AH! thank you, that's what's bothering me about it. It's just too....civilized. It lacks the animalistic nature that the Baraka charactar has always reveled in.

Especially in MKII, I think they really got across the notion of the "mutants" as second-class grunts in Outworld.
I can't say I'm especially fond of any of the chestplate designs, but I guess I don't mind the rationale that the Tarkata cobbles together their stuff from scavenging (from their kill).

I like it, but, I must say the whole samurai look is.....awkward on Baraka to say the least. He looks great, but the old chest plate with the integrated bones from deception would have been a better fit.

While I'm inclined to agree with it's contrivance; I do feel a character like Baraka at least harkens back to the days where someone industrious might attach some sort of history and logic to the design.
It's certainly less offensive than backtracking the quality invested in designs some characters have had in the recent games.
Raiden should always have a godly stature about his dress, and Scorpion a personalized ninja-inspired design, but Baraka really might pick up shoulder pads he's found on some yahoo's corpse.
If there's a complaint I have, it's that his bitsy design falls short of originality because so many other characters have failed to live up to their individuality.
At least with a character like Baraka it's easier to romanticize in the same way I'm sure many did the early MKs. I'd like to think nostalgia is less about what actually existed, and more about the imagination of technologically restricted definition in early games. The chance to imagine a strange unknown warrior returning to reclaim his armor from Baraka the kind of thing that feuelled early excitement, rather than well fleshed out characters.

Fugly monsters do nothing for me. But for a mutant with razor sharp teeth, I guess he looks just about as good as he's ever going too lol. *shrugs* I have no complaint really. Never been a fan of his so I have nothing to critique.

I like how Baraka looks. I mean, I wish he'd have a variant of his old school outfit, with the white vest, but at least his face doesn't look all cartoony like in MKD/MKSM.

It's a bit of a stretch, but if you're right, massive fucking props to the MK team for making Raiden an even more obvious reference to Big Trouble in Little China.
JackBurton is gonna have a blast with this one. =)
