The Weapon and Chi Focus

I was thinking back to MKDA and remembered the power ups. Most were very powerful whilst others were weak. They were balanced in a sense, but Nitaras was overpowered! Quans was ridiculously powerful too. My ideas, the Chi Focus and the Weapon Focus, allows any player to gain a power up, but its not too powerful or too weak. Also, they have other effects. Both tap into the inner strength or energies of the player or their weapon. I guess this is similar to SC2s Soul Charge.

During the Chi Focus, the character would summon their inner strength and have certain abilities enhanced. Also, I think itd be cool if they glowed a little or something, but only slightly. Ermac could have a green soul filled aura around him. The electricity running around Raidens body would increase and act violently. Scorpions body could set aflame and Subs body could become encased in ice slightly or an icy haze could surround him. These things would indicate the increased power and give a powerful feel.

Effects of the Chi Focus:

Attack increase: Your attack power increases slightly raising your damage percentage.

Speed increase: Your speed increases slightly.

No block damage: You receive no block damage as your aura repels attack damage.

Jump increase: Your jumping abilities increase. You can jump higher and farther.

Chi Ball: A huge, fast, unblockable projectile is thrown by your character. However, using this will cause you to instantly come out of the Chi Focus and you are unable to use the Chi Focus again for the rest of the match.

Characteristics of the Chi Focus:

Chi Aura: The body glows or becomes encased in souls etc as above. Gives that more powerful feel.

Only Unarmed Styles: The Chi Focus only increases damage in your unarmed styles for several seconds.

The Weapon Focus is the same as the Chi Focus only you tap into the characters weapons heart and unleash its power. Again, therell be a glow around the weapon to indicate the power increase. There is a drawback to the Weapon focus. You cannot leave your weapon style whilst it is activated. Bonuses include several fun side effects!

Effects of the Weapon Focus:

Attack Increase: Your attack power increases raising your damage percentage.

Weapon Brake: For bladed weapons, a strong blow can destroy a Stage weapon!

Stun: For non-bladed weapons, you can stun the opponent temporarily.

No block damage: You receive no block damage whilst guarding with your weapon. Its aura repels damage.

Parry: You now have the option to parry weapon attacks for a short time.

Projectile Demolition: This will work in one of three ways. Firstly, you can deflect projectiles into the surroundings and away from you. Or, your weapon can absorb them. The aura of the weapon would destroy the projectile. Or you could cut the projectile in half and watch as both halves fly by either side of you. The last one is probably unrealistic and wouldnt happen but itd be cool to see.

Characteristics of the Weapon Focus:

Weapon Aura: Your weapon glows indicating its increased power.

Weapon only: You cannot switch to your hand to hand styles whilst the Weapon Focus is active. It lasts for several seconds.

So what do you think? And do you have any ideas to add to these?
Sounds Great! I really like the Stage Weapon Brake idea

Thanks dude! I was going to have the weapon break normal weapons but that would be too cheap, so I decided to limit it to the stage weapons.

Those are some kiss-arse ideas. The Chi Power-Up reminds me of the Ki Build up from DBZ Budokai.

It'll be also cool that if you get your chi up to a certain level, your projectiles could be more powerful and hard to manover around (This would take up some chi)

Good stuff T. I love the idea about whilst charged, they have a cool individual glow.

Also, it might get abit annoying if your opponent keeps repeatedly charging up when they have the opportunity. Therefore, I think you should have a maximum of say....3 charge-ups a round? Maybe...

This is probably the most well-thought out post I have EVER read on these forums.

They are fantastic ideas, and yes, it is very reminiscent of the DBZ Budokai game.

good idea..i also think that u should be able to use all ur chi power when its filled up to throw a large powerful wave projectile thats unblockable, but the down side will have to be that u take awhile to summon up all that power that u can not block hits that come ur way... basically the wave projectile will be a large wave that comes from where u r standing and takes up the whole screen, making it unblockable..only way to not get hit by it is by either sending ur own "wave projectile" or jumping/teleporting behind ur attacker.. u only can try it once and u lose anyway to gain more chi power during the match...

Thanks man. I like the idea of the limit! I think that'd make it fairer. ALthough there would be a lag time of some time length after using the Focuses so as to prevent abuse.

Thanks! I meant to add a projectile attack. I've added one now. I like your idea. The stun move would come in handy in getting the time to build up your projectile.

