I'm a total die hard fan of both series, but I think that DOAU might be better than MKD. I was highly impressed with DOA3, but with MKDA I was dissapointed. Im still buying both games, but I feel DOAU might be better in the fighting engine part.

DOA no contest in terms of the actual fighting. I'll be getting both games as I'm a die hard fan of both but DOA will be the better playing fighting game.

With so much dissapointment from MK:DA, who came blame anyone for thinking that MK:D will be a bust? But dont worry. If Boon and the guys at Midway play their cards right....MK:D will be the biggest thing since...super bowl XXX.

Im looking foward to MKD more because it is a totally new game. Doa ultimate is the first and improved second one. but in terms of gameplay and better online competition, im sorry but DOA will easily beat mortal kombat in that. Doa has one of the best, fastest, and most fun fighting engines i have ever played, and mkda was only so so and was seriously flawed. but i am interested to see what mkd is going to pull off and i am sure ill have fun with it because of the extras and characters. i know mkd will not have a major change in fighting, but i really hope its balanced so online will be fair.

Well, I can't really say which will have the better gameplay. I instinctly want to say DOA, however, playing DOA3 got really old, fast. Matches seemed like just one big counter fest with a combo stuck inbetween every 3 or 4 reversals.
I hate Tekken. Little has changed at all from Tekken 2. Tekken Tag was cool, but then they dropped that and went back to 1v1. Why? I have no clue. It just seems like every game is the same ol' same ol', it just looks prettier. I would go so far to say that Tekken is the least changed fighter in the history of fighters.
With that aside, MK:D will no doubt sell more than DOA:U. Partially because it will be on 2 systems. But, I will go out on a limb and say that Xbox sales vs Xbox sales, I still think MK:D will sell more. What will be better gameplay wise? I can't really say. Boon and Co. have said that they have revamped the engine for MK:D, but, we haven't seen too much of that yet in what video's have been released. So untill I see more I can't say for sure.

In general MKD will diffinately sell more, but DOA isn't without it's fans.
Tekken is the least changed over the years but that's no problem, they've made big improvements with the characters, and from what has been said so far about Tekken 5 it will play more like TTT than 4 so I'm looking forward to a nice juggle friendly system.
I'm hoping MKD does something with it's juggling, so you can do a full 4 hit combo before the opponent falls down.
Juggling is diffinately something that I don't like about DOA, and reversals are too easy to pull off for such a big amount of damage.
I like parries more, more satisfaction when you pull them off, I'd love if these were MKD, instead of those reversals, the current one's stop fights dead, and the fight completely loses its fluidity.

Well, according to the E3 2004 live coverage interveiw with Mortal Kombat..they said that MK:D will have faster gameplay..not slowish, easy combo systems. They also said that once a special move is blocked, players have a better shot at moving in for a counter. This will add a bit of freshness to the already gruesome fighting system MK:DA has. DoA:U will have a fighting system..but not one as deep as MK:D. Would you rather have very nice graphics and an "ok" depth to the fighters and their backgrounds..or would you rather have "ok" graphics with a dark and mysterious fighting experience. MK takes my vote..and I am a DoA fan, but a bigger MK fan.

Haven't played MKD, so it would be impossible for me to chose between the two. But since I enjoy the MK characters, storyline, and world over DOA anyday, I guess it would end up being MKD. I dunno, I just like MK way more than I do DOA.

Who do you think will be better online? I know millions of people who love Mortal Kombat all over the world...DoA:U does not have too many fans...And get this..out of 100% of gamers out there...47% of them play via online.
I think MK:D will since DOAU is just upgraded versions of DOA 1 and 2. So it's mainly for those who missed out on those 2 or the ones who want online play.
MKD is for anyone imo. Plus MK has a bigger user base with it being very old and popular while DOA is a newer series which is still building their user base up.
I will be buying MKD Collector's Edition for sure, but will not buy DOAU. I'll wait for DOA4 to come out since I want a new DOA game to be online since DOA3 rocked.

Or..I magine if DoA had fatalities. Brad Wong wins. Fatality. I love the sound of that. But I guess theres no reason in hopeing that it will happen...cause it wont. However..I feel Rockstar games are lurking in MK's footsteps. With Manhunt and all...

Umm... I wrote DOA3 was deep and I iterated further on why above... I think DOAU will be deeper than MKD... now I'm talking about the fighting system, storyline, min-games, blood, and fatalities don't enter into this category... and in MKDA 80% of the moves are useless... while in DOA3 everymove works in some situation as an attack, pop up, or set up... I hope MKD will be as deep as DOA3 without the easy reversals... thats my only beef about the DOA3 system MKDA I have many more problems with... besides most of the moves are useless... usually only one combo is affective to be able to be used... maybe two if your lucky and if you are extremely lucky you have a sidestep attack... this would be Scorpion of course... I don't particularly care about DOAU's graphics being better... I hope being faster, easier combos, combo breakers, death traps(ring outs add a dimension of depth and gives some people a new strategy), multi-tiered envirments will be enough to make MKD worthy of getting good at... but unless they work at making all the moves in your movelist useful... then DOAU will have no problem being deeper fighting engine-wise than MKD... later

good point, majin sung. I too, have concern, as to how they are going to make a torrent of hidden characters..make a konquest mode that is supposed to be as big as a game in its entirety, a Mortal kombat chess and tetris game, add bump-mapping, add stage and additional fatalities, and abouve all, make the characters faster, and the fighting engine more deeper. Can they do this in the small amount of time they were givin? There is only three more months...time will tell...

I think thats the point, they should of focused on making the engine deeper instead of the mini-games and konquest, secret characters, etc, in the first place so the fighting experience would be better compared to the 'outside the fighting' experience... hopefully the system will have more useful moves... like you said time will tell...

Mortal Kombat only has maybe three to four modes online, but DOAU ii fully loaded with online capabilites, all eight modes, plus rumoured new ones will be online.HUH, thinking about it, both games excell in what the other one lacks. So you'd have to buy both of them to get a real experience. Since everything that one game has over the other is off set by what the other game has over it.
Bluh, MKD hands down, at least for me. I've never been a fan of DOA's fighting system - the whole one-button-counter thing really turns me off. I'll admit the game looks nice, and it is fun, but I can't connect with the characters the same way I do with MK's.
Mind you, DOA has sex appeal, which MK really lacks. Mmm, Hitomi...>_>

It's surprising how many people that say they don't like DOA's counter system are the same ones who are the first to bitch about how hard it is to counter in another game.
Like the counter system in DOA, if you ever finished practice mode in DOA3, you will see how deep it is. One button, maybe two and any direction the joypad is in, or if the opponets, kneeling, or in mid air, or behind you, plus the touch sensitive controls all have a different outcome in how the counter will be preformed.

Not to mention the advanced counters that characters like Lei-Fang and Bayman have.
I'll buy that. Lei-Fang's and Bayman's are OK. But direction of counter does not matter to me. I smply hate the fact that you basically press one button, and remove about a quarter of a opponent's life bar. You should work for your counter.

Ill buy both since im a fan of both series but my favourite between the two is DOA
It has better graphics , i love the fighting styles and the movement is really smooth
MKDA really dissappointed me with its jerky movments and the fat that each character had one or two useful combos and the rest i never used since one mistake would get you hit.
also the graphics were dissappointing as well but from what ive seen of MKD screens it looks alot better but still not on par with DOA at all
