Well, as it's pretty obvious to you all, Sub-Zero is my favorite MK character and with MKA along the way, I decided to make a topic regarding him. Oh and this thread allows only for interesting and constructive conversation so no stupid shit like "Sub-Zero sucks." and "I hate Sub-Zero." or something to that extent. So to sum it up for boys and girls, if you have something constructive and relevant to the topic, go on and post. Otherwise, don't bother posting at all.
APPEARANCE
I think Sub-Zero is a character who has some unique looks to him. I enjoyed his MKD looks a lot, but I wasn't fond of the bald/ponytail combo in his alt costume. If they only have two costumes though, I wouldn't mind seeing either of them return. If they have 3 altogether, I would probably like to see his MKDA primary one to mix things up a little. What I mean is, have his MKD primary in which he has the armor look with the helmet then his MKD alt with the mask and a different costume while he has his MK3 type costume with the 50ish Bruce Wayne look for his MKDA primary costume.
STORYLINE
Sub-Zero has quite a few different directions to go and I think he has one of the best stories. Unfortunately, with the way things seem to be planned with the story direction, it seems like his story in this game will have to be very compact and he'll have to wrap a lot of things up.
I think these characters should be the main ones to tie into his story for this game:
Noob Saibot: sibling rivalry; this should be like the main thing for his story
Smoke: trying to free his best friend..that sort of thing
Frost: this depends on her motives; i'd like to see her be evil and sided with Noob Saibot or just be against him and him having to deal with her a bit
Sareena: I really hope she'll be tied into Noob's story so I hope that she'll also tie into Sub-Zero's story and maybe they'll work together or something when it comes to Noob. Either way, she needs involvement with those two in her MKA story, imo.
Scorpion: The two are no longer enemies and I hope they can tie Scorpion's storyline into the Sub/Noob conflict, perhaps with the two former enemies joining forces.
Sektor: Sektor = huge threat to Sub-Zero and Lin Kuei so I wouldn't be surprised if Sektor is going to try to destroy Sub-Zero. Maybe Sektor and Noob Saibot will join forces or something or maybe Sektor will just try to wipe out Sub-Zero's Lin Kuei warriors with the Tekunin cyborgs. It can go different ways. Either way, I'd picture an eventual battle between Sub-Zero and Sektor.
Aside from these characters, maybe Ashrah could tie into the Sub-Zero/Noob Saibot conflict since she wants to slay Noob Saibot and escape the Netherrealm. I'd like to see more backstory on Sub-Zero's race and what they were all about and what happened to them and all. I'm sure maybe we'll see Sub-Zero helping out the other heroes against the major main evil forces.
Sub-Zero's story is left off with him and Kenshi traveling only at night in Outworld to find a way back to Earthrealm and Hotaru is following the two so it needs to continue from there. Do the two split off? Does Hotaru catch up to them and try to destroy them? Also, Sub-Zero is unaware of what happened to the 5 heroes who tried to take on the Deadly Alliance and their Tarkatan forces.
If he's going to die, I think it should be trying to use all of his power to destroy Noob Saibot and I would like to see his soul go inside his armor so that there'll be someone in the future who will be destined to wear it. That's another thing too. Him getting that armor and donning it has to be no coincidence so what's he being destined for exactly? Do all of these power boosts and him looking younger in MKD than in MKDA along with the power s of cold have a particular significance? Is it possible that since he has Outworld heritage from his father's side and along with this power that the MK storywriters might make it so that he can live a long time?
So all in all, they need to tie up a lot of stuff with his storyline and really make his storyline long, deep, logical, and end things off nicely. I see some really good potential stuff for him and they should NOT fuck things up.
GAMEPLAY
Sub-Zero is a lower tier character in both MKDA and MKD and it's because he's a pretty solid character. He got much better gameplay wise in MKD due to a few different reasons, but he still can't stand a chance against certain characters so I hope he gets toned up but will still be solid and balanced.
Fighting Styles
Shotokan: I personally don't think that this style suits him. It's a Japanese style of Karate founded in the 1930s and it's powerful, direct, and aggressive. I can see that Sub-Zero is powerful, but he's always given me more of the impression of him being intelligent, calculating and more on the defensive side. That's not to say that Shotokan lacks defensive techniques, but it's a martial art that leans much more to the offensive side.
Since they're probably not going to change his styles, they need to make his Rising Thrust Kick (3) a mid again so it can hit crouching opponents. He needs a fast high attack like a jab and his Spear Hand Strike (1) on its own is a shitty move so that should be replaced with a fast, safe high hitting jab. I'm glad Sub-Zero has the D + 1 poke but he's not that fast when it comes to being able to do it over and over again. It's more of the type of poke in which you charge forward and poke which isn't necessarily bad. Maybe that's how things are supposed to be balanced for that move? I don't know.
My big problem with Shotokan is the lack of good enough mixups with his combos. He should have a combo that has a low attack in it. It's cool that he has combos like 1, 1, 3, F + 3 and 1, 1, 3, 2 and 1, 1, 3, B + 2 as well as 1, 1, 3, CS. That's great and all and of course would be better if 3 were a mid hitting attack that could hit a crouching opponent, but it would also be even better if he had a combo like 1, 1, 3, 4 in which 4 would be some kind of low kick.
