Hmmm, I see what you mean with that. You could be right actually, I still like her as an evil character better, perhaps if tehy coudl work her story from that angle without making it a cliché or "taking the weight away" like you stated, it could work. But yes, I understand your view and I like it.

I was always very precautious with Sareena as character wise we do not have much to work with. And there is Sub-Zero.

One of the main reasons I urge the dropping of the Sub-Zero vs. Noob Saibot (+Scorpion, Sareena) main showdown plots is that it would directly lead down the predictable path.

And Sub-Zero already has other aspiring problems to get with: Hotaru, Mavados Red Dragon, Frosts betrayal, ...

As episodic as they may seem, it would be a asd day to see them loose all value because the great confrontation goes down the predictable road. So in an essence, this would lead to not only lessening the worth of Subs, but other characters as well. Hotaru, persay I can picture him as Subs next rivalry. Mavado? Sektor? All too well.

And there is the issue of allegiance. And what if Sareena is completely different from what we have seen so far? Like in my fanfic, Sareena has played on her own accord and whim while serving a lurking employer,
sewing discontent among Quan Chi, the Lin Kuei, her sisters, Shinnok. ...

she definately does have potenential. Since this is the only good MK game she's been in, I think she should survive. But they'll probably kill her off.

All that would be is a rehash of Kitana and Mileena's story but with demons from the Netherrealm instead. Besides, the "sisters" mentioned in Ashrah's bio are the other assassins she worked with, they're not sisters biologically.

In Sareena's case her "sisters" are Kia and Jataaka.



She's got that costume and the MKTE one as her alt...



Have you already forgotten about the MKO fan interview? If so, this is what Ed Boon had to say about that movie:

"When we decided the format that we wanted to have for this opening movie, we really wanted to have it like the big Lord of the Rings, two big groups fighting, but we also wanted to include every character. So every character is represented in that thing. So at some point we had to decide, either good or evil for these characters. We didn't want to have a group of like, you know, three guys who were neutral guys, so we just kind of threw 'em on the evil side or threw 'em on the good side if we weren't sure."

The way I see it, the intro movie for MKA has no impact on the storyline and is just there to look cool.

You also have to remember that to the casual fans of MK (who only "know" MK's story from the movies) Scorpion and Sub-Zero are still the deadliest of enemies and it would seem strange to them if those two characters weren't fighting.

By the way, I love your ideas XD84 and agree that Sareena should be part of MK8 instead of just being killed off in MKA.

I don’t think it would be anything like Kitana-Mileena. Yes they might be 2 sisters in battle, but it doesn’t resemble anything else: both could be dark/evil, none is a clone, none is trying to rule above the other for jealousy or revenge, etc.

I can see a lot of things that would make them different from the first sisters.

As for Ashrah not being a true “biological” sister, yes, I know, but I guess its still possible (like I mentioned) that we didn’t know about the existence of a fourth sister.

Oh, I explained myself badly in my post, when I talked about the MKM look for Sareena, I didn’t just mean the costume, I ment the entire face and hair. There was a concept of her, very old for MKM where she looked rather mature and evil, very skinny and very evil, that looked awesome, plus the hair was longer and looked cooler.

It's true that a confrontation between Sub-Zero and Noob Saibot is predictable to an extent. Some would probably say it's fitting, but it is true you can more or less figure out how the story will go before it ends: Sub-Zero finds out who Noob Saibot really is....he's upset because it's his brother....he realizes his brother's gone......they fight.......Subz wins.....the end.
But the problem with going the really unpredictable route...like having Sub-Zero have nothing to do with Noob whatsoever...is it creates a sense of being left hanging. In a certain way it doesn't feel right. Like to use Kitana & Mileena as an example (yeah, yeah...one track mind...sue me)...I say Kitana should have nothing to do with Mileena in Armageddon. Mileena should not be her concern. It's predictable and boring. Same with Mileena. Problem is, because this is the grand finale game and they're looking to tie up loose ends, it would feel wrong for them to NOT have ANY kind of interaction or confrontation at all. It's a double-edged sword.
In my opinion, the solution...in this case...is to make the circumstances and events that happen in between and around the story interesting and unique. It's the twists and turns along the way that matter, not the outcome or plot itself. Okay, Sub-Zero will fight Noob and most likely win. But what will happen along the way? Where will Smoke and Sareena and Frost and maybe even Scorpion stand? What will they do and what will happen to them?
The're a fine line between being predictable and being painfully predictable and that's what I'm looking out for, for the most part.



That's an interesting take. If she is to be evil I only hope they don't do something cliche and boring like having her simply be a power-hungry traitor. While personally, I want Sareena to lean towards the good side, your take could open interesting possibilities and make her something fairly unique and worth-while which is really what I want.



Like queve said, if they don't make it a rivalry based on jealousy and whatnot then it wouldn't rehash Kitana and Mileena.
Personally, if they do fight, I think it'd be because Ashrah jumps to the conclusion Sareena is evil like I explained before. Since they share similar goals and enemies, I think an alliance would be more likely.

I like the Sareena looks so far and I'm glad her alt. is her Mythologies attire. Her vs. screen render looked great and on the big cast render...in my honest opinion...Sareena had the best looking face of all the female characters.

