Any game involving fighting that goes more in depth than MKD/MKA is obviously a decent if not good "FIGHTING" game.

So while Dave sits here and talks shit about how childish it is, its sad, because he was stuck playing MKD/MKA for about 4 years.

Funny how Super Smash Bros Melee isnt even a fighting game (according to Dave and Nakm)... yet its played in huge tournaments where SF3/KOF/Ect tourneys are being held.

So.... who ever is claiming that its not even a fighting game is dead wrong. (no offense to anyone).

Yes, let's compare it to the two worst 3D fighting games (MK:DA & MK:A) possibly ever created to make ourselves feel better about SSB.

Please.

Why aren't you fanboys comparing it to Virtua Fighter or Tekken, or even Street Fighter? Because you know very well that you'll be laughed at by anyone who knows anything about fighting games.

It's simply not a fighting game in the traditional sense. That's a fact. You can call it whatever else you want.

Now I can buy a Wii and play SSBB online, wait until Check finds all that broken / laggy bull-shit and abuse it on you fools but I am not going to do that. I've wasted enough of my time on MK:D / MK:A anyway.

im certainly in no rush to play anything online-related.

speaking of that, i never even went on the MKA server to play a game unless i was asked to.

i havent cared about online in a long time, and like redsaleen said to me earlier, i dont know why people are getting all excited over a more then likely laggy online game.

i have no intention of playing many of you if the lag is retarded, no different then MKD/MKA. many of you have, however wasted your time doing so.

anyway with that said, maybe ill just wait to see how good it out turns before wasting 80 dollars on it.

so versa, wheres this roster at? id like to check it out, man.

and dave im really not trying to become the best player again. , i enjoy the series, they are fun. thats all that matters, but thats offline, lets see how it plays online before we pass judgement on it. im not a fighting game fanatic, i play mk, lol that should say enough. and i was never really that good in smash anyway, i liked kirby, thats about it. but i was fine with that, just as you were with dairou. hopefully, the game will have more to offer for ne, and regardless of online being shitty or not. ill still play it offline, no different then i did/do in mka while all 95% of you are done with it.

Though, feel free to share you infinite combos / glitches with me.

well, just so you know, the main reason i am buying it is because im a huge nintendo fanatic. i love the characters. to me thats whats most important, just like i love the mortal kombat franchise.

the games are also very fun and intense. i dont know what im doing half of the time, but its fun.

im going to run through MKA for WII first, then ill buy it, that way i can have time to see what all the hype is all about.

for the record, i never found any combos in smash bros. nor do i know if what i was doing was even good or not. i just know the only character i stood a chance with is kirby and he was extremly fun to play as even though i was mashing buttons most of the time

either way, look forward to sharing whatever information i have for you.smile

pretty soon ill have a ps3 ( and cable ) so we can finally play some tekken5 ; )

Dave, I think Arcade did mention that.

SSBM tournaments have been held at EVO and other places where Tekken and SF tournaments have also been held.

Dave, while I'm posting, may I ask, do you know much about the SSB games at all?

Just wondering.

Point of this topic was to be see what's up with people who might be interested or definitely will be playing, not who isn't playing and has absolutely no interest.

It seems DevilJin and Check gonna be on board so I'm pretty excited about that. Never fought Devil Jin, but Check definitely could become really good.

Check, the roster is

0. Ash Katchum/Pokemon Trainer
1. Bowser
2. Captain Falcon
3. Diddy Kong
4. Donkey Kong
5. Falco
6. Fox
7. Ganondorf
8. Ice Climbers
9. Ike
10.Jigglypuff
11.King Dedede
12.Kirby
13.Link
14. Lucario
14. Lucas
15. Luigi
16. Mario
17. Marth
18. Meta Knight
19.Mr Game & Watch
20. Ness
21. Peach
22. Pikachu
23. Pikmin and Olimar
24. Pit
25. R.O.B.
26. Samus
27. Sheik
28. Snake
29. Sonic
30. Toon Link
31. Wario
32. Wolf
33. Yoshi
34. Young Link
35. Zelda
36. Zero Suit Samus

Also Check you must realize MK was messy online due to bad codig and crappy servers. I can't promise it will be lag free, but it won't be nearly as bad.

i got up to ganondorf and starting drooling, good shit chris.

if it wasnt for that extra 30 dollars i would of ordered it yesterday. mka for wii is 30 dollars so when i return that, ill pick up that LAN adapter and copy of brawl.

dont worry, i will definitly be there and we will play regardless. but if it is too horrific, ( worse then mk ) then i just wont do it, man.

i cant wait for mario kart!! i wont play much of smash after that, unless i get addicted to it.

i know i know, youre probably thinking of motor kombat right now... wink lolgrin

dont even tell me motor kombat was a good game because the controls were horrible. thats why i couldnt play that shit. analog for controls? fuck thaaaat.

well as for what redsaleen said, i wonder what that was based upon? i heard nintendo games have been extremly laggy ( worse then mk ) online? i dont see how they, nevermind. ill just talk to you on aim.

I think you're in for a pleasant surprise brethren. Brawl is a vastly different game from melee - gone are the smash days of hyper speeds and frantic button mashing. Its a much more normalized pace w/ more of a focus on mind games and setups. They even have diminishing returns established in that spamming a single move over and over causes it to do less damage each time its used.