I'm not sure what else is there to really help with it, but either way, Shotokan needs to be better with some things.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dragon: This was his best style in MKDA, but in MKD, I feel like it's his worst. Now, that's not to say that the style sucks, but it could be much better and still be pretty solid. Dragon seems to be his mix up style as well as his speed style which is good. I feel Sub-Zero should have some pretty good speed overall, because I don't want him to be slow.
If I'm not mistaken, in MKDA, 1, (1, 1), and (1, 1, 2) could be backdashed. It doesn't seem that way to me in MKD and I think those moves need to go back to being exactly as they were in MKDA with that aspect. D + 2, which was a shitty ranged but mid hitting launch move in MKDA is now a shitty ranged, mid hitting, useless piece of shit of a move. What the fuck were they on when they decided to take out that effect of that move? *sighs* D + 2, despite its shitty range, really needs to go back to the way it was in MKDA and if anyone disputes with me on that, let me ask you this:
Would you rather have a close-ranged, mid-hitting move that launced the opponent into the air if connected and pushed the opponent away a bit on block or would you rather have a close-ranged move that does crap damage, is unsafe on block and is just a one hit type move?
Anyhoo, another move that needs to go back to the way it was in its MKDA version is none other than U + 4. In MKDA, U + 4 (Wheel Turning Kick) tracked and hit mid and knocked the opponent down. In MKD, it hits HIGH, tracks and knocks the opponent down. It's not like the move was broken in MKDA so I don't see why it shouldn't go back to its MKDA version.
His Roundhouse Kick (3) needs to be useful as it's pretty useless and definitely unsafe on block.
Aside from all of this, Sub does have some interesting mix up combos in Dragon. I'm glad they added the 1, 1, 2, CS combo and if 1, 1, 2 were made like it was in MKDA, it could make you able to either backdash to be safe or you could press the CS button to hit the crouching opponent into the air for some good damage.
B + 1 needs to be taken out. It sucks in both games and should be replaced with a better move that's actually useful. D + 1 in MKD is a strange poke that can guarantee a free throw and I think even a free Icy Lift if I'm not mistaken. To be honest, I hated this move at first, because I thought it was shitty and unsafe and all that. However, when I learned about the uses of it and all and I tried testing things out, it came to be quite good so I think he should definitely keep this poke move. Maybe Dragon could do with a couple more mid attacks or something, but I don't know. Anyhoo, moving on.....
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kori Blade: Ah yes, Kori Blade...his worst style in MKDA, but his best style in MKD. Now, although I still don't quite like the idea of Sub-Zero using a big, power based weapon like this, he should keep it for this game for gameplay purposes, because it actually proved its worthiness to me at the very least.
B + 2, D + 3, (1, B + 1), and D + 2 should all be kept as they were in MKD. The useless moves like 3, B + 3, 2, U + 1, D + 1, 4, and B + 4 should all be replaced with better moves. Imo, his D + 3 move should take the D + 1 spot for the command to make things easier and better. The only good thing to me about Kori Blade in MKDA were 4 and B + 4. I'd rather see those moves rather than the ones he had for 4 and B + 4 in MKD. I know Kori Blade isn't meant to be big on combos on its own, but I would like to see 1 or 2 more combos at least in it. But even so, Kori Blade is actually pretty good as it is for the most part. I would just like to see a bit of things tweaked here and there, that's all.
SPECIAL MOVES
Freeze: This is Sub-Zero's main move basically and apparently, despite it being the same as it was in MKDA, it's more useful (sorta) in MKD. I would honestly like to see the Freeze go back to the way it was in the earlier MKs since it was faster and would actually be a bit safer to use at closer ranges.
Ice Clone: This is a great move for Sub-Zero and creates for some mind games. With the aerial combat that's going to be in this game, I really hope that he can do the Ice Clone in the air. That'll be awesome if he'll be able to and he better be able to! *shakes fist* I think at close-range, when he does the Ice Clone, it should just have him slide back enough to keep him away from the opponent.
Cold Shoulder: This is a move liked by some, hated by others. I think it's a pretty cool move. It should definitely continue to hit mid. The damage is alright, I guess. Maybe just round it out to 10 damage or something and be able to hit crouching opponents. It should definitely go under high attacks, and I think it should be safe on block or at least safe enough.
Moves that he could have:
Diagonal Freeze: This could make for an anti-air move if he shoots it diagonally upward or be a defense move if he shoots it diagonally downward (aka his traditional Ground Freeze/Ice Blast...whichever name you go by for it) and it would of course hit low and have the same effects it's always had basically. Perhaps it should be unblockable as well.
Slide: His old Slide move from the old MKs. If Cold Shoulder were to go under high attacks and be safe, I don't think there'd be a need for this move. However, if Cold Shoulder were to stay as it were, maybe he should have this move again. I'm thinking it should either be like it was in the older MKs by being a quick, low attack that goes under highs and maybe mids and trips the opponent or it could launch the opponent into the air like in MKSM.
FATALITIES
I really love both of his MKD fatalities and I would like to see those return. I also liked his Deep Freeze in MK4. I just thought that was kind of cool the way they did it and it would be nice to see again. I can't really think of any ideas as to new fatalities for him, but I would like to see at least 1 new fatality for Sub-Zero.
OVERALL
There's a lot that can be done with Sub-Zero, and I just hope that if this is going to be his last game, they need to do a lot of justice with him.

