But then Fox would some how claim ownership of MK.

This brings up the possibility of Scorpion being a recurring character in Family Guy

I honestly don't picture anything other than a large, non-Japanese company buying MK, like EA, Ubisoft, or Activision.

I agree.

Mortal Kombat is the America's first multi-player fighting game, they're not going to give it up to a foreign studio. Also, Warner Bros. is not a gaming company, so they can't buy out a gaming franchise.

I think Electronic Arts will be the ones to carry on MK. I wouldn't mind either, they've done a pretty good job with the Def Jam series.

If MK wants to go back to it's roots and make a dark violent game, why not go with Rockstar or Rockstar North? I mean Rockstar made Manhunt, that was dark and violent, so much so that it nearly got an AO rating...

A few months ago, I would automatically say "Hell no!", but this game has taught me to not jump to conclusions and give things a chance. So I say maybe.

At least then the fatalities would be more violent. at shingo I remember Warriors, Manhunt, and Bully having firearms. And the Midnight Club series is just shallow.

Bully had firearms? Also, we're not talking personal preference...we're talking versatility in game genres...

And I guess the fact that Jax, Deathstroke, Joker, and Lex Luthor have firearms makes MK/DC is a shooter as well...

Bully had a spud launcher. And why are you being so technical? That's like saying if WarioWare had a racing minigame that makes the whole game a racing game.

You're the one calling Manhunt, The Warriors, and Bully shooters, as well as calling a spud launcher a "firearm".

I'm just getting on the same level with you.

Topic Title : How would you feel if *Capcom* bought MK?

*FIXED*

Street Fighter IV looks bad ass and I think Capcom would give MK the true meaning of returning to its roots :) If MK VS DC didn't even came up and was MK8 I'm sure it would been loved more than this trash of an idea . The only thing that kept MK VS DC up is it's gameplay which I think is good . But I really think it's time for Mortal Kombat to use 2D.5 fighting mechanics like how SFIV is doing :)

If Warner Bros bought MK , I will no longer be here and will pleasurably join sides with Capcom and its lovable Street Fighter . I could already sense the lost reputation Mortal Kombat would get... and how Capcom fans like SRK will be like below :) .

Don't be hasty. Not until I see those *Mortal Kombat* fighters pummeled to dust( !!!! ) , which should be any moment now :) ...

YESH !!!! YESH !!!!

Mortal Kombat being bought from a Japanese company is the worst thing that could happen to the series. Japan has a strict violence code in video games. It's like the no sex code in video games in America. That would mean that Mortal Kombat violence would stay to what it is in MK vs DC.

That code only applies to local distribution in Japan.

Berserk for Dreamcast, as an example, actually has much more violence/gore in the US version than its Japanese counterpart, and it's a game that originated in Japan.

No. You said If a Japanese company bought the rights to MK, the series would only ever be a violent as MK Vs DC was.

What the other chap did was give an example of is when an America version of a game became more violent than its Japanese version.

Another example is No More Heroes on the Wii.

Basically: Japanese Developer =/= Less Violent.

As for my view on what if Warner Bros bought MK: Is there anything lower than indifference? Seriously. If Ed Boon wasn't involved then it becomes interesting.

Actually, MK vs DCU is a good example.

The game was developed in the USA, but is actually toned down from its UK counterpart, which has uncensored fatalities for The Joker and Deathstroke.

If MK were developed in Japan, and had to have toned down violence to conform to the laws in Japan, there's really no reason why it can't have added gore for versions in the US.

I would feel pity if that happened. MK wouldn't be MK. As it was said, Warner Bros is not a gaming industry.
it will suck. I'd hope for capcom(so MK vs. SF would be reality), EA(cuz its large, american, and alot of good game came from there) or Namco(judge from tekken and soul calibur, you'll see) to buy it, so it would rise gloriously in fighting game franchise again, I personally don't care if this is by American, Japanese, or european, just make sure the next MK is good.

WB is american so I'd be all for it, I'm sure WB could keep MK's dark image where a japanese company would kill MK....I'd rather honestly see MK die american and at around 9, 10 games or so then be bought by foreign power and turned into "anime MK".....
