I think this thread is asking the wrong question. The question is what characters will the MK team want to include in the next game (after Scorpion & Sub-Zero). Many people wouldn't buy an MK game without Scorps & Subby. Boon has said this. Their stories aren't ending. Their stories are butkus they throw in at the end of the day & they make about as much sense as something a kid would think up.

Wishing an MK character dead is useless. Nothing you can do to an MK character will finish them. Even when you do FINISH HIM or HER!, they always come back for the next round or game.

johnny cage, jax and sonya cause there's no room for the special forces imo, and johnny cage in terms of story is a 0 and he's getting boring

kano should step aside forever, dead

kai, shinnok, reiko, jarek, hsu hao, drahmin because of the lame factor

I agree with u guys on reptile, he was cool as a ninja, but in mk4 his design sucked, and in mkda, his face was too comical imo, so I guess that now, since he probably is the dk, I guess he should finish in his prime

shang tsung, I really never liked him, and I guess since there's a possibility of the deadly alliance being dead, they should let him dead

all those shokans, never liked them either, goro's dead, kintaro's dead, sheeva's dead, period

finally I guess that characters like stryker, cyrax, fujin, li mei, nitara, bo rai cho and kitana should have one last appearence, for a good finish

I really love scorpion and sub zero, but they can't be around forever, but mk without isn't mk, so I guess midway does mk7 and then mk is no more *cries*

I agree with you guys in some of the people that must not appear again, but what if Midway decides to tottally revamp the next isntallment not including anyonw from p ́revious games (only sub and scorp), would that make fans enraged?

I could actually see that happen, the DK could have defeated the Earthrealm warriors and either killed them or sent them into hiding. Fast forward 50 years. Almost all of the original MK characters would be dead. Sub-Zero is still alive and well because the Dragon Medallion made him immortal, he can be killed in battle, but not of old age or sickness (similar to elves in LOTR). Scorpian is still alive because he has not yet gotten his vengeance. Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, and Ermac would also be alive, living off of souls. Sub-Zero and what was left of the old Earthrealm fighters would train a new generation to finally defeat the DK.

Excellent thread that supports my feelings exactly. We have a game that has beena round for over a decade and the characters are getting older and many of them are not immortals or in anyway able to not age. Many of our Human champions are getting older and possibly need to move on with their lives. Retire, or if your already dead Johnny Cage and Liu Kang move on to the afterlife. Many characters, some my favs, have lived their usefulness in their original game like Sheeva and Stryker. Some are a continuing part of the story with each chapter Scorpion and Subzero. I do believe, however, that even these champions are beginning to have limited reasons for being in the game. Scorpion has been given a great story this time around that completely detracts from his typical "revenge" motive. SubZero is IMO the new leader of Earths warriors and has a reason to be around. But Bo Rai Cho? He's a teacher and could be used better in that fashion and not as a combatant. don't bring him back. Hsu Hao or however you spell it....I don't understand his real original reason for being in the game....not needed. With Kira in the game though who knows. MK:D is my most anticipated game so far because I feel it is evolving Mortal Kombat once more and bringing our characters to a new place (Raiden, Reptile, Mileena, Baraka, Jade, Sindel) and hopefully brining closure to some unnecessary ones. But no character is necessarily gone forever in the MK universe. Maybe it's time to start.

I honestly think that some characters need to retire. Not because they've been in almost all the games and are getting annoying, because their connectivity with the story just needs to be either fulfilled or they retire because they raise up a new hero for themselves sorta like a kid version of them, but not them. Some of the characters deserve to be removed by death, or victory, or retirement, or of being here for a long time span.

Now, if we decide on removing scorpion or subzero, imagine what the game would feel and look like.
It just wouldn't be called mortal kombat.
They're the main characters that support this game.
MK would lose many fans just because of this.
there are many great characters out there as well, but none capture the true mk spirit than these guys.
If we had to remove a lot of characters, including scorp and sub, then why not recreate the future of mk, and lose even more fans.
It's kinda pointless removing a lot of the characters.
But, if you are doing this to some of them, why not have a new character tie into and relate with them.