I'm actually looking forward to someone calculating the DR's on the moves, percentages they decrease by, and if over a period of time (in the same match) a specific move is not used... does it reset the damage dealt. Dunno if that interests you or not, but I DID think of you specifically when this was found.

Regarding the analog stick for control... im not sure what to say. They do have it setup for 4 different control schemes, but i think the high level sheeit will be based on analog.

Its w/e to all yall - just wanted to see some familiar faces (heh) in this new (for me) and extremely large community, not start another flame war that we are so accustomed to on these forums.

from what i seen, the game looks insane, much better then melee. thanks a lot for the breakdown, thats the first time ive ever read anything like that. im not too familiar with what you are saying. but its all good, ill learn.

my only gripe with the previous game was the fact that i was only able to use one character. i loved using all of them, dont get me wrong, but i lost with most of them, except kirby. ( yea i know, hes garbage, i heard, but alot better in brawl )

anyway, no, honestly, that doesnt interest me in actually sitting there and calculating shit, but i am quite fond of it in general, as you are. im sure someone out there will do the damn thing. if not, fuck it, ill try, why not.

and whatever happened in the past is a forgotten memory, i got nothing but love for ya, man. ever since you let me into ridn, i thought things were straight.

anyway, looking forward to fighting you soon drumz grin

the analog statement i did not get, however. i was refering to motor kombat. but maybe so were you, lol. sorry, i really didnt just wasnt feeling it altogether. it HAS to be mario kart, or fuck it, im not playing. im sure youll be on that shit too, right? i cant wait for that shit. im more excited about that then i am smash.

speaking of smash, youll be happy to know that i cleaned up my act in the past 2 years and barely do anything now. and feel much better smile

First off you idiots, I was A S K I N G if it's considered a fighting game or not. IORI then answered so there. As far as me joining RJ and representing west coast on Smash, no thanks. I'm already set for Tekken 6 and maybe Dave will be so I can destroy him along with those fake-ass Dark Lords.tongue

Lili > Mishimas

On top of that I've never been fully into Nintendo titles. They never really made me go "Oooooooo! Aaaahhhhhh!", ya dig? But if for some apparent reason I got a Wii out of desperation for something new and I had $250 to drop then I'd say SSBB would be the first game on my shelf, hehe.glasses

I know enough to know that it is not a fighting game. I have no idea why some of you cannot accept it.

So what if it has been held on popular tournaments? Anything that has a serious fan base will have tournaments.

As I've said, for serious fighting gamers there is Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter, Marvel, etc. for the rest there is SSB.

@ Dave.

Anything you've posted in this thread is absurd to a point where you should feel embarrassed.

If its at EVO, its a fighting game

How clear can that get, really ? How many people have to tell you the same exact thing before you finally comprehend ?

So if SSB isnt a fighting game, please enlighten us then.... what the fuck is it ?? You must know, Since you seem to be the god father of fighting games (or so you act),

Before you start giving off more nonsense though, look at this:

http://www.evo2k.com/

Right on the front page...... SSBM. Nuff said. And I guess its comparable to VF5, and T5 also since its played at the same tournaments with a fan base just as big as both of those games. The game is somewhat balanced, and high level play actually does take a good degree of skill.

So far, your only making yourself look like an arrogant meat head in this thread... not good dude.

This is seriously sad. You've just lost any credibility you ever had.

It is not a fighting game because it does not have the characteristics of a traditional fighting game. It has no life bars. It has no hit ranges. It has simple move execution rivaling that of Mortal Kombat's. In fact, the game's only saving grace is its movement, which, by the way, is not even as advanced as Virtua Fighter's or Tekken's.

The series may be fun. OK. Fine. But that still does not make it a fighting game. Call it whatever you want but it is not a fighting game.

As I said, there is Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter, and fuck even MK (only of which UMK:3 is playable) for the real fighting gamers. You can play SSB all day. Just please safe the fighting game genre some integrity, and stop referring to the SSB series as a fighting game. In the end, that's all I can ask from you Wii / SSB fan boys.

Aside from that, was Mario Kart not at Evo as well? It is just a matter of time, folks, until we get some random moron arguing that it's a fighting game because there is some "fighting" involved in it.

Yeah, I'll be rollin' on the Brawl train.

Dave, the only thing I see about Brawl is it's not a traditional fighter, and doesn't utilize life bars or traditional fighter movement. It doesn't go by the traditional fighter setup. But that's ALL I see. The main component of it is fighting, though it lacks some of the stuff you'd traditionally.

Hell, they even have SSB articles set up on SRK.com, which covers fighting games.

Still no word from Dan though. I know he's not narrow-minded and would thoroughly appreciate it/enjoy it.

People, just ignore him, until he replies with shit worth Replying to, then don't even bother with it.

Anyway, I heard they "Nerfed" Fox some, meaning he isn't powerful enough to be the top tier enough, but good enough to be in the mid range and he is now the worst star fox character, which kinda sucks for me, he used to be one of my mains, but from what I hear, Wolf is good enough to be one of the Top, so I could probably convert lol
