ok. none of the characters from the first MK should go, killing off any of those characters would be a bad move by Midway, cuz those characters r the ones that make MK what it is today. Scorpion, Sub-zero (any version), Raiden, Sonya, Kano, liu kang,...( i'm tryin to remember teh select screen but i can't, i'm missing like 2 i think.)well anyway, in my opinion, midway is never gonna kill any of those characters off, and if they do that would be a really stupid move. although i don't really like Kano, but he should still stay for the reason i said earlier.

o and if they let scorpion and sub-zero go, i, amongst many others, will most likely stop supporting the game.

I agree that earthrealm might need new warriors, as Jax and Sonya's sttories are getting old and useless. Earthrealm needs younger and more trained characters to defend the realm and not old geezers.

If it were up to me I'd kill the people who had been in the most MKs and keep the people who've been in the least. People like Sonya, Scorps and Sub Zero would be history. People like Reiko, Jarek and Bo Rai Cho would survive.

However, I believe that no character in MK is truly ever dead and they will eventually bring back everyone for at least two games. There's a couple people who haven't gotten game number 2 yet.

I hate to say this because I kinda like him (and he looks badass in MKD), and besides MKD, he was playable in only one other MK game (Trilogy) but I think it's Ermac's turn to leave the building. Now that Kenshi's around he seems sorta redundant. Plus Kenshi has more story potential, IMO. Who knows, we don't know what's gonna happen between the telekinetic twins in MKD. I just think Ermac's got nowhere else to go after MKD.

Mortal Kombat Deception is probably the apex of Mileena's life, so I doubt she'll be in further games, except if Deception brings an entirely new plot to her in Deception that could be developed after.

At the end of the day it's a fighting game not an RPG.It may have a great storyline going on but that is secondary to the actual gameplaying experience,remove the characters people enjoy playing and it's not as much fun.

Can't wait to see ultra high quality graphics versions of Scorpion,Sub Zero,Liu Kang,Renshi etc in MK7

For example most people buy and play MK because of they want to play a fighting game,whether Scorpion's storyline means he should be out next time defeats why MK is successful-it had characters with great fighting game moves.
If you chuck out Scorpion you can't give the spear move to a new character because then all you will have done is replaced his 3d model with a new one.
No character has reached their potential in what moves could be thought up etc or how they are rendered.

If the past MK characters on the whole were rubbish to play but had a great story we would not even have Deception or MK7 to look forward too.Gameplay comes first.

Well i know it's not a rpg where the story line heavily speaks, but as you know the developers have given mk a heavy storyline that has make the game deeper and deeper, they have based a lot of the game in it's story which makes mk different friom many fighting franchises. As for the next generation the earthrealm must have new fighters.

Honestly, I seriously doubt any of the characters will be gone for good. If anything, they will just be out for a game or two, go into the "database" of MK Characters, and come out of retirement as needed, as they always have.

Well apparently Johnny Cage and Liu Kang are in the new MK movie by the time that is released winter 2005 summer 2006 maybe,it might tie in with MK7 so they may both return.Fine by me as long as they are great characters to play.

Reiko: I hope he NEVER returns in MK again, he is beyond horrible. The whole Reiko/Kahn issue makes people hate him even more. He looks boring, he IS boring, and his story is boring. Nuff said.
Johnny Cage: Another pointless character IMO. Hes just a pure filler and waste, i've always wanted Johnny to die and stay dead. I've never liked Johnny at all, and he doesnt play any kind of a good role.
Tanya: Yup, i dislike her to. The only reason she even exsisted is because they didnt bother to put Kitana in MK4 which was a huge mistake. I think her story is absolutely pointless, and i find her as a pure filler. We've already got Mileena. I hope Tanya dies and never returns.
Bo Rai Cho: Please get rid of him. Jeebus, i dont even find him humerous if hes intended to be that way. Shujinko looks way better as a martial arts trainer. Bo Rai Cho just looks like a lazy fat man that sleeps all day and drinks Lol. I hope we see the last of him in MKD.
Sonya: Even though i dont really mind her, i must say that her story is stale and shes boring. I was never to fond of the whole special forces unit, IMO they dont fit well in the MK universe, nor do they play a major role. She was always boring in my eyes, and to be honest i even like Jax better than her.
Kai: We've already got Kung Lao. Not to mention Subzero and Shujinko. Pointless character IMO, if he ever dies(which i hope) i hope he stays dead.
Jarek: Total copy cat. Somewhat good story, but still. Kano PWNZ you. If Jarek returns i hope he dies.
Li Mei: Theres a possibility that i could change my mind about her. I didnt like her at first at all. She is now involved with the DK, so her story should be SO much better and if it is i'll like her even more. If her story goes downwards again i hope he dies.
STRYKER: Dear Lord. I've always hated stryker......with a passion to. I just cant stand him. Hes supposed to be a cop not a gangster. A cop being in MK period sounds extremely lame. I hope he flat-out DIES!

