no its not possible
people say that theve been in for toolong.
But really think about it, every fighting game has to have the long standing characters.
MK has Sub Scorp and Raiden
SF has Ryu, Ken, and Guile
so why such a fuss?
they are good characters, leave them alone

!.)--MK is only about fatalities and minigame, anyway. Aside from fighting, anyway, lol.
2.) Scorpion and Sub-Zero are not the main characters in the story, anyway. Liu Kang's the main character, and MK proved that it could survive without him.
They may be the most popular, but MK could and would survive without them. Will we ever see them gone? I doubt it, but that wasn't the question.
Come on people, most of you are so addicted to MK that you're going to buy the game no matter who they put in it. (Note the constant complaining about the character choices in MK: DA, yet most of you still purchased it, anyway.) That's not meant as an insult, it's meant to prove my point--the games would do just fine without them. How many times can one hear, "get over here!" without losing intrest? I lost interst in Scorpion a long, LONG time ago.
Example:
Scorpion: REVENGE! I will kill you, Sub-Zero!!!!!!
Quan Chi: Actually, I killed you family, foo. Whatcha gonna do?
Scorpion pauses. Looks at Sub-Zero, then back at Quan Chi.
Scorpion: REVENGE!!!!!! I will kill you Quan Chi!!!!!
Lame no matter how you look at it. Sub-Zero's still ok, though. But only ok. His story's still pretty cool, but I think it was a huge mistake to make him Lin Kuei Grandmaster--it makes him more boring.

Beg to differ! Sub and scorp weren't meant to be the mainc haracters, but playing MK1 when it came out the best two characters were sub and scorp! Liu kang had a flying kick and fireball, but Sub zero can freeze all that stuff and scorpion could harpoon you.
i swear when i was playing MK1 it had the little counter underneath for how many VS matches you played in a row, ym brother and i played it 80 times all night, jsut sub vs scorp, with very close scores.
You can't take them out of MK, mostly, what's the point? taking them out isn't going to revive them from being stale, even if you do think they're stale AND if you DO think they are stale, play as someone else! Itmight suprise you but i'm fairly ertain that if they took sub and scorp out fo the next game they won't be replaced, it's not like the two characters are filling a slot that some other new character could be filling. All you'd have is a void.
personally i love the endless battles, every single MK game the Sub vs Scorp fights have been classics, and to me, that IS the story behind the two characters. But as a heads up to the Scorpion storyline, i like his rebel motives, teh fact that he's neutral and has got not ties to either good or evil. he's just in it for himself.
Sub zero brings ice and freezing moves to the game, if he didn't who would? AAnd if they brought in someone else who did no one would like them because, frankly they liked sub. Same goes for Scorpion, he has unique stuff that set him apart from others, without him do you replace him with something new? Or similar? Either way sounds like it sucks. May aswell just have two additional characters aswell as them both!
Also, my favourite characters are nightwolf and baraka. Scorpion i play for nostalgia and because i feel i owe him one. :D

I guess people are just jealous their favorite characters aren't always in and Sub Zero and Scorpion will always remain in Mk.

Is that so? Well, maybe you need to take a look at her special moves list more carefully, because the only special move of hers that Sub-Zero had sometime ago was the Slide. Yes, Sub-Zero also had the Ground Freeze, but the way Frost's Ground Freeze works is her own unique move and works differently from Sub-Zero's. Frost didn't have the Ice Rain or the Ice Clone or any of Sub-Zero's other moves, so in other words, your statement was inaccurate. Btw, Frost can never replace Sub-Zero. I like Frost, but she lacks the strength and discipline to be Grandmaster.
Anyway, no, Scorpion and Sub-Zero can NEVER be replaced. Scorpion's storyline has never been that strong, but from the way his MK: D bio is, his storyline looks like it'll be something more than it has been in the past.
As for Sub-Zero, he keeps evolving and if you look really carefully, he's a very essential character to the MK storyline. Most of you are too damn blind to see it. I really don't see how he's getting stale. To me, he's getting better and better.
Like some here have said, as long as Ed Boon is making MK games, Scorpion and Sub-Zero will always be in them.

I agree with the idea that Sub-Zero and Scorpion should have a rest for one game. See how things look without them around.
Sub-Zero can be easily replaced by Frost. I still don't get why people dislike her... just because they say she's a Sub-Zero clone. I think it's the perfect opportunity to have Sub-Zero removed for a game.
As for Scorpion... that's another story. I don't think he can be replaced. That doesn't mean, however, that they shouldn't try a Mortal Kombat without him. I think it really would be refreshing to have both Sub-Zero and Scorpion out of the next game.
And while we're on the subject of change... I think it would be really nice if the next Mortal Kombat would be centered on the Realm of Edenia. I don't think there has ever been a single Edenian Arena in a Mortal Kombat game so far. Edenia has a big part in the story, and it would be nice to see them handle their own problems once in a while without having warriors from Earth go and help them. So in the next game, maybe the only 'old' characters that should be returning would be the Edenians.(itana, Sindel, Jade, ... Rain, etc.) Now that would be a refreshing sequel... or maybe make it a prequel where we get to witness how Edenia was conquered by Outworld in the first place... just an idea.