The size of the projectile would be great too! I added on my idea that using it would prevent the user from using the Chi Focus for the rest of the match! Is that what you meant at the end of your post?

Thanks for the compliments, dude! I've played DBZ Budokai and hated it. I think I saw this charge move done, but never known or saw what it did. I'm surprised this idea is similar. I wouldn't want anything from that game in MK!

Nice premise, but by god I don't want it like Soul Calibur, where you're a sitting duck while using Soul Charge.

I hated that. Maybe the aura of the charge could repel all attacks mainly you invincible until your ready for attack.

hehe, you should read his other posts then (you can find them in his sticky at the top of the page and since they are stickied feel free to reply)...That's our little tgrant always coming up with kickass ideas!

Tg, I love this...especially on the weapon side. And the increased jumping ability and Chi ball are nice touches too. You've done it again man...nice work.

Also I like how you gave each scenario it's downside as well as it's attributes. Like the fact that if you charge your weapon, you stuck in weapon stance till it wears off. And I would take into consideratin the idea above to have it limited to three charges per round.

I think that of all the ideas that you posted this one has the greates chance of being considered. The Chi and Weapon focus remind me of Tao Feng. Remember, John Tobias came up with that concept, and if he and Boon are the same project then it has a good chance of making it in. The Chi focus idea is great, it would come in handy if your character had their limbs broken and you could use it to repair them.(One of the interviews said that the weapons can now slice limbs so that's what I'm going on.)
The weapon focus reminds me of the Reaver charge in LoK:Defiance. Both Kain and Raziel could power up their reavers after "feeding them" enough souls or blood. The reavers became more devestating and they had either an aura or power surge coursing through them when fully charged. This would let them unleash special moves.

Your ideas remind me of two of the best games I've played this year, and I hope that you keep coming out with more of them.

I've always thought about things like this being in MKD, and i was going to make a thread about it as well but i just never got around to doing it.

While i LOVE the idea, IMO every character shouldnt have these. Personally, i like every character to have there own uniqueness. Increasing stats, power, and such seems like something that would go great with Ermac, since hes more of a tricky type character.

Apart from increasing abilities and such, i also think there should be certain fire balls and moves that decrease your opponents abilities. An example of this would be like:

- Ermac could have a move called the "Teleknetic disable" where he disables his opponents weapon for a short period of time.

- Reptiles acid spit could stun his opponent. Also, his acid spit could have a 1 in a 10 chance of lowering the opponents defense for a bit.

- Cyrax's net could have a 1 in a 10 chance of lowering the opponents speed.

- Noob Saibot could have an attack that lowers his opponents attack power for a short period of time.

Basically, i want to see characters having moves that can increase there stats, decrease there opponents stats, and cause stat-problems (like stunning, limping, ETC).

An example of a move that could increase your stat would be johnny cages Shadow Kick. There could be a chance where his speed could increase, making him a bit faster in battle.

Granted to this, i would also want to see moves that can change the whole battle scenerio, pretty much challenging your brain. What i mean by this, is that i want to see moves that can increase ONE of your stat but drops another, so heres an example of this:

SEKTOR - Since Sektor has a metal-like body, he could have a move called "harden-up" where his defense increases but his speed reduces.

BARAKA - We all know Barakas a brutal warrior, so he could have a move called "Maximum Rage" where his attack power increases GREATLY, but he sacrifices his health to half, or a little less.

TANYA - She could have a move that increases her speed, but reduces her defense.

I'm sure you know what i mean now by increasing moves, decreasing moves, decreasing your opponents moves, causing stat-problems, sacrificing stats, ETC. IMO characters having moves that could increase there stats and such would be awesome. Tell me what you think, i'll talk more about this later on to.glasses

But I think about a Chi Gauge, where you Chi power will be charged a bit everytime you attack or get hit. Like in Street Fighter or something like that!

Thanks man! Nitaras powerup was overly powerful and could end a round in 3 seconds! I don't want the Chis like that. You can play around and have a little more fun that way.

Exactly what do you mean by mixing the Chi with some Fatality enhancements?

Great ideas, bro. smile I think the chi focus is a nice alternative to the super bar(which is dated since the time of street fighter). I think the addition will give the characters more distinction, and prevent one character from dominating.

The idea works well for the MK enviroment. I could imagine Subzero having a cold air aura, and Scorpion emanating flames. grin