Ah... good old Subby... although I like Scorpion more, he's still pretty cool.... (no pun intended)
Appearance: I liked his MK:D primary outfit so I'd like to see that be his primary outfit for this game. However his alt could be his MK:DA masked outfit and/or perhaps his MK:SM look as well.
Storyline: If this is Sub-Zero's last game while I see his story ultimate leading up to the final showdown with his evil older brother, Noob Saibot. Sub-Zero may try to change his brother back to his old self, however I don't see him succeeding. I say that he'll realize that his brother is gone and see Noob Saibot as just an insult to his brother's memory. As for the case with Smoke, well that depends... if he breaks free of Noob's reprogramming, Smoke could be on his side again and we could more into their friendship, if Smoke's still evil, then Sub-Zero might be forced to fight and destroy his best friend... As for Sektor, well I don't know how they could squeeze his conflicts with both Sektor and Noob into this game, but I attempted to in my plot summary... either way, I see Sub-Zero or Cyrax being the one to destroy Sektor...
As for the case with Scorpion, hopefully they'll take this opportunity to have the two former enemies team up to stop Noob... I mean come on, we've finally got a chance to see Scorpion and Sub-Zero officially team up, who wouldn't want that? As for Sareena, I see her getting involved with Noob Saibot and maybe being forced to choose sides... In the end I think Scorpion and Sub-Zero (with some help from Sareena) should both be the one to destroy Noob... but whether that will happen remains to be seen...
Gameplay:
Styles: Sub-Zero's never been one of my favorites to use so they should tone him up a bit, yet still keep him balanced. Perhaps Shotokan doesn't fit him, but it looks like it's here to stay so I think they should tone it up a bit. His Dragon style should be more like it was in MK:DA and less like it was in MK:D. Same with his Kori Blade except it should be reversed (more like MK:D Koriblade and less like MK:DA Koriblade)
Special Moves: He should have the freeze move of course. I also like the Ice Clone and Cold Shoulder. However, I would like to see his Slide back as well.
Fatalities: For nostalgic purposes, I think he should have his spine rip back as well, sorta like it was in MK4. I almost like his MK:D fatalities, but wouldn't mind seeing something new for him...
I don't think we'll see the last of the Lin Kuei Warrior after this game, but if it is, hopefully they'll tie his story up in a nice little bow and call it a day.

