At first Kahn is not immortal,because Quan Chi and shang tsung kill him (or better,they thinked that kill him).
If the two sorcerers know about kahn's immortality(i think that at least tsung should know this) he never try to kill him.
For me kahn is some kind of Nheterelm monster,more powerful than a oni,or maybe he is something create by The One Being and subdued to onaga.

Well as far as we know, it's impossible to say what kind of species is he, but also you gotta remember that power and magic consumes people, maybe he's was just a normal human or edenian ( remember those guys live forever) that was consumed by evil, power and other kinds of sorcery, he's just probably that Third Oni we never knew about

First of all Kahn IS an immortal. Being immortal and being invincible are two different things. If no one tries to assassinate him, Kahn could live indefinitely.

Maybe he looks the way he does because he tried to take Onaga's power and ended up looking only partially like a dragon. Maybe he always looked like that. I just don't know.

He's from the Outworld, land of human-looking people (Bo' Rai Cho, Li Mei) and beastly creatures (Tarkatans, Shokan, Centaurs). People from Outworld can probably look like just about anything.

I don't believe for one second that anyone can be a ''one of a kind'' or ''unique being''. Everyone has to come from somewhere (their parents), meaning he has to be some type of species. Meaning there are others of his kind out there somewhere. Unless he's a freak of nature, in which case he'd still be whatever species he was born from.
Maybe it was never revealed in the games because it's not important to his storyline. The games never give much backstory info for Kahn, but the movies have him as son of Shinnok & brother to Raiden. He killed kitanas father, caused Sindel to kill herself, and took over Edenia. (made it part of Outworld, etc.) that's the only backstory I've known for him, that's what I'm going with. Especially since the makers of the movies obviously must have consulted Boon for info on the characters. They didn't just make up whatever they wanted, Boon did have some involvement with the movies since he's the one who made the games. He also voiced Scorpion in both films.

So, for me, Kahn is an immortal God, because Shinnok is his father & Raiden is his brother. Canon or not, that's the only story I have seen or heard for Kahn. Until the GAMES say otherwise, that's what I'll believe.

I completly agree with chad, the movie was pretty much his only story and that would make him some kind of god.

Shao Kahn is not some type of god, he was once just a lowly assistant to Onaga. He wasn't always all powerful. He had to work for his power.

I'd hate to repeat myself but my last post was obviously ignored. Shao Kahn is from Outworld. A land full of mutants, tarkatans, centaurs, dragons, giant pterodactyls, living trees, and people resembling humans. There are all kinds of things there, Shao Kahn is one of them. He's probably just a mutant.

The original influence was probably Tarkatan, I read the mk team wanted to introduce a lot of them into MK2.

I thought it was a nice touch in deception’s konquest how it said Shao Kahn was once like Raiden, which could mean Shao Kahn was once a realm protector until he became fully corrupted.

Before Kahn was emporer, while Onaga was, yes Kahn was his advisor. Kahn then poisoned Onaga and that is when Kahn took over.

As for Kahn's species.... I'm unaware, of it's name, or atleast can't remember it, but he is part of a dragon race. He was from a realm wich long ago was destroyed, or was combined with Outworld or some thing. Anyways he was put into a human form and ended up in Edenia wich is where he grew up.

As far as I know that is canon or atleast real close to it.