Well thats actually why i stated those charactetrs up there. Because IMO there not needed for the story to continue or develop anymore. Btw, i forgot 2 more characters that just appeared in my mind.
Liu Kang: Hes already had his chance as champion, its time to turn the title to someone else, like Kung Lao. Also, its been only 1 game and Liu Kang is back already? Thats ridiculous. Regardless if him being what, he should stay dead and never return. I just cant believe they brought him back in MKD when they just killed him in MKDA.
Hsu Hao: I'm praying that he isnt in MKD, though i have a weird feeling about it. Hopefully the MK team comes to there senses and doesnt include him. His design is awful IMO, and his story isnt great. I would rather see another Red Dragon member......that LOOKS better.

Well Dark, i think you're right about pointing out that Liu must not return, he must die and disappear in an honorable way as a true champion and not as a stupid zombie, anyhowm, Characters such as Hsu Hao are jst there to stuff the game, they wanted to invent a rivalry with Jax to make jax more interesting.

I think all the 'space filler' characters that started off lame should go, ie: Hsu, Reiko, Stryker, Nitara, Jarek, Cyrax, Bo, coz they just lack that 'cool' factor and any story to boot.

But as far as stories go:

Reptile: I agree with some of the posters, if he really is the DK then this should be his sayanara.

Sonya, Jax, Kano: things should have just stayed with these three instead of introing stupid side characters and having guys like Cyrax and Kenshi involved. They must be old now and Sonya and Jax need retirement and closure with Kano. It should have ended in MK3.

Cyrax, Smoke, Sektor: the whole cyberninja thing was cool during MK3 with Subbie but its kinda gymicky now, unless they get a complete upgrade in look and story. Cyrax has gone wayward, working for SF and then Nitara and god knows who else. Sektor may still have some 'gas in the tank' but change his look! The BMX helmets were only used as a costume, we got polygons now!

Quan Chi: never sat well, maybe it was the name. Didn't like how they made him out to be the REAL bad ass, though they did it convincingly, its time for the 'lone shamen' to meet his end and never return. Closure for Scorpion aswell.

Scorpion: it really feels like his tale of vengeance is coming to a close, maybe he doesn't need to leave the series at all but walk a new path, maybe as a defender or assassin for the Elder Gods?

Sindel, Tanya, Kitana, Mileena, Jade: Deception really centers around these girls this time and could be a perfect way to finish all their stories at once in a climatic battle with the DK. And bring in some new blood.

Rayden: The Thunder God has been relenquishing his position as elder god, retaining it, committing his spirit, defending it, watching on, etc for the entire serious now. I like him as a kind of 'Obi Wan' but not as a fighter anymore.

Johnny Cage: time to settle down, remarry, and start a family.

hmmmm there's a lot there that may anger some people but all in all I think MK7 should be a complete overhaul and go back to the drawing board, less characters and more in depth stories, moves, etc. Introduce new fighters to take to your heart ala the original MK.

But keep:

Subzero, Kung Lao, a revitalized Scorpion, Shang Tsung, Baraka, a reshaped Sektor, Noob Saibot, Kabal, and SHAO KAHN!!!

Johnny Cage: just stay dead. if not, then become like Steven Segal and become a buddhist, become conservative, and retire. live a hollywood lifestyle for once.

Li Mei: personally, i never liked her. her story in MK:DA has similarities to that of Chun Li of street fighter.

Hsu Hao: to tell u tha truth, i liked his moves and his fatality, somewhat. but leave him dead or at least leave him in hiding.

Reptile: let him become the dragon king for atleast 1 more series after deception, then let him die a death that would impact the MK world forever. get a new boss & new sub-boss.

Kitana: either have a story that would impact every character, or die a sad sad death. let the other females (tanya, jade, mileena) have a chance to shine.

Kano: he killed sonya in his ending, now please, retire as a washed-up assassin/backstabber or just disappear for a long long time.

Shang Tsung: let there be a new sorcerer, not quan chi because he pissed me off.

Scorpion & Sub-Zero: keep them, regardless of them being in most of every MK game in history and always having the same agenda. an MK game without Scorpion and Sub-Zero is not an MK game at all. in my point of view, Liu Kang didnt make MK the series it is today, Scorpion and Sub-Zero did. they were the two most original characters of their time and are still today. they were exciting to play as. suer, Liu Kang was kool, but to me, he was nothing more than the typical hero who could never be defeated, despite all the people anxious in killing him. so yea, keep sub zero & scorpion.

