Part of Marvel's massive "Phase 3" film slate and the third movie in the character's solo series: Captain America: Civil War is coming May 6, 2016! The movie obviously takes its name from the popular 2006 comic book event of the same name, which saw Cap and Iron Man lead opposing sides in a battle between heroes (civil war).

Civil War looks like it'll spin-out of events in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). It will also mark the first on-screen, in-costume appearance of Black Panther. There's gonna be a lot of these movies, so let's try to keep key information in the right threads.

Related Topics:
- Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier (2014 film)
- Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015 film sequel)
- Ant-Man (2015 film)
- Doctor Strange (2016 film)
- Spider-man (2017 film)
- Black Panther (2018 film)

- Previously Reported: Feige Says Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange Not Official, Black Panther 'Big Part' of "Civil War" [Oct. 28, 2014]

While a straight adaptation of the 2006-2007 Marvel Comics event series "Civil War" would be impossible to film -- for a lot of important factors, including the integral role played by Spider-Man, under the live-action control of Sony -- Feige stressed that it would stick to similar concepts but be a "Civil War" firmly set in the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and all the films leading up to that point, particularly this year's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and 2015's "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

"The generalities of the Act are the same," Feige said. "Something happens -- perhaps it's cumulative of things that have happened in all of the movies up to this point -- that has made the governments of the world say, 'We need some oversight of these guys.'"

While the comic book "Civil War" was focused largely around superheroes being compelled to reveal their secret identities, that dynamic doesn't make much sense in the MCU since most of those characters don't have secret identities. "It's not about the secret identity thing as much as it's about 'who reports to who,'" Feige said.

- Frank Grillo talks Crossbones' return in 'Captain America: Civil War'

Frank Grillo’s role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier opened a big door. Although he was only in about half an hour of the film, there’s already rampant speculation about his return as the villainous Crossbones in Captain America: Civil War. And no one’s more pumped about it than Grillo, who loves the character.

“[Winter Soldier] was only a taste of what’s to come with the next film, and I couldn’t be more humbled and excited,” Grillo said. “They just kind of called and said, ‘What kind of shape are you in? We’re going to need a body scan.’ They scan your body so that whatever you wear fits you like a glove.”

Hopeful for a return, Grillo talked about his love for Crossbones, noting that, “He’s a badass. He is just vicious. I like the idea that it’s no holds barred. I love the physicality. We all know what Crossbones represents in his world.”

All I hope is that they don't make the pro registration side resort to cartoonish ends justifies the means villainy like they did in the comics. The premise of Civil War was great. The execution on the other hand...

Captain America is one of my favorite characters in history, and Chris Evans is tremendous as the Star Spangled One. I'm so glad he's once again one of the world's top heroes.

On Frank Grillo: he kicked ass in Winter Soldier. I'd welcome his return, no question.

If it's anywhere near as good as Winter Soldier was, I'll be happy. IMO Winter Soldier is arguably one of, if not THE best Marvel movie released so far.

- Marvel, Sony Discussed Spider-Man's "Captain America: Civil War" Involvement

Marvel Studios wanted to include Spider-Man in 2016's "Captain America: Civil War," according to emails leaked this week from the Sony Pictures hack.

According to [The Wall Street Journal], the emails reveal extensive discussions about the proposed crossover that went as high as Sony CEO Kaz Hirai and Disney CEO Bob Iger. In an Oct. 30 email to Pascal, Sony Pictures President Doug Belgrad even floated the possibility of Marvel producing a new Spider-Man trilogy, with Sony retaining “creative control, marketing and distribution.”

The talks with Marvel and Disney eventually broke down for undisclosed reasons, with the documents revealing that as of Nov. 30, Sony executives were planning a January "Spidey summit" to discuss the future of the franchise.

I don't really understand the rush to assume Spidey's presence is needed in a movie version of Civil War. The high concept is Iron Man's guys against Captain America's guys, and Spidey unmasking and spending time on both teams is not only unnecessary, but erased from the comics timeline that did it. So, who really cares if Spidey's there or not?

That said, you've gotta think the way Sony's going with these things, they wouldn't be doing bad business if they got in on the Marvel ride. With the world drowning in a sea of superhero mega-franchises, integrating seems a whole lot smarter, at this point. Even if thresholds for half-arsed versions of characters are kinda en vogue [on TV, at least].

Getting Spidey in the Marvel movie universe is a fun thought, any way.

Winter Soldier is going to be one tough movie to out-do. It was the rare case the sequel ended up being better then the first flick.

Sucks that Spiderman and the X-Men are not "Marvel" crossovers in the movies.

Man, why can't these big movie studios just get along? I'm sure somewhere inside those head-honchos still lies the child that grew up with the comics and really just want to put aside the legal bullshit so they can bring all these characters together.

Kevin Fiege explained that the heroes inspiration to rebel against the registration act would be because they choose not to work for the government rather than maintain their secret identities (something along those lines). Besides i feel like spiderman is the only one whos identity really gets outed The press event idk if its already been posted: http://youtu.be/L2VoJuVfbjI

During a press event in Beijing today, "Captain America: Civil War" directors Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed a few more cast members for the 2016 Marvel film.

"We've been preparing for the movie since the one debuted last year," said Anthony Russo. "So, we've been working on it for a long time now. We're very happy how it's coming along. - Sony Pictures Entertainment Brings Marvel Studios Into The Amazing World Of Spider-Man

Marvel's Kevin Feige to Produce Next Installment of the Spider-Man Franchise with Amy Pascal

(Culver City, California, and Burbank, California February 09, 2015) – Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man.