No! No mention of Frost coming back ever again! I'll take Bo Rai Cho, Nitara or any other crappy character you can think of just not Frost.

I'm glad to see that a few of you actually agree.
I don't think that Sub-Zero of Scorpion will ever disappear entirely, just temporarily. Although, like I mentioned before, the characters could actually be better in Deception. We'll have to wait and play before we all truly judge.
--
On another note.. Replacing Sub-Zero with Frost really wouldn't solve all that much.. They're practically the same character, it would defeat having any new or fresh feeling in the game. If you have to have one or the other, Sub Zero would remain.

Ugh... that wasn't meant to be taken literally. *rolls eyes* What I was trying to say was that they both have freeze attacks. In other words... my statement wasn't inaccurate, I just wasn't being a Mortal Kombat uber-freak when I wrote it. I mean, I like Mortal Kombat, but who cares that Frost uses a different kind of freeze attack? In the end, the opponents are still frozen.
And like I said, I like Sub-Zero... but he's getting old. Time for some fresh blood.

Yeah everybody hates them, that is why you have Sub in your avvy -_-;;
Anyways,... I personally just hate Sub and Scorp. I'd be so happy to see them gone. The only fear I have though is that without them, MK won't sell and it may die as a franchise.
PS Sub and Scorp are well loved, but some people disagree. There is not one thing in the world that everyone agrees about.

Replacing Sub Zero and Scorpion is something that the series has needed for quite a while..
It's a long fought debate between MK Fans. I've seen many threads spanning all of the discussion boards on this website about this matter. It all boils down to your answer on a specific question:
Do you believe, among all the other fighters, that Sub Zero and Scorpion have gotten stale?
Queve has started many discussions about stale characters and always manages to mention the two ninjas. I seriously have to agree with him when he says that they should sit out for a game or two.. To be replaced entirely, I'm not sure.
It looks like Sub-Zero is getting a huge makeover (in both appearance and story) with Deception. Scorpion, on the other hand, seems to be the same yellow ninja of old. Regardless, they need to sit out or need to be taken back to the drawing board until they come out with refreshing qualities.
(Keep in mind, I have not played Deception and this could all very well be different. The chracters could be unique and the ninjas could have a new place in players' hearts.)
No matter, the MK Team looks to be pushing the new/upgraded characters. If this holds true, Ermac, Hotaru, etc could very well be at the top of the lineup for future games.. Replacing our ninajs, if only temporarily.

I completely agree with your post, and Im glad to know my “controversial” threads are still remembered, lol. smile
Scorpion and Sub-Zero can NEVER be replaced, never .
But they CAN miss a game or 2, and return improved and revamp, looking better then ever.
Even though Sub-Zero is actually evolving, I think he needs to take a rest, and as for Scorpion .so far (not counting MKD), his story has been stale, typical, and repetitive, he seriously needs a rest.
MK doesnt evolve around this 2 characters alone, so the game can easily survive without them.

Yes, of course.
The game survived without Scorpion in MK3 (Ultimate MK3 aside) and it can survive again..
I'm just thinking that the characters should take new ground and the series should expand into something more. It needs to retain that classic "Kombat Feel" but that doesn't mean that we have to stick to the same characters.
Scorpion and Sub Zero were part of the foundation of Mortal Kombat.. And they will remain so, but couldn't they be taken to new levels if they're given time to rest and change?
It wouldn't hurt sales of the game as much as people would think, it would still be an excellent fighter.. And they would reappear in a game or two with fresh stories/looks/playability.
As long as we're given excellent characters to compensate, we can deal with it.

There are three characters that can't be replaced.
1 Scorpion
2 Sub-Zero
3 Raiden
Maybe you can leave one of them out for one game, but MK isn't MK anymore without all three of them.
I'm an Oldschool Mk fan,and i personally would see those characters back in every upcomming MK game. And if they continue to add new characters in every new MK, there is always place for those three classic characters. And if you don't like them, simply don't play with them.

They should not be completly replaced in future games. It is better to make them unlockables than not to have them at all. There are still fans out there that are die-hard Sub-Zero and Scorpion fans. I never use them since i think that Sub-Zero is cheap and Scorpion just isn't that good, but I would be upset if they were out of the game. It just wouldn't be a Mortal Kombat without them.
MK3 seemed very strange when Sub-Zero had an alternate costume without a Scorpion or Raiden. Taking away these main characters made the game different, and I do not think it was for the better. I liked MKII better because it only took out lesser characters(Sonya and Kano).
