I think their the most logical choice and have already shown interest in the MK license. This would actually be great for both the future of the MK games and the future of any new MK movie. The only downside I could see is that we probably would get a MK vs DCU2 faster then just a MK game if the WB bought the I.P from Midway.

The upside of course is that no one would have to worry about which movie studio would be behind any new MK movies cause more then likely it would stay with the WB.

So lets say Midway was to go under tomorrow,I would feel pretty comfortable with Warner Bros having the license to the games and movies of any future MK product.

What do you guys think?

Warner Bros. doesn't own a video game studio.

I'd say, as long as MK can do their thing right, anyone can get it, as long as we have the Ed Honcho in charge

Well Warner do publish video-games. And high-profile ones too. Tomb Raider Underworld was co-published by Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, so Warner becoming involved with MK could be interesting.

I'd definitely raise an eyebrow and become extremely skeptical. Even if Ed does continue to make the game if/when Midway tanks, will Warner Brothers allow the level of violence we're used to seeing in an MK game?

Or do they not play a part in these types of decisions?

I think Capcom should buy it up. Street Fighter IV looks awesome.

This occurred to me, and as someone probably as interested in the IP as I am the games, I'd probably like to see what any company would do in other media. If WB meant absorbing MK into DC and playing around with comics and film, it could be a great time for fans of story. The games, probably not so much... I don't know what WB's licensing history is like, but the DC games are rarely anything worth playing. The times do however appear to be changing, in that respect (re: Arkham Asylum).

I'd wait a bit. I might not like it, but I'd pray for the best.

I would prefer if Arc System Works bought MK. That way, we could have a true kickass MK. Maybe add back respect. But most importantly, Guilty Gear. Kick ass music comes there.

WB I would only hope fixes MK.

I have to say 50/50 but why on thought?

Cause I respect Ed Boon and his continuation on MK even after John Tobias left midway (1999) but they both were the creators in the beginning (check wiki). Actually unsure if or why John Tobias came back for MK vs DC (sincere respects). How would it be like a company WB were to buy the franchise and create a new trainee mk production team?

In respect and honour like example of blaming Anderson for directing the MK Movies I think WB would do a good job. Would love to see WB buy on condition of keeping Ed Boon.

Wouldn't make a difference to me who buys it, as long as SOMEONE buys it. I'm sure either way Boon will still take charge and it will be the same old MK games we've had in the past decade.

You know what? This just occured to me. That's actually a very good possibility. Should Midway go out of business (like it seems they might), Warner Bros., or even DC Comic themselves, might buy the rights to MK. They're on good terms. Maybe DC will start a whole line of MK comics, new cartoons, movies, things like that.
MK could become a comic book franchise. I wouldn't mind it.

I'd be happy honestly. I've more or less lost a great deal of faith in Midway as a publisher and as a responsible owner of such a classic franchise.

I'd like this, cos it would either mean:

a) Mk would become slightly better than the sewer-hole it is now

b) it would get fucked up so bad I'd never have to waste another ounce of my energy caring for it.

If Warner Bros. bought MK, that would be the end of Fatalities.

I don't think that would be a good idea, mainly because I don't think Warner Bros. would view the Mortal Kombat franchise as a video game anymore, but rather a title that should be spread across all different medias. This is not a bad thing per say, but as a gamer I do think this would detract from the quality of Mortal Kombat being a decent game intended for the gaming audience.

In my opinion I think it would be fitting if Mortal Kombat would get picked up by Epic Games, who are the same developers of titles such as Unreal Tournament and Gears of War. It makes sense seeing how Ed Boon wanted the next MK game to head in that direction.

I think the developers at Epic Games would take special care of the Mortal Kombat franchise, and seeing what they can do with gore in games like Gears of War and Unreal, there would be no worries on my end with that.

I honestly don't picture anything other than a large, non-Japanese company buying MK, like EA, Ubisoft, or Activision.