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Spidey may or may not be finding his way into Civil War, after all.

- "Sinister Six" Reportedly Still in Development Post Sony/Marvel Spider-Man Deal

Additionally, [The Wall Street Journal] cited a "person with knowledge of the matter" that the first Marvel Studios film to introduce the new big-screen Spider-Man will be 2016's "Captain America: Civil War." This has yet to be confirmed by Marvel -- the announcement stated that the new Spidey will first be seen in a Marvel Studios film, but didn't say which -- but sounds likely, given the timing character's prominence in the comic book "Civil War" storyline.

- Frank Grillo Teases Crossbones' "Captain America: Civil War" Appearance

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" star Frank Grillo took to Twitter and Instagram to tease his transformation into Crossbones for "Captain America: Civil War."

Likewise, Grillo Tweeted out a picture of the character from the comics, warning heroes like Thor and Captain America to get ready for his return. The picture may allude to what Grillo's costume will look like in the film.

Really hoping for the legit, whole hog Crossbones this time around.

- Daniel Bruhl Confirms He's Playing Baron Zemo in Captain America: Civil War

Actor Daniel Bruhl has confirmed that he will be playing the hooded villain Baron Zemo in Captain America: Civil War. (Well, hooded in the comics anyway.)

Known for his roles in Inglourious Basterds and Rush, Bruhl told British newspaper The Independent he would be playing Captain America's antagonist when the film begins shooting toward the end of this month. Word had leaked earlier this year that the actor might be playing the character.

Looking forward to seeing Baron Zemo in all his purple masked glory!
(Won't be kidding myself into hoping for any dalmatian fur, though.)

AWESOME!!! Love Zemo in the comics. So Civil War is going to have Baron Zemo, Crossbones, and Winter Soldier(possibly as a good guy).

- Martin Freeman Joins "Captain America: Civil War" Cast

With "The Hobbit" trilogy now behind him, Martin Freeman has joined another major film franchise -- the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel.com announced Tuesday that Freeman has joined the cast of 2016's "Captain America: Civil War," in an as-yet undisclosed role.

"From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in 'The Office,' Martin's range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said in the announcement. "We couldn't be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

Doesn't strike me as major casting, but I suppose you never know!

- "Captain America: Civil War" Starts Production, Adds Rudd and More to Cast

Production has officially begun in Atlanta's Pinewood Studios on Marvel Studios' "Captain America: Civil War," and with it comes an official Marvel press release that confirms the film's massive cast is even bigger than fans previously suspected, with Paul Rudd appearing as Ant-Man, and William Hurt reprising his role as Thunderbolt Ross for the first time since 2008's "Incredible Hulk."

Here's the official synopsis of the film: "'Captain America: Civil War' picks up where 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain."

- Purported Captain America: Civil War Concept Armor Reveals New Iron Man Armor

Some alleged concept art from Captain America: Civil War may reveal Iron Man's new armor for the next Marvel movie.

Blogger Umberto Gonzalez (formerly of Latino-Review) posted the following two images to his Instagram account.

The armor seen below is believed to be the "bleeding edge" model, which in the comics was an upgrade to the "Extremis" model and allowed Tony Stark to mentally command it via nanotechnology.

IGN really is horrible, isn't it? I dig this design, any way. Could maybe use a little bit more gold, but it's not bad at all.

First Photos Of "Civil War's" Crossbones, Falcon, Captain America Surface

Now that production is underway on "Captain America: Civil War" in Atlanta, pictures have started to emerge of the cast on set. After a few days of shooting in civilian clothes, new photos published over on Just Jared show off not only Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie in full hero gear, but they give us our first look at Frank Grillo suited up in his Crossbones gear.

Boo hiss! How do you go from Batroc in the orange and purple, to completely copping out on Crossbones? Weak, man. Weak!

- Scarlet Witch’s New ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Costume Is Making Us Feel Green With Envy

Okay, let’s talk about this costume. After the slightly more comic friendly costume she donned at the end of “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” it looks like Wanda is going a totally different direction in “Civil War.” Same long coat, but green? We’re into it, because frankly, Scarlet, we don’t give a damn.

- Jackson Not in "Civil War," But Wants Marvel Contract Extension

In an interview with Collider promoting the upcoming movie "Big Game," Jackson said he's not in "Civil War," though he "can’t figure that out."

"It's really great to be the connective tissue between so many different characters in so many different films, that brings those guys together," Jackson told Collider. "But I’m not in 'Captain America 3.' I can’t figure that out, but I'm not. I guess I'm still out there, trying to figure out what happened to S.H.I.E.L.D. and who these other people are."

Jackson was not part of the large cast announced last month for "Civil War," Marvel Studios' third "Captain America" film. Barring a significant misdirection or last-minute change of plans, these recent comments seem to rule out the chance of a surprise appearance.

In the interview, Jackson is very complimentary of his time as Nick Fury -- calling the role he's played since 2008's original "Iron Man" an "amazing honor" -- and expressed enthusiasm for extending his Marvel Studios contract.

"Of course [I'm interested in returning]! I'm looking for a contract extension right now, yeah," Jackson said. "I'm looking to re-up."

Kind of a bummer, but the misdirection theory looms large. Could live with a break from Fury and SHIELD, too.
