Mortal Kombat: Deception seems much too cartoonish. Let's all hope that MK7 brings 3D Digitized Real-Life Actors!

Not computer-generated! REAL, as in, I'm watching the news, and these two guys got angry with each other, and started fighting, and it looked like Mortal Kombat!
You know what made the blood and fatalities so much better? It seemed like an actual human being was being hurt or slaughtered right before our very eyes. Now, while this is violent, hey, it's Mortal Kombat! It's what we want!
I think that it is time that the fans speak up! We want all future MK games to have digitized real life actors in 3D!
Mortal Kombat would really up the ante if they could pull this off!
DummyDoubter: Hey, Smooth, you know that's way too expensive for Midway. If you want that in a game, go make your own game! Plus, we all know you made this thread just to show off your new 1337 Old Reece from GTA:SA avatar and signature!
Smooth's response:
First of all, I'm sick of people always limiting Midway and thinking that they can't do something because they don't have enough money. You don't know the exact details of Midway's finances, so, don't worry about it. That's their problem, not yours. As MK fans, we need to critique Mortal Kombat and give the MK developers feedback regardless of their profit!
As far as making my own game goes, you don't see Ebert and Roeper going to make their own movies when they don't like certain ones. There's something called improvement that usually can always be achieved.
Sure, I'm happy about the new av and sig, but, don't forget how awesome it would be if Midway started using 3D Digitized Real-Life Actors as MK characters in all MK games.
And don't even get me started about real-life movie clips that would be the character endings (when you beat the game)!!

I dont want ppl to look really real , if that makes sense. Mortal Kombat is a game where u destroy people, and use techniques no normal anything would have. Also, Darrius and Dariou look real.

I wish they'd look a bit more like the characters of VF and soulcalibur, not so much in design but in the overall look of them. The MKD characters look kinda small and not extremely good looking, but of course it could all look MUCH better with actually gameplay instead of the vids and pics we've seen, so I'm still excited that they'll look fine.

lmao, he is talking about graphics!
But yeah, I would like more realistic graphics instead of cartoonish. At least, in MKD they don't look as cartoonish as it was in MKDA. Just a little less.

Real people being slaughtered? Is this what we want in an escapist recreation? Not me!
I love the way the characters look...i think they are getting to look alot more like Soul Calibur/ Dead or Alive, which is excellent. Particularly intricate characters such as Mileena, Ashrah, Tanya, Hotaru, Jade and Dairou.
I am seriously getting a little annoyed with the MKD baiting when it hasn't even been released or given a chance yet. You'll be one of the ones loving the game in the first 6 months of release, i promise you that!

When I say real, I don't mean computer-generated. Computers will never be able to generate the way a human looks 100%. Let's take it back to real-school MKs! MK1, MKII, MK3, UMK, and MKT. What was great about these MKs? The characters were REAL! Real, as in Midway used and captured actors into the game.
Let's all hope that MK7 has 3D REAL actors! If Midway can pull this off, they've really upped the bar!

If they pull that off then they are technically more advanced than anything we have seen in hollywood or any other computer game. Can we be a little more realistic here? I think the graphics look great, and i can't wait to get the game.

Personally I like the Motion Capture better. FOr me it seems to make the game just plain better.

IMO, realism as far as graphics go, DOA and Tekken take the cake. But even those have cartoonish feels almost all the time. Technology isn't at the point where characters look real like the sprites did in the 2D world. How simplistic it really was, made it that much more unreal to me. Every model had "high punches" in the same manner as well as all the other movements, besides their specials.
If you want real graphics, take a look at games like Half Life 2 and such on a high end video card. That's where the future of games will be on PS3 etc. MK7 will have amazing graphics, no doubt.

I have no problem with the backgrounds! It is the characters that must be digitized 3D real-life actors!
I'm just talking about the MK characters here! I'm not talking about console graphics! I'm talking about how much better MK is with real-life characters!
And since it is the future, it is time for real-life 3D characters!
FUCK YOU, bag_girl_love! You're a FUCKING MK fangirl!

LMAO genius
I'd like a next-gen version of what MK1 was like, it would be very nice to see a bit of classicness in recent MK's.
But as with all ideas that would change MK even just a bit there are the people who will moan, for what it's worth it's a much better thread than the tons of threads going on about Noob-Smoke and Intro and a good idea as well.

What are you talking about?!
I'm not moaning, I'm saying it isn't possible yet.
It'd be lovely to have that 3D fighters thing, but it isn't yet possible! When it is, it'll be great, but show me an existing example of the technology you are talking about?!!
Why do you have to be so rude and pathetic?
And fangirl?! You know nothing about me and have proved it, so don't even start!

I agree that mk isnt the same like it use to be.It definitely needs actors back thats the great thing about mk at that time it was the only fighting game with real people in it.I dont think it should of ever gone 3d it looks to much like the other fighting games its a boring look after awhile mk needs to go back to its roots it would be unique again if they brought back actors.

@bad_girl_love: Whoa, you are naive!! The 3D capture technology has been used many times in movies and TV, already. Have you seen the Matrix? It's used quite a lot in there. The part when Trinity rises up to kick those agents and the action pauses and spins around her before she kicks the first one in the face is an example of such technology. I'm talking about the first Matrix here. And that was years ago!

Thats a film, not a game where you can control what happens.
They are very different things to make...but when they can be used together to make a unique game, then great.

MKD looks like it will be a great game. But there is always room for improvement.
It is possible to make photo-realistic actors, using high resolution full body 3d cyberscans of the actors which are then texture-mapped with high resolution image maps made from high resolution photographs as while a bump maps, tranparency maps and so on.These 3d models are then rendered on the fly (in realtime) using lighting techniques such as radiosity with HDRI lighting image maps, while been animated by tweaked motion capture data.PROBLEM IS this requires alot of processing power.I don't think any current pc grahics card can render live radiosity with HDRI images etc.
The above is used in films and pop music vids-Keanu Reeves and Britney Spears are two obvious ones.
The method used on the 2d MK games only works for those games(shooting frames of a sequence). In 3d you photograph as static posed body in one position then you map onto a wireframe. In 3d by having high resolution image maps you are aquiring the same information as capturing one frame of movement in each position.
The only other alternative is to use holographics,as used by Sega on their two true holographic arcade games ,a wrestling game and time travel game. That used no 3d models just holograpghy and did look like real actors (because they were). This was back in the 80's shame they didn't keep advancing that technology.

It can be done in a game, and will be done in games!
It was done in MK1, MKII, MK3, UMK3, and MKT! The real-life actors were captured digitally. It can be done with 3D captures, as well.

I thought the FIFA games used 3D digitized players? I've seen "the making of" them and they did it with Ryan Giggs, Roberto Carlos and *insert 3rd person who I can't remember*

I hope your right, i really do. I want this to happen. I'm a professional in a trade where this would be excellent for me to use, it is just that technology is fickle. I hope they persue this idea, and i hope it'll work out to be as good as we want it to be.

Considering that you're a fucking dumb-ass and don't know schitt about Midway's dealings, I'm almost certain that WE WILL see this technology!

Of course it will happen with Midway.Contracts will be water-tight for all future actors being digitised. There are no legal issues!

Ok, you just jumped to the top of my shit-list. Congratulations. You should really think before you speak.