Okay,Sareena was banshied to the fifth plain right, because she sorta took out Quan-chi herself and banshied by Shinnok, and in MKD konquest she said she was hiding from the brotherhood so here where her potential comes in, Why are they looking for her? was it cause she found a way out? or is thier someone looking for her ,now it cant be Kia, or Jakata since thier dead though no one in mk ever stays dead, but that does leave one more who did know of Sareena, the original Sub-Zero aka Noob Saibot.
now in his mkd ending though it was not true, but it did prove that he remebers bits of his former life, cause it kept bugging me , it said something like he would of been proud of his brother for becoming powerful and strong IF it had not been for him being the wraith it was something close to that. is he the one thats looking for sareena? maybe, would he remeber her?, maybe.

but who really knows whats gonna come up in thier stories.

Well the side-missions in Konquest weren't canon and the Brotherhood was looking for Sareena because she betrayed the clan.
However, you bring up a good point. Even it wasn't canon, it could be a hint that Noob Saibot does have something in store for Sareena....whether he wants her to join him or he just wants to kill her.

yeah, thats the point I was trying to make. I mean anything is possible but considering all the other charcters involed it may not have that much depth put in to it. as much as we would like it to be.

what if Ashrah gives Sareena the Kriss she used to become human? Sareena should be part of MK8 couse she has the same anount of Fan as Scorpion and Sub-zero. and i think ed boon hinted that Ashrah and Dariuss are going to join them. and Sareena has lots to go on as she trying to change her self like how Ashrah did but we all know sometime we cant escape the pass and there will be someone after still even if Shinook and Quan Chi die and it might be Noob Saibot or someone eles. as i read above you like her better evil and some of you whould like her to be good as we all know she will be Netrual. and her abalitys could help them if or when Li mei becomes a new evil or some one else becomes it.

I don't know what you're referring to about Darrius and...while Sareena is fairly popular....I don't think she's on the same level as Scorpion or Sub-Zero. Which can be a good thing, depending on your point of view.
But yes, Sareena does have a lot of potential and she can very easily carry on in the next gen games. Hopefully she will.

I can see Ashrah passing the Kriss onto Sareena when she's doe with it. I think...assuming Sareena wants to become human...using the Kriss is the best way to go. And I imagine Ashrah would see a reflection in Sareena and encoure to get it.

The thing that needs to be watched out for is making Sareena a rip-off of Ashrah...which could be an easy pit to fall into by getting the Kriss. Way to keep it interesting is have Sareena try to get it...but not succeed. Like maybe a bad guy finds it first and with0holds it from her. Or just flat-out shattering it just to fuck with her.
Should she fail to get the Kriss, this would lead her to search for other ways to become human. Perhaps a future villain tries to get her to join him/her by offering to turn her human. What would win out...her own goals or her loyalty to whatever allies she has?

But as I've said before, I think she should be neutral...but lean towards the good side. I think they can get more out of her that way..and without her just being a side character to someone else's story.

you know i just had this thought about sareena and thought i should post it before i forgot,

lets assmue she'll be in MK8, and lets also assume Ashrah and Noob Saibot are killed in armageddon, so where would that leave sareena? since her only story is gone where would that leave her? but then i got to more thinking and thought will they bring back her old possible tie with reiko, though that was dropped or forgotten about due to the whole shao khan issue, assmuing reiko makes it too. Or are they just gonna give her a clean slate?

well that was the thought of Sareena i just had to get down.

Well sareena i would also like to see is her other goals. We know she wants to get out of the neitherealm.

But what will she do when she's out. Because everything else about her is sort of not known.

I don't own gameboy advance mkda, so i don't know that story. I only know what other people here told me, which is about here encounter with sub-zero and from mk:ms.

Where did I ever say gameplay wasn't important? Where did I ever claim the storyline was more important than the gameplay?

Oh that's right...I never did. OBVIOUSLY gamepay has to be good. Storyline is crucial...but gameplay should always be number 1 priority.

Reason I don't talk about it as much is I have little to say in that department aside from "I hope Sareena plays good. I hope she's a strong character...but not cheap."
And judging from the E3 build, she will play good. And if they change her, hopefully it will be for the better. What else is there to say?

The purpose of this thread is to discuss her storyline...of which I have plenty to say...as I'm sure you can see.


Now on to relevent issues...


Yeah, Sareena is out of the Netherealm, as JediTommy pointed out.
But it's not true at all that without Noob Saibot or Ashrah Sareena will have nothing further to do. All Sareena needs is a long-term goal or motivation of her own. I think it should be that she wants to become human. Purify herself or just regain her soul....whatever you want to call it, she doesn't want to be a Demon anymore. Which would create the immediate question of how would she accomplish that and what would she have to do? If she failed to get the Kriss, what would be her other options? If any relevent survivors from this generation are around, they could provide problems with her...as could new characters introduced. And of course, you can use this explore her past. Why doesn't she want to be a Demon anymore? Was she born a Demon or was she turned into one a long time ago? Did something happen to her that made her want to change? And so on...
There's more to Sareena than just Noob Saibot and Sub-Zero.

Speaking of which, assuming Sub-Zero's ending is true....
Now I really hope she doesn't betray him. Without spoiling the ending, it seems a lot of people are going to be gunning for ol' Subz ass now...which I feel is more reason for her to stay by his side. Makes the situation more interesting IMO....that of all people, the one person to stick with him was this Demon chick. That's still a risk to him anyway.
Also, think about this: if the Elder Gods want Sub-Zero dead, and Sareena sticks with him...but wants to become human.....what would happen if the Elder Gods offered to turn Sareena human if she betrayed Sub-Zero? Puts her in another potential conflict, no?
