treat this game like gold. Here, you have one of the greatest fantasy stories ever put to a videogame, with the story depth of greak mythology. However, as much as MK is rich in concept, the fighting meachanics, unfortuantely, don't match. It's way too simple. And the problem, you could say, is simple to fix. Mk just needs MORE STRATEGY. I can't stress it enough.
MK also has

OMG I'm sick of reading VF4 is this blah blah WHO GIVES A FUCK. This is Mk were talking about its not meant to be VF4. MK's fighting system isn't bad it does lack things but who cares it has better characters a great story it would wipe the floor of all fighting games. Also it has fatalities MK is built on its own unique way its not meant to be VF4
. Thats all I hear the games not even out yet Boon said the fighting system has more in deoth moves now. Wait until the games out ok. PERIOD.

MK in 3D is just building.Remember how Tekken was when it first came out?Alot of people didn't care for it.MKDA was a big step from MK4 matter a fact a big step from all the MK games IMO.And MKD will be a even bigger step foward in the right direction.Watch it build.I like MK because it's easy to get into and it has a more advanced side to it.

Yep. Although MKDA needs and has a good fighting system, it's gameplay isn't what makes it better than the other fighters out there.

WTF! Who ever came up with this thred must have a fu
Personally, I hated Virtua Fighter 4. After the second one, it went down hill. Then I never liked Tekken, and I wasn't pleased with Soul Caliber II.
Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, for me, is the king of the fighting genre. There is no better fighting game than that. And in my opnion, Deception will only top Deadly Alliance.

I used to be a big fan of Virtua Fighter along with Mortal Kombat. The thing that draws me to Mortal Kombat is the blood, the dark tone, the secrets, the characters, the story, the projectiles, and of course the finisher moves.
I could see how you feel about Mortal Kombat being obsolete in terms of graphics and game play. I'm here for the fun, and from watching all the stages seen so far I am glued to this site. I don't care about an in depth fighting system, as long as i'm having fun with other people I would stick around. Mortal Kombat now makes you use your enviorment to determine the outcome of a battle. I love the fact that you could grab a sword out of the ground and use it to defend yourself. I also love the fact that you could knock your opponent into objects that determine the outcome of the match. Button smashing is no longer what determines the fight, it is your mind and the way you deal with your opponent.
I hope you view Mortal Kombat in a different way before I find out your character's on the internet and whip your ass in October! Just wait untill the game is released and then compare the two games together to see which one is better.

The new MKs are way better than the old ones IMO.
Still The strongest parts of MK are the Look, the story, the character designs, the extra games and the gore.
The game play part of it, the most important part of a fighting game is no where near as strong as it needs to be, it's fun and all, but it's like a news paper compared to the Internet like someone else stated.
Both are good, but one is waaaaaaaaaay better.
Hopefully MK will reach this level soon, I would hope for a big change for MK7, but knowing the MK team, I'm not expecting anything really drastic in that department.
The fight engine can be very deep, but easy to get in to, and fun at the same time.
Tekken Tag, Tekken 4 and SC2 are games I would put in that category.
I hope it happens, then MK could be on top again.