One thing I forgot to mention was his voice. I think it's just too silly with all of the gibberish. I'd like to see something cold and mysterious. To me, Sub-Zero is one of the harder characters when it comes to trying to think of the right voice for.
I wonder if he'll have his throw from MKDA. If so, I wonder how it can be made to be useful. If he's going to have his MKD throw, well, hmm, it wasn't anything spectacular, but it wasn't cheap which is good. I thought it was kind of a brutal type throw and I'd like to see Sub-Zero with a more technique based throw, maybe something more related to his Dragon style.

For his appearance, he should have his MKDA alternative, and his MKD default costumes. The specials I wanna see him have are the following-
Freeze-duh
Ice Clone-I liked his MK4 clone because he jumped back when he did it. MKD they didn't do that. It was a great move to escape attacks, so it should return as it was in MK4
Cold Shoulder (or whatever it's called) I like this move way better then the slide move. I guess it's because it does more damage and can be used quicker. I hated using the slide move in arcades.
Ground freeze- The good ol' ground freeze. Stops the computer from advancing. I can't beleive they gave this move to Bo Rai Cho (the move where he barfs)
Moves that I would like to see them make-
Air freeze- Hey, they're gonna have aireal combat so why not an aireal freeze attack? You could freeze the oponent while you're both in the air.
Fog- He creates fog that goes all around the arena, and you can't see your character. Kind of like invisibility except you're both invisible. You're probably wondering how the hell could Subby make a fog. Well, if you have the Subby site theme you'll see. Just look at his hands!
As a throw he should have the freeze and throw move. Basicly he freezes you and then throws you in any direction. Like the epic battle card game.
His story should have something to do with Sareena, Scorpion, Noob, Smoke, and Sektor. He has to fight Noob Saibot in this game. No doubt about it. Unless the MK team screws him up.

Special moves should be the same, although
Ice Shower: Since MKA will have an aerial game, I think they should bring back this move from MK3
Storyline: I have to wonder, what in the world is Sub-Zero going to do. The guy has like 20 million enemies. Plus with Frost and Sektor coming back, it doesn't seem to get any better for him.
He has
Noob Saibot, Smoke, Sektor, Frost, Hotaru, Shinook, Dragon King,
Other possible enemies:
Hsu Hao & Mavado: Read Hsu Hao's ending from MK DA. The Lin Kuei are second on the hit list after the Black Dragon.
Baraka: I mean the Tartarkans are after him.
Ashrah: Bit of a stretch...but I remember reading Chrome's bio on her and I could see that happening.

Finally, A thread about my favorite character.
Story: He should set smoke free so he could change back to his ninja form(Aculeus? has a wonderful picture of smoke in a wicked gray ninja suit, KUDOS to you) and Noob he should change his mindset, but somehow noobs' body can't change back so he stays black cursed by the evil that once lurked in him. Ermac should join Sub-zero's side, but not be a tag-team like Noob-Smoke. He should defeat Quan-Chi, since after all in mk 4 he revealed that he was using Scorpion to defeat Sub-Zero since he was a threat.
Costume: He should have a costume as goes: Head MKDA alternate with the bad ass mask,Arms MkDA alternate frozen arms with black arm bands, Torso MKSM with no Shoulder Pads, Flap MKSM, Waist Band MKSM with MKDA Alternate Dragon Medallion that he wears as Grandmaster of the lin-kuei, Pants MKSM with no Knee Pads, Footwear MKSM. THAT.....WOULD.....BE....AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
His Alternate should be a young version of Sub-Zero, about Twenty years old to Twenty Five. He should be Unmasked with a Icy Blue scar. His Hair should be black and styled like randy orton, His Torso Should be his MKDA main costume, but Royal Blue In Color. His pants Should be MK3 with a Royal Blue Flap, with Black trim. His Footwear should MK 3.
Special Moves: Ice Shower (MK3), Freeze, Icy ground freeze, Ice Clone, Sweep kick.
Weapon: Kori Blade (just make him faster with it)
Fighting Styles: Some that are Fast and powerful while defensive and smart.
Fatilities: Deep Freeze like MK4(Preset fatality) Head with spine attatched rip like MK4, but maybe freeze the head and spinal cord this time before ripping it out, and have lots of blood flow from the neck as they fall to their knees slowly and then to the floor( Preset Fatality) Mk3 fatality where he picks them up over his head and freezesn them, only then to rip thim into icy shards. SWEET! thats all for now, awesome ideas everybody.

no 1 the story i think/hope he's going to ally with scorpion i mean they should because they have shown a clear bond and both are noble and honorable warriors.... and one thing is certain, unless boon is on crack, LSD,Xtasy and many other synthetics the icy ninja is due to make it to the new generation...
no 2 shotokan and dragon are ok but as i have said before the kori blade however cool and diversifing to his style should be replaced with a more light weapon.
no 3 we need a sub-zero emoticon!!! scorpion has his
reptile has his
we need one 2

Well, it's sort of nice of you to bring my old thread back up, but it's almost like 3 months old or so....
But anyway, I look forward to Sub-Zero and I hope he at least keeps Dragon style, his MKD specials and MKD primary costume..

uh huh.....
Um...anyway...regarding Sub-Zero and Scorpion...yes, they are honorable...but that doesn't exactly mean it's going to be simple for them just to side together despite having a common enemy (Quan Chi)
the reason why I say this is because Scorpion seems to be a very independent person...

