This is starting again.
I really respect Ed Boon for make the game of my life. Mortal Kombat. That is all. 2D, 3D, adventure, chess, puzzle, I don't mind it. As long as it comes. Having 60 characters is great, because you can play with your favorite. That is all of every MK fan asked. And the most important thing is that Midway is trying to do a good game and a fun game. Every people do errors. No game is perfect.

It's called selling a product. ANYBODY is going to make their game sound incredibly awesome to sell it. It's a marketing strategy. So it's not just the likes of Ed Boon, it's everybody. EVERYBODY will make their game sound better than the other's just so it'll grab people's attention. That's why spiffy trailer's are made. They try to live up to expectations. If you read the interview like you said, then you'd obviously know they are doing a lot of what fans wanted this time around, INCLUDING doing lots of testing to find and work out bugs before we get the game itself in our hands. If anything, he's FIXING MK, not ruining it.

Usually, an MK game hardly has ANY testing done to it compared to the likes of other games. This time, if you read the article, you'd see Boon say that they are doing MUCH MORE testing this time to make sure they get things right. Stop being so damn negative. It's OK for constructive criticism but you're taking it to an all new level. Actually, you're not even using constructive criticism, you're just complaining. Of course the game play isn't going to look up to par yet. Why should it? The game don't come out until October. It's now February and most of those scenes were probably made in early February/late January. If you honestly expect to see what the final product will look like NOW then you're in the wrong month, dude.

It may be a good one but it isn't exactly valid, is it? I mean, that's the only in game action we've seen yet and it's still way beyond the point of E3 and playing the game ourselves so we can't REALLY say for sure that Boon has once again failed, even when they are doing most of what most fans wanted this time, like more testing for mistakes. Even if MK is below a lot of other games, MK still has done stuff other games have not, so no, it is NOT at stage one, it's just doing things differently. Is it one of the best fighting games out there? No, of course not. But it's still one of the most interesting and unique, which makes it stand out none-the-less. There's always time for change, and I'm betting MK will be around 10 years from now still going strong.

Personally, I think this game is going to "own" from what I can see from it so far!!!
Boon is doing a good job in my book!!! Some people need to be kept in check. However, people do not have to agree with one another, and have a right to voice their opinions.... Tactfully!!!!

Well I'm not really one of the fans who eats out of Boon's hand, but the reason I'm very excited about this game is all the thought Boon talks about that they've put into this thing. Like listening to the fans about doing more testing to find bugs and glitches, concentrating more on gameplay than "diversions" like arial kombat/KaK/cleaning it up, all the characters, a re-vamped looking Konquest. The list of things so far going right for this game is much longer than what I saw for Deception at this point.

Truely, these are the opinions of one of the greatest literary minds of our time.
While I don't think people have a right to out and out insult the guy, I don't blame them at all for not taking his opinions seriously.
Not that I'm saying that the man doesn't have a right to his opinion... just that... an opinion tends to have more weight when it's expressed in like... complete sentances... even just complete words would have been nice.
I'm not usually a grammar-nazi when it's like, a few typos, or a misplaced word or incorrect phrasing, because everyone does that... but this is just ridiculous.
Thus, a possibly valid opinion is buried alive underneith piles and piles of ebonics and exclamation points.

An opinion should be judged by what is said rather than how it is said, don't be lazy and take an extra minute reading what he's written.

I half agree with Kenshimater16 and half with Digital_Assasin.
Yes there's nothing wrong with making your own game seem like the best in the world but on the other hand he could've easily continued talking about what is good about his own game, such as an example of this so-called testing his team is doing, how it is being done etc. rather than taking cheap-shots and attempting to look down upon superior games.
eg. Introducing parries that these so-called uninnovative game series have had since PS1 days.

Kinda OT from this topic, not really, anyways, I know MK:DA outsold it's competition, what about MKD, how did it do against it's rivals?
yea it was funny. not your comment about ed boon, but about the mk selling part. it was funny becasue all these so called "hardcore" fighting fans that want mk to be like other games cant stand the fact that mk does outsell all those other games. get over it.
im sure ed thinks its funny as well, and hes probably laughing all the way to the bank.

