If you're opponent is really beating you up and you dont want to wait around to retry the match, you should be able to perform a hari kari at anytime. It doesnt make sense to do it at the end of your 2nd round loss. For one thing, you're supposed to be dazed and very weak.

No. A Hari Kari in the middle of a match is not taking honor or saving face from your opponent, its being a (excuse my language) pussy and not wanting your buddy to kick your ass. Half the fun of playing MK is to beat your opponent not once but twice (each round) then killing them off. If you dont want the CPU or a friend beating you, then make it 3 round matches to give yourself more of chance or change the difficulty. Dont take the bitch way out and kill yourself during the fight. This isnt directed towards you by the way, its in general. Just my opinion on the topic...

I agree with you, Doombringer.
But i really want to stress the fact that it should be called HARA KIRI, not HARI KARI!!!

That's a terrible idea.

Hari Kari sounds too much like Harry Carrey, people get the wrong idea. It should be Hara Kiri.
Anyway, a kara kiri done in the middle of a fight seems like a good idea at first, but then you have to think about the assholes that would just use it and ruin your fun.

Ditto for me.

Not with online play. People will do it, just to do it. It would be as annoying as spawn killers and team killers in FPS's.

Personally I think Hara Kari is a stupid idea to begin with. You'll never be able to do a fatality on the computer again. Unless the button combinations are harder than the fatality ones it's gonna suck.

Hara Kiris should come at the end no matter what. DoomBringer is right!! Its pussy style.
I just wonder what the announcers gonna say when you lose... Hmm Ermac Wins HAra Kiri?

I also agree that Hara Kiri in the middle of a match is not a good idea. Not necessarly because of honor or pride, but you have to realize the posibility for abuse. A possible problem that could arise from this is individuals playing on-line initating these a Hara Kiri moves right away, and if done enough, or rather if encountered enough by legitimate players this could cause people to start flame wars. I believe it could have an effect like trainers, and hackers in FPS, and RTS games.
So it's not so much I think your idea is terrible it's just that implementation could become a large issue.

I dont think its a good idea, the hari kari move is intended to liven up the end of the match not as a cowardly escape. Besides most of the fun in P2P battles is the unexpected comeback when you were looking down and out.

Isn't it true that samurais committed suicide in mideival Japan as a show of honor to their superiors? They would do their best during battle, and if they lost, they would kill themselves? I feel it's just the same as in MKD. By saving them for the end, you're basically saying, "I did my best, but I lost. You are a superior warrior, I do not deserve to live." Doing it in the middle of the round, you're just taking the coward's way out. You don't want to be labelled as a coward, do ya?

I'm basically answering my own questions. They committed ritual suicide after battle. More info here, part on suicide in fourth paragraph...

I know, the website and the games use different terms (possibly because the game has a lot of Chinese influence, thus giving us the term used in the game (I hope), and the website I used is about Japan), bit I feel its the same concept.