yeah i am aware this is an old thread but i felt i just had to say,
"Sub-Zero sucks! I hate Sub-Zero!!!" nah lol jk jk... sub zeros a pretty cool character...
i really hope he comes back in the next gen coz id rather hav him than scorpion! his kori blade was cool (WAY better than his ice sceptor that sucked) and i think he shuld keep that for a while. as for his shotokan im not sure whether i like it or not but dragon's okay... oh and heres a subby emoticon for whoever mentioned that

i wasn't think about the american view of lets be friends and smack the bad guy but more of a head to head non-violent confrutation in which they see how much they have in common and vow to help each other in the future and then they both part towards their separate destinies
and what about the kori blade? wouldn't you rather have him wield a lighter weapon?

I know what you mean, but I'm thinking in terms of Scorpion's mentality and his independence. Although, hopefully, the two warriors will agree to team up against Noob Saibot.
Regarding the Kori Blade, once again, you have to keep in mind about the gameplay aspects. While I don't see Sub-Zero being a power-oriented fighter, the Kori Blade was the source of his high damaging combos thanks to his Icy Lift (B + 2) which leads to at least 46% damage if you do the following combo:
B + 2...CS~1, 2 ~ 1, 2, 4, CS, 2, CS
You could also do something like this:
B + 2...CS ~ 1, 2 ~ 1, 2, 4, CS, 2, U + 4 ~ Cold Shoulder (B + 4)
That one is hard to do though...
If giving Sub-Zero a lighter sword would help his gameplay style, then I would support the idea.

exactly what i'm saying:D
and i think noob is in for it he's bound to get both ninjas agravated so i think they will both see the danger he represents and i think we'll have a very deep dialogue between the two(sz and scorp)

My question to you is, how would giving Sub-Zero a lighter sword help his gameplay style?

well he has never been a massive damage dealer.. he was always a defensive fighter to begin with and a faster and less destructive weapon goes with this concept it keeps focus on his agility

i disagree..........

i think sub zero's sword should change from the Kori sword (sp?) into like an Icicle sword.
Sure its gimmicky but it would be more realistic IMO for the man of ice and would probably allow for quicker attacks which has been called for.
Also drop the Shredder look and return to the "Ice Arms" look.
Finally its pretty much a given that he'll take on Noob at somepoint. Hopefully though Sub-Z will try and help his bro first, rather than outright killing him. The Scorpion/Smoke/Sektor/Frost linkup is also highly likely but i can't see him featuring with anyone else, mind you actually Hotaru and Kenshi could be likely as well. (See his Deception ending for more details)

First of all, Sub Zero is my favourite aswell.
Anyway...
The slide move was better than the Cold Shoulder. The CS was a good move, but i like the slide move better. I just hope you don't have to press 4 buttons to do it if it's in the game.
About his fighting styles, I liked them all. I really kick as with him!(Don't wanna brag, but oh well) But it would be nice if he had better, more combo-ish ones.
I liked every single fatality he has ever performed. And i too hope to see new ones. At least one, anyway.
His story... Well, i have many different opinions for his story.
He and Scorpion might end up having to team up, to defeat each others enemies. Noob Saibot wants to kill both of them, and Frost wants to eliminate Sub Zero. Smoke and Sektor might be on Noobs side too. Sareena, will also be on his side, if she still thinks of him the same way as before. So it would be a battle between Sub Zero and Scorpion Versus Noob Saibot, Smoke, Frost, Sektor and Sareena. Sareena might realize she is fighting for the wrong guys, and change sides to Sub Zero and Scorpion, and it ends with them being victorious.
Oh, by the way, how can you like Dragon in MKDA, but not in MKD. And you like the Kori Blade in MKD, but not in MKDA. As if there's any difference?

I hate, repeat, hate his costume in DA and D. He looks like shredder from 'Ninga Turtles'....his alternate wasnt to bad in D, but still why the long hair?...i loved the outfit they had on him in SM, and i saw the wallpaper on MKArmageddon.com and that outfit kicks ass.....so i hope they put that one in there and loose the shredder look...

I think his Deception outfit was great. I didn't like the alt. on that, but i liked his first costume. It differs him from the other ninjas. Makes him look in his own way. His MKDA outfits was great too! I hope he has them both, if not a new one.
By the way, anyone know if the impale move will be returning?
I hope that Midway gives him a unique costume for his primary instead of a ninja looking one like the MK:DA alternative. He's a Lin Kwei, not a ninja. he makes this point over and over. He needs a distinct costume that breaks away from the ninja look.
