So capcom have been on my shitlist for a LOOOOOOOOOONG time and heres why

SF4 ---> SSF4 ---> SSF4AE

MVC3 ---> UMVC3

RE5 ---> RE5GE

It seems they will just keep remaking the same games over and over and over and over and over and over and over and .... okay i'll stop now! But do you get the point and people buying UMVC3 will make seem think "oh okay we CAN continue to bring out half assed games and people will STILL buy them" and it NEEDS to stop fans NEED to tell AND show them they will not buy a below average game and instead of free patchs they give us a whole new game with 12 characters maybe 2 of them are any good IMO.

Anyway thats my little rant done ... Any opinions?

meh.

Those additions aren't what bother me.

It's the release of RE:4 HD which is basically the PC edition put in a box and sold on the 360 and PS3.

It's all about the $$$ Cash money, the companies just want your money and know that the fans will continue to buy their games just because it is an updated version of a series they really like. Same with Nintendo products. Lets see: Nintendo Ds, Nintendo Ds Lite, Nintendo Dsi, Nintendo Dsi XL, Now onto Nintendo 3DS, How many model's do you have to make for the Ds, Man all these companies like you to feel like shit after they release a better version of their product a couple months later. Next will be Nintendo 3DS Lite, Is lighter and has a brighter screen. After that will be Nintendo 3DS Lite XXL. Lol!tongue

They do it because people buy it.

The problem isn't the companies.

Agreed.
When it comes to buying games these days, I tend to wait a while, especially from Capcom. They update their games so often, it's guaranteed that you should never buy their first versions of their flagship titles.

The only game I've liked from Capcom in the last god knows how long was Resident Evil 5. I was happy to spend my money on the extra missions, and extra mercenaries characters.

I was even tempted to get MvC3 just so I could get to play as Jill Valentine, despite her being DLC, until I heard she was already on the disk, just locked away. Kinda put me off them a bit but when it come's to Resident Evil I'll always be a Capcom fan. I just wouldn't be stupid enough to jump through hoops to buy the likes of their Street Fighter games that seem to update and re-sell every couple of months.

Remaking the same game isn't always bad.

In fact, I feel sometimes it needs to be done.

I for one am glad UMVC3 is being released, because the original lacked decent character balance, and 36 characters just ain't enough for a MVC game. The only thing that does bother me about the release is the fact that my two favorite characters, MegaMan and Venom, still aren't in it, and that's just a superficial complaint.

Street Fighter is known for its massive remakes. Many of its characters were birthed through these releases (Akuma, anyone?). As long the games cater to the needs of the players, I see no problem with them.

As for Resident Evil, you got me on that one.

If only they would actually put time and effort into UMVC3 by adding people to match the total of the MVC2 roster. But no... Crapcom has to rush the game just to make money instantly instead of taking the time and adding characters that will attract more people.

And before some people read my above statement and then reply thinking I changed my opinion on the topic of "characters being added to attract more fans"..... No. There is a difference between adding characters in a CROSSOVER game to attract more fans and adding guest characters to a game.

Business wise, Capcom is playing it smart.

As a fan, I consider Resident Evil dead since RECVX. I couldn't give a flying f*** what anybody has to say against that. Ive been with RE since 1996 on PS1. Ive seen the series shine with RE2 and a great follow up with RE3, stay strong with RECVX. then something happened.

Capcom pressures Shinji Mikami out of at least two RE4 betas. "the fog" and "the hookman" versions.

On the gamecube, as a horror game, this looked better than anything even ps3 and xbox360 are throwing out for horror.

"we want more action, a bigger audience is there", said Capcom.

RIP Resident Evil.

Rumor has it RE6 is going to be revealed like sept.15-16 by a source, hopefully hes right. And another rumor has it to be closely tied to RE revelations. I hope this is true. Placing the series once again, in a horror atmosphere.

With the death spiral of a trip that the creative writing for RE has taken, I don't expect it to survive. We'll have bigger action games in interest of sales.

Shinji had it perfect. I can't believe RE4 turned out like This bullshit Instead of...

THIS

or

THIS

sigh.... Just let me go back to This....Please.

I don't mean to sound like a bitch... which I probably will... but if you have a problem with the remakes, then simply don't buy them.

Fact is, Capcom knows people WILL buy them, so they keep making the remakes. So yeah, it's a way to get more cash, and they can obviously get away with it.

WOW That was sad i understand why they .... don't have dlc for MVC3 ... but what about other games they make.

PS: JR you don't sound like a bitch i understand where your coming from its just i feel capcom shouldn't be even able to do this and get away with it without loyal fans becoming ... i don't know UN loyal fans because of how their treated ... example ---> Mega man T_T . Anyway i might get Street fighter x tekken cause i love Poison ONLY IF SHE'S FEMALE!!! but i will wait until all the remakes of it are out then get the best one.

Yo m0seph, you mean like the MK Klassic Skins?

BAM!