Maybe this could be the end of Kitana? or just the beginning with liu kang? they rise to take control over everything again? but then you never know, with mk7 comin out and all, this may not be so true.
Reptile's story i think is great for him, to end him as a boss who was always the servant.
Kitana could end up dying or sindel dies and gives kitana her place, or if they both die, mileena or jade made good be given the princess of edenia title.
Sonya, and Jax are getting a bit old, but maybe one of them could depart and leave it in the hands of jax..ahem..jax could take control of the special forces by himself with recruits like kenshi and cyrax and quite possibly have a new character(s) come in to equal out the situation.
Johnny Cage...well, he has died too many times, i think that he should just retire instead of dying again. He should be more involved with his movies instead of fighting, that's what he was supposed to be doing, not to fight for a tournament.
i know he got there accidentally as well..
Shang Tsung should retire, but still be connected through the story of future mk.
He should be taken over by someone else more powerful, and shang should be held captive in a prison at the top of a tower where his powers are useless and completely dry, as he gets older and older he loses his mind.

It could all be so simple if you would want to recreate mk.
But then, i don't know who'd want it.
Here goes:
The elder gods just hate the idea of the world being in such disarray. They decide to shock the world with a huge comet that crushes everyone. Some people survive, for example monks and unknown warriors who were trained by monks. Scorpion would survive,cause of his spectre attributes. and Subzero could survive if he was to also be made into a spectre.
The dragon egg would still remain hidden across the world giving birth to a new dragon king.
and from there he'd build his army.
Scorpion and Subzero would turn out to help each other out. But then, both of them being alike now, scorpion didn't like the fact that he had someone equal to himself, he'd depart and head off in different directions. Scorpion realized that it is pointless to keep evil in the world, and would go onto help out the good as the civilians were at a minimum, and somebody needed to save the world from danger again, as subzero would see this, he didn't like the fact of scorpion trying to take over his place, so he didn't want to be like him, so instad he went off to get revenge on him, and joined the forces of evil alongside the new dragonking.
This could recreate a new name for mk
Mortal Kombat: Spectral Domination
or Mortal Kombat: Spectre vs Spectre

Both of them being spectres now, subzero helped the side of evil by creating an army of spectres with the aid of his freezing power, he gave his army power of ice and spectre and dragon. Subzero taught his army to fight with his dragon stance.
And the new dragonking would appoint subzero as assistant to hunt down the good.

Scorpion becoming good now, would find it hard for himself to go against subzero. The side of good had completely vanished, but there were still only a couple of resources left, but hard to find.

So...Scorpion could begin his quest to search for allies to help him rid the world of subzero and evil, while Subzero tries to do the opposite with the help of the newly made dragon king and their army to rid the world of good.

Sorry, i went into this story mode, just thought what mk would be like if you'd get rid of everyone, except scorpion and subzero, it'd still be a good game, but it'd feel much different.

I am a fan of classic characters, for they are the ones that brought the game to its fame and glory of today. To me they built the base for the MK series, and they should not be forgotten. Classic characters like Sub-Zero, Kano, Sonya, Scorpion, Raiden, Liu Kang, and Reptile. These characters should always have a spot in an MK game, they are the ones who gave the game it's unique quality compared to the other games. All the other games had un-original characters. And now it is getting hard to think of new characters and storylines, and that is when classics come in handy. All you have to do is think of a storyline part for them in the current story and remake their appearance with little alterations and Bam! New characters are good, but classics deserve to take up 3/4 of the game. Some guys like Jerek etc. that are just put in to replace one of the classic characters and use their moves(Kano) do not deserve to come back. They really did not have a storyline purpose other than to subsitute one of the old characters. Characters are a big part of the game, and if you do not chose the right ones, you can really lose fans that are new to the series that don't care for the characters that are used in the game. Characters that fans do not like(Stryker, Bo Rai' Cho, Mokap, Meat) should not be included neither. Although everyone can't get what they want it, since we all have different opinions on characters, we should all atleast try to accept the new characters. And that is why we have classics, so that people can use the characters that they grew to like while playing the classic MK's in the Arcades. And then there are the characters that keep coming back after they die(Johnny Cage, Shang Stung), which that should never happen in the first place due to they have had their chance and they need to stay dead when they are said to be dead.

Here is my list of characters that should not return anymore:

-Stryker
-Jarek
-Mokap
-Bo Rai' Cho
-Shang Stung
-Johnny Cage