Kabal: he has a lot of f|_|ckin potential. he doesnt have the qualities to either be good or bad. you could change his story and alliance to be on the good side or the evil side and he still would kick ass. he's the anti-hero i always wanted in this game, sorta like Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z.

Smoke: my favorite cyborg and favorite human ninja before scorpion and sub-zero but after ermac, noob, and rain. keep him and just revamp his story a little more, thats all.

Rain: One of my favorite ninjas. i like his moves and he has a lot of potential. and also, for all u homophobic people out there, purple is a color of royalty, even snoop dogg said that. all u got to do is revamp his whole look, move system, and give him a larger role in MK and a more exciting story. whatever alliance he claims, i can really care less.

Noob: another one of my favorite ninjas. nothing to really change except for his look a little bit, and give him a better weapon, a scythe perhaps.

Frost: could very well be Sub-Zero's replacement. it would be hot to have a female lead in the Lin Kuei (i dunno how to spell it).

Drahmin: he could have some potential if you could give him more speed and agility and a better story, a story that gets more into his past which would affect his present and future.

Fujin: earth needs a new protector. please give him a larger role and new look.

Ermac: my numero dos favorite ninja. keep him. it would be kool to see him switch alliances from time to time.

Jade: could be the temporary replacement for Kitana. why do i say 'temporary replacement'? because knowing what happens in the MK world, nobody ever stays out of retirement. everybody always tends to pull off a Michael Jordan stunt and stay in and out of retirement from time to time.

Tanya & Mileena: they make the sexiest, deadliest, and most seductive duo in this game. dont underestimate the power of a female.

Kung Lao: atleast give him a better look and story. in my opinion, he was boring to me in MK:DA.

Kenshi: i love his moves and his story. they should let him use the sword of his ancestors, the red glowing one.

Sektor: keep him most definitely. his new story and status, it's bananaz! just give in a totally revamped look in which he has no similarities to cyrax, meaning moves and weapon, expecially his look.

Nightwolf: he is pretty original in my opinion. keep him and just 'up' his story more and atleast change his costume to a more native american look, atleast give him a native american chief/shaman look. also, a better fatality would be good.

Reptile-If he is the DK, then it should end here.. his story always was the Egore like "yes... MASTER" crap.. and now he's his own boss.. that would be a great ending for him

Johnny Cage-send the damn movie star home.. I was never really a fan of Johnny Cage.. he was an intresting character in the beginning.. but now the whole "yay I saved the world.. that would make a great movie" gig is getting old.. Kill him off..

Jax & Sonya-neither of them should come back.. first of all I never really liked the special forces gimmick.. it was cool at first.. but they are both gettin pretty old now... juss get rid of them

Liu Kang-.... need I say more.. he's dead.. already

Sub-Zero-it pains me to say this.. but this particular subbie looks like he's gettin really old.. I think he should retire.. or become like a trainer for new Lin Kuei recruits and let Smoke Take over(I'm a big Smoke fan, lol)

I agree with you dude, but I must say, that even though I am not especially a fan of Scorpion nor Sub Zero, they just MUST stay in the game. They represent Mortal Kombat probably more than any other characters. It wouldnt be MK w/out them.

Ermac, Nightwolf, Kabal and Smoke are the old ones that are the future ? Yeh, I totally agree with you for this too, but I would also add these two:
Baraka: Although he's pretty old (MK2), he was underused and has great potential as he's a loner like Scorpion.
Kenshi: I never "liked" him that much, but hey, he's unique enough to deserve to stay. And he also represent the future of the special forces.
He also has a developed storyline that makes him in touch with many characters (Shang Tsung, the Special Forces)

My thoughts about my favorite character:
I hate to say it, but Deception gives Mileena so much importance, that (if good triumph again), I'm afraid she won't be part of the next MKs. In Deception, she achieves her goal and gets a big part, so I'm afraid they'll concentrate on other characters in future games since they gave her a glorious role once.

So, the majority of the posters here in the next MK would axe every character from MK1, which leads to over half the characters from MK2, and about half from MK3?

I don't understand, Boon and Co. always gives us atleast 6 new characters every game right? That's more than any other fighter out there. Not to mention every returning character is always, at the very least, given a new move or two and a change made to their appearence.

This will never happen anyway. Why would they cut their franchise characters in Sub-Zero and Scorpion? That would be like the next Street Fighter not having Ryu and Ken, it is just not a smart business decision.

Liu Kang is dead, leave it that way. It's about time some one who died, stays dead. But they should not go around cutting characters that they know will draw buyers, just so they can make a game with nothing but new characters that might not sell a damn thing.