Seriously though. I've been too smart for Capcom's game of cash grab. Got SFIV for $20. Eventually got SSFIV for the full price making it the exact price of a proper retail game. Arcade Edition can wait until I get another job and I simply didn't buy MVC3 because it lacked content. UMVC3 looks to write this (retarded) wrong and I'll be getting the game that it was supposed to be for $40. Only complaint? Still gotta buy Jill and Shuma! Still though, I feel the OP.

Why? I'm super super curious. Ultimate Marvel, when you do the math, is a damn good deal.

But that applies to Shuma and Jill. Ultimate Marvel, at least for now, is not withholding new content for DLC. Shuma/Jill is a shame, but that's really it's own issue.

I miss the good ol' days of RE, I really do...But, RE 4 & RE 5, in their own rights, were great games. Thankfully, Revelations and RE 6 are suppose to return to Survival Horror, and so far, Revelations is shaping up quite nicely.

Yes, Capcom love their money, but they are a business and you can only blame the people who keep buying the "rehashes", like Bezou stated.

As far as your examples go:

Super Street Fighter IV was a great addition to the SFIV line, AE....not so much.

Resident 5 Gold Edition was available as DLC, so the Disc version was a bonus for those who didn't buy vanilla RE 5.

Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is a steal in my book. Forget about the 12 additional characters, there's suppose to be new modes and gameplay changes. So that alone is definitely worth the 40 bucks. Though, they should of waited a few more months to release the game, but I'm guessing they didn't want UMvC3 to interfere with Street Fighter X Tekken.

I guess my "final straw" was spending $80 on the Collector's Edition of Street Fighter IV.... only to learn that they expected me to pay them almost an additional $15 for on-disc costumes. Then, they just said "screw it" and released Super Street Fighter IV, making my prior version obsolete. I played it smart, and I knew they'd release a "better" version, and, sure enough, Arcade Edition came out later. And they just announced "ver. 2012" is in the works as a DLC update.

It does sicken me that Capcom shills and whores out their games until they break their saturation point, making me hate the very games I once bought from them, and then charging for updates that are standard in their competitors' games.

Charging people for "friendly fire" in Resident Evil 5's "versus" mode? Charging people for on-disc alternate costumes in Street Fighter? Charging people for on-disc characters in MvC3? Charging people for DIFFICULTY modes in Mega Man 9?

Don't get me started on how Resident Evil 4 is being re-released for the 7th time in since 2005. Yes, I liked RE4. Do I want SEVEN VERSIONS in less than 6 years? No, I don't.

Capcom, to me, is dead. At least the Capcom I know and love.

In the prior generations, they took risks. We got great games, great franchises, bold new original ideas. We had Power Stone, Okami, Killer 7, Devil May Cry, P.N.03, Breath of Fire, Strider, Mega Man Legends, God Hand, Dino Crisis, Onimusha, Maximo, Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, and Final Fight.

What do we have now?

Street Fighter IV (360, PC, PS3), Super Street Fighter IV (360, PS3), Super Street Fighter IV 3D (3DS), Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (PS3, PC, 360)

Resident Evil 4 (Gamecube, PS2, IPhone, PC, Wii, 360, PS3).

Marvel vs Capcom 3 and ULTIMATE Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record (aka, we "pinkie-swear" it's a different game and not just a character swap).

And lots and lots of botched sequels and reboots (Bionic Commando, Lost Planet 2, etc.)

The only "new" game idea from them in a long time was DarkVoid, and that was just a bad game in general.

And yet they sit on their legacy of great franchises and refuse to do anything with them. Quite the opposite, they outright cancel promising games if they can't figure out a way to whore them out.

And that's why the creative geniuses behind Capcom's successes have left. Shinji Mikami. Suda51. Keiji Inafune.

I remember a quote from Keiji Inafune, where he bragged about "getting past the Capcom system", because Capcom's current policy is "only release sequels that are guaranteed success." Inafune said "screw that", and spent money developing demos for brand new games. Capcom told him to drop the projects. He said he would... and just ignored them and kept working on them. They told him to drop the projects again. He said he would... and kept developing. By the time they came around a third time, they had sunk too much money into the project to NOT release the games.... and those games became "Lost Planet" and "Dead Rising", two of the very few original IPs from the past several years that have been successful. And they were promptly milked dry.

He tried to do the same thing with Mega Man Legends 3 and Mega Man Universe... but when he left, nobody was left to stand up to Capcom and defend their games or cheat their system. So the games died. Because Capcom couldn't see a future for the games that enabled them to charge for on-disc costumes, basic features, difficulty modes, or rehash them with annual, incremental updates at full-retail prices.

Again, the Capcom of old was one of my favorite companies. The Capcom of today is the Activision of the East, a greedy, soulless company run by jaded businessmen with no passion for the industry that ran off all their best and brightest talent and creators.

Now, go buy "Shadows of the Damned" if you've purchased any Capcom games in the past 6 months... if only to atone for your sins.

m0 has a valid point though. Paying money to unlock content that is already on your disc is like paying money to use the escape button on your computer.

... and the tournament player who HAS to buy all the characters so he can get decent match-up experience still has to pay $60.00.

MK released downloadable characters, and 100 desync issues later, I wish they had just made Ultimate MK9 with a better net code.

(kinda like what Capcom is doing).