We've all known Boon is clueless and out of touch with reality. We didn't need another interview to understand this. *shrug* Can I give him props for trying new things? Sure, but I'd rather he get down the actual fighting game before adding useless shit like Puzzle and Chess Kombat. Whatever though, his blindness does not surprise me.

It sucks that when you measure other fighting games sales, you don't measure their arcade income... their MAIN source of money.
It's nice for Ed to say that his game outsold others in the console area, but it's also puzzling when you know that 90% of the people who play VF in other countries that play VF didnt buy the console version at all. They only spend hella money on the arcade. And in Japan, it costs $1 per match... think about it. The average VF player in Japan has played over 3000 matches. I've used more money on Tekken 5 in the arcades than Ive used to buy the console version by at least 3 times and Im only an average T5 player.
Now do you think that Midway's numbers hold...? Not really. It's just smart marketing to make you think other games don't make as much money, when in fact they do.
Factor in the fact that Midway has to release their games on several consoles to be able to sell well and its no wonder. If you look at sales, SC2 and MKDA sold nearly the same amount. Except SC2 was also churning in big money for the arcades worldwide as well, well over their console sales. Both of those games were multi-console, which is why they sold so well. In comparison, if you compare just Tekken 5 to MKDA sales on consoles, Tekken 5 sold about 70% as much as MKDA on sales. Except Tekken 5 only came on PS2 whereas MKDA came on multiple consoles. Now add Tekken 5's arcade play (which is hella huge again), and T5 easily makes more money than MKDA.
Marketing is of course, always skewed. They never tell you all the facts. Like Midway boasts how MK is a best selling franchise. They dont tell you that there has been like 20-30 MK games that have been released on multiple consoles and handhelds. Vs competitors who keep their shit exclusive. Like Tekken has only released like what, 6-7 games compared to MK's 20-30 and Tekken still makes a comparable amount. Puzzling? You bet.

You do realise that the only place that Mortal Kombat outsells its competition is the USA, right?
Who cares? USA is still the main place to sell games; Japan a close second. There's a reason Halo is still around, even though it is pretty much ignored in Japan. MK is still a million seller, and it has sold in the long run as many copies as many other high-profile games (like Soul Calibur 3, Dead or Alive 3, Virtua Fighter 4.) The only modern fighting game to truly surpass it in the American market is Tekken. But, MK still has a very decent fan-following in Japan as well (I'm from Japan and it has its comfortable niche from my understanding.) Selling a game still doesn't determine its worth, but much of what Boon said IS true. Don't most games just throw in more characters, say it's "3" instead of "2", and depend on the game's name to get them bucks? Sure, the game may be good, but few, few, few games really evolve like MK has (for better or worse.) Soul Calibur 3 is a great game, but it's almost exactly like Soul Calibur 2. Tekken 4 is a lot like Tekken Tag. There's not a lot of evolution, and many people are comfortable with that. I am to a degree, but, whether MK succeeds or fails, at least they try something different with each new installment, and I respect that. I think that it has paid off, and this game will be no different. But, I think it's wise to withhold judgment on THIS game and its creators until one actually plays it.

Not neccessarily true. In Sweden, Mortal Kombat seems to be the most liked game. I know that because, i have never seen a MK game in the stores, it's usually always sold out. Everyone talks about it, wherever i go. Even grown-ups.

Actually its quite the opposite. In case you haven't been paying attention, MK's hardcore fans having been the ones doing all the bashing of the series as of late, citing its broken combos, endless plotholes, etc. The average gamer on the other hand can't seem to get enough; the recent games have sold by the millions, glitches and all.
I understand annoyance for the recent games shotcomings, but you didn't really expect the game's creator to come on an interview and start openly bashing his on product for its shortcomings? Of course he's going to jock it, bashing would only appeal to the hardcore fans who've been upset with it. There's way more average gamers that would simply be put off, then herdcore that would be pleased by such an approach.
One more piece of advice: if you want people to take your opinion seriously you need to drop the "dis game iz du dum shit. It jus dat stupid" talk. Makes you sound like a raving child instead of someone with something actually intellegent to say.
