Alright, for a while now I have been seeing a lot of FALSE information being posted throughout the boards, weather they are questions, or theories. Most of this false information is being provided through the popular website WikiPedia . I’m making this post to clear up any information being posted via Wikipedia.
I’d like people to read this post and take into consideration that things on wikipedia are false. This is not a slanderous post to advise you to stay away from WikiPedia, it’s just a mere warning to watch out and not believe everything you read off WikiPedia. WikiPedia can be resourceful in some aspects, but if you’re going for 100% accuracy it’s best to just stick with the facts provided by fan sites, such as: MKOnline, MKOutworld and so on and so forth.
WikiPedia describes itself:
“Wikipedia is an online free-content encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales has described Wikipedia as "an effort to create and distribute a multilingual free encyclopedia of the highest possible quality to every single person on the planet in their own language." Wikipedia exists to bring knowledge to everyone.”
In simple terms, WikiPedia can be edited by anyone and everyone. You can even make your own pages on video games if you felt the need to. It’s simple to create a false page about a false game, and convince users that the game even exists.
Here’s a small example,
You can access the WikiPedia MK:Armageddon Page Here. Take note, you will see small [edit] links throughout the page which look like so:
With a simple click, and a small imagination -- you can add anything to that page. I’ve added a small string of text saying: “Liu Kang will turn into a monkey at the end of the game”. This is false, and is a perfect example of how WikiPedia can betray you into thinking that, well, Liu Kang is going to turn into a monkey at the end of the game, which I repeat, is false.
Be warned, WikiPedia can be edited by anyone and everyone, and should not be used for a precise and accurate reference web-site. . Especially for a game that hasn’t even been released yet., also, please pay attention and notice that there is a vandalism report page, which can be accessed by clicking Here. And to clear up all thoughts - that this is not a "WikiPedia hate thread", I'm trying to emphasize that WikiPedia is not always 100% accurate, and should not be used to try to prove theory's and what not.
That’s all.
Update: This is a small update to my post that I felt was necessary if I’m going to be speaking of WikiPedia’s MK Pages. As Shadaloo and IamTheS have brought this to my attention. There is a group of MK fans that are determined to keep WikiPedia’s pages from slanderous and false information. This is called the: WikiProject Mortal Kombat, and you can find out more about it by clicking: Here , I hope that people are encouraged by these people who donate their hard work and dedication to the MK Community - to keep WikPedia’s Mortal Kombat pages clean, true, and informative!

I just read your post, then went to Wiki - and although your speaking of a serious nature, I couldn't help but chuckle at the "monkey" comment. I often wonder why people are so apt to believe what they see in print so quickly. I suppose Gullible is an island that many live on.

I would laugh it were true.
Anyway...erm, what can i say really...congratulations? I don't know why people say that wikipedia is so unreliable. I mean yeah it can be edited but most of the false stuff that stays on there is just up and coming things (movies, games etc) and it even says at the top "some of the infomation here may be pure speculation blah blah blah" or something like that but there is some very informative stuff on wiki.
Just my rant.

Well said, I would just like to say most things are pretty accurate but since this can be created/updated by anyone there are bound to be some errors. Its still generally alright to quote something off wikipedia but dont let that be your main source all the time, there are usually tons of sources that are more correct then wiki. Also it should be noted that wiki sometimes involve opinions of the author which people may or may not agree with, which is why we should do our best to keep it as neutral as possible and give more than one opinion rather than picking one.

I don't disagree that WikiPedia has some informative stuff, but It's really hard to explain to people how to filter out the good from the bad on Wiki.
This post is just to advise people to beware that Wiki is not always true.

Yeah, a few days ago someone edited Sub Zero.
It said:
Allies
----------------
Oprah
Pee Wee Herman
Mr. Rodgers
Pizza
Tom Cruise
And for enemies
----------------------------
Chuck Norris
Yo Momma
Dogs
Hannah Montanna
Spongebob
I hate how anyone can vandalise Wiki.

Nice thread, but It was pretty obvious Wikipedia isn't a credable source when anyone can click the edit button and add anything they like.

I was reading the page on Chameleon shortly after he was confirmed in the updated character select screen. The author claimed that he was confirmed to be a Saurian (Reptile, Khameleon's race), when absolutely nothing has been said about his race ever.
I would have fixed it had I Wikipedia account. It might still be up, I can't be arsed to check it since I'm lazy witha slow computer

^^ Thats another problem, you dont even need a wiki account to change things on most pages, as long as you can access the site and click the edit button you can change things.

i use no other source than this site, when something is confirmed somewhere elsewhere it only takes about at most hours to be posted here by our reliable mods..

Also, before it said Reptile was 17,and Mileena was 1,and she was a street hooker.

i also hate it when people put in semi-beleivable stuff i was looking up ultimate spider-man (the comic not the game) and it said "peter and eddie's parents died when eddie brock sr. tried to put on the "venom" suit designed to attach with richard parker on a plane he became a "venom" and caused the plane crash" which i believed for a sec and i started combing through my (complete
) ultimate marvel collection and it wasn't in their man that was a good fan-fic edit but it wasn't true

Cmon guys, there's always gonna be stupid idiots that will fuck up an article.
Wikipedia is both a blessing and a curse. Any knowledgable person can add scores of legitimate information, but on the other hand, any bored little kid can write literal rubbish in the articles.
However, it is quite alarming when I see many topics, especially on this board, stating "Don't believe Wikipedia, it's all false". Many of us at Wikipedia, especially on the MK Wikiproject, strive to attempt to make sure that as much information as possible can be verified. Keep in mind that the founder of the MK Wikiproject, Shadaloo, is a moderator here.
But the lack of faith you have in us to make Wikipedia great only serves to make it worse, not better.

I have never wrote a wikipedia article but from time to time I have edited a few things to make articles a little bit more accurate or taking out things that arent really true, just the other day I took out something saying that Ed Boon said the adventure game characters are making the MK A cut... something very inaccurate.

A while ago, I was on a big MK hiatus after MK4. Then when I played Deception, I got interested in the series again big time. To catch up on all the plot points I'd missed, I used Wikipedia's information to build up. The things I read were only confirmed to be truth later.
I didn't know I had to have an account to edit an article though. If I do see an incorrect piece of info again, I'll be sure to rectifiy it.

Thanks for the nod, S.
Just for the record, I say again that you all should have seen the MK pages before the MK wikiproject was started. It was, believe it or not, far, far worse. We cleaned up the pages quite a bit, but things do tend to slip through.
I would advise MKO's users to use it as a handy-ish reference guide, keeping in mind some things may be false, but to especially to take any "New Characters" "Ed Boon statements", or "Recent Announcements" that you see on the MK pages there with a grain of salt. Look to the professional MK pages first for those. If you saw a new character or some such at WIkipedia first, chances are it's bullshit.
And also, keep in mind that no matter what the pages may be altered to say, Shaolin Monks ain't canon. :P

This post wasn't intended to insult or degrade the people that do take their hard time to fix up and clear the MK Wiki Pages (Which I'm assuming is the MK Wiki project, I could be wrong.)
It's just an advisor to people that Wikipedia is not always correct for a “news“ page, because as you can see. There is false information posted on Wikipedia, regardless of the MK pages or not. People intend to fix any errors on wikipedia, which is great. But before users can fix the incorrect data, hundreds of other people are reading false information.
There’s a good reason why I mainly mentioned the fan-sites for "official" statements, and all that. Because WikiPedia can be used for a past-tense reference site for older MK games. But as news for a un-released video game, people should stick to the fan sites. That’s why this is posted in the MK:Armageddon forum, rather than the Classic MK Discussion.
