WuShu, Shaolin Kung Fu, regular Boxing, Capoeira, and I used to know alot more styles, that aren't in MK: DA but I forgot them. They would all be good for MK6.

Save a life; Kill a necromorph
Remember his Hand Stance, In Caperoia it has a lot of Handstances and powerful kicks.
wushu
boxing
kickboxing
krav maga
pankration
capeoira
monkey kung fu
lau gar
choy lee fut
white eyebrow
kendo
arnis
hwrang-do
goju-ryu karate
isshin-ryu karate
shotokai
pa kua (not ba gua, but the other one)
loads more the list could go on.....
i made an idea of the engine in mk6 - here it is:
Reversals should be taken out completly, its too cheap. instead, as midway has focused on styles, they should focus on style orientated defense.
for example karate uses various parries for defense.
snake kung fu will snake shaped hand movements for defense. eagle claw will use acrobatics.
wing chun uses simaltenous attack/block.
jujitsu will use more joint locks that would temporarily disable his/her opponents kick or punch and force them to use other techniques until the blood flows back into that limb.
wrestling/aikido would use more throws.
boxing will uses parries and ducking.
characters will react accordingly to different techniques.
for example, I
Lets us the scenario of sub-zero doing a roundhouse kick, here some possible defenses:
Cage(Jeet Kune Do) would use a sweep as as subbys kick comes around.
Kitana(Eagle Claw) would use a backflip, eagle claw being the acrobatic style that it is.
Cyrax(Ninjitsu) and Kano(Aikido) would roll away, falling backwards.
Jax(Muay Thai) would duck under the kick.
Raiden(Jujitsu) would apply a joint lock on subs leg, not making sub lose enrgy but simply making him limp and render his leg helpless for a few seconds forcing him to use hand techniques instead.
Quan Chi(Escrima) would strike his back quickly as subzero spins.
Cage(Karate) would parry and move to the side of subzero.
etc
you get the general idea, it would be sweet to do so.
And instead of holding the block button, it would be about timing instead, you have to time pressing block to effectively defend. it would bring much better gameplay, and it would also seem like a martial art movie too.
Let me give u guys another example,
Scorpion's sweep -
Mavado(wing chun) would simply raise his front leg to avoid contact.
Shang Tsung(Snake) would jump over scorpion's legs.
Sonya/mokap(Tae Kwon Do) would jump over scorpion's legs and strike him in the face whilst in the air.
Kitana(eagle claw) may flip over scorpion behind him.
scorpion(hapkido) somersault in the same position avoiding contact (much like scorpion did when fighting kung lao in mkconquest)
There is so much varety and the styles itself would amaze the player and it would feel as if he really using tae kwon do, eagle claw etc.
Another example
Kung Lao using a mantis punch (attack1)-
Shang Tsung(snake) would use snake like hand movements to parry the mantis punch.
cage(Jeet Kune Do) would use footwork and move backwards or to the side.
mavado(wing chun) would use the simaltaneous attack/defense found in wing chun.
Raiden(Jujitsu) would apply an armbar as the punch comes in, not neccessarily disable it but the jujitsu style of parrying.
Kano(Aikido) woud use circular hand movements much akin to steven seagal movies to throw his opponents on the floor, hence (neutralising his opponents).
Reptile(Hung Gar),Nitara(Leopard and Fu Jow Pai) would use claw like hand movements to parry the punch
etc.
More variety in finishing stances, I hated seeing everyone doing the same thing in DA.
Different throws from different angles. So if you perform a throw from the left, right or behind an opponent it would do something different then their standard forward facing throw.
More and better fatalities, I was very disappointed by the lack of and quality of the fatalities in DA.
Imagine seeing Sub-zero with crab or Scorpion with Drunken Fist! The possibilities would be endless!
At least not straightaway but as a unlockable feature

That would be a great unlockable feature.
I think each character should be able to choose two from a list of three hand to hand styles and one of two weapon styles per character. For example, Scorpion could choose two out of Hapkido, Pi Gua, and Ninjitsu, and then either Ninja Sword or Double Axe.
As far as changes to MKDA fighting styles, styles like Aikido, Judo and Jujitsu should be more defensive. Also Tae Kwon Do should incorporate at least a couple hand attacks; I know it's mainly kicking but I'm sure it's not entirely restricted to it.

I have study Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo While I was in Californa with the Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo Grandmaster Lee.
Well If you want to know a reliable style of Taekwondo is Moo Duk Kwan or Choong Sil Kwan Taekwondo.
I am a 3rd Brown belt in Choong Sil Kwan Taekwondo and I do just know four forms and a few drills of Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo.
Well I dont know when I am going back, But I am still Training regardless.
Dim Mak is called Death Point Striking and it has three levels of Techiques and they are Knockout, Death point striking, and Delay Death Point striking.
That is a Kung Fu style which I want to take.

I used to do Tae Kwon Do long ago, Im a Red+black belt, but I never heard of brown. I mean, I know there is but Im not sure if I did any especific style relative of TKD or just TKD.....is Warando a style? Cause that was the name of the place where I used to do TKD, so, It might as well be a style or something.

depending on the number of characters and depending on which characters should determine what sort of fighting styles they should have and the number of fighting styles they should have. One thing that I would want is for some hand to hand style/weapon mix. A couple weeks back, I watched a bit of this movie about ninjas. They were using Koga Ryu style Ninjitsu and they combined their fighting with hand to hand and weapon attacks as well as acrobatic and stealthy techniques.

Well a Scorpion Kungfu fighter does fight like a Scorpion and Scorpion should fight similar to his Namesake. Plus he has the power of the Scorpion(hint hint His Harpoon is his verison of the Scorpion's Tail).
His Fire power is like Scorpion's vemon, Painful and burning.

IS there a Scorpion style of Kung Fu? Because I've never heard of it...but of course, I'm no martial arts expert or anything...

DeadlyFrost6 Wrote: As a 1st degree black belt in TKD and HKD i should know that the game DOES NOT represent the styles correctly. Of course the style are accurate but not very in depth. Hapkido has a lot more joint locks and strikes than blocks and kicks which is represented nicely, but forgeting a couple of difficult moves. TKD is so in depth that not all the moves could be put into it. BTW TKD does have an uppercut and a roundhouse kick. there is also a butterfly kick, Spinning kicks, and 360 motions. if they could go more in depth of each style instead of a generalized idea, that would make the gameplay a easier and a lot more fun. |

Also, I have seen a special, maybe home-made style, called Assassination (assassin art). Strike attacks are used in this form and counter grabs.
In Tekken 4, Nina uses this style a bit, mixed with Aikido.

XcarnageX Wrote: I have a question for anyone who practices any of the fighting styles used in MKDA: are the stances, in the basic sense of standing position, accurate as portrayed in the game? For example, Snake, Tang Soo Do, and Dragon are, in the game, very cool-looking stances, but is that really what they look like or did Midway change them for superficial purposes? |
I'm not a martial artist myself but the way they do some of the fighting styles has accuracy to the styles in real life but other fighting styles in MKDA don't seem to have much resemblence to their real life counterparts. I have a book about some of the martial arts styles and I saw some Pi Gua and Dragon stuff and it did resemble the stuff from MKDA.
