I'm gonna be different than errbody else and say Finland
Finalnd is definitely on my mind, it's one of the few Northern regions of the world I want to check out (I'm not too big on majorly cold places)

Japan isn't a bad country either I tell you. It is ranked as the #2 most innovative country in the world. Japanese people have other connections to Finns too, for example we have similar names (Mari, Aki, etc.), excellent video games (Finnish games: Max Payne, Alan Wake, Angry Birds, FlatOut, Trials HD, to name a few) and you know how much there are games in Japan. Then again, take into account that our population is mere 5M whereas Japan's is 127M and you can play games and read anime enough in USA too, right? Finland has a lot of history to tell about, in 2017 Finland celebrates its 100th Independence Day - we have had to defend ourselves from Sweden's kingdom in the medieval times, and Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union in WWII yet we're still breathing, haha.
Nokia, sauna and things such as the draining cupboard that is a common part of the kitchen all around the globe - are Finnish. Finland was nominated as the #1 country of the world in 2010, so the crime rates are pretty low. We are in fact pretty open-minded though we demand quite a lot from politicians; Finland is also one of the least corrupted nations in the world and of course we're civilized due to the education (There are no slum areas here). We are also part of the European Union and we've been active in its conferences ever since the 90s. I will probably spend a year as an exchange student in USA at some point too because being an exchange student is always marvelous I hear. Man, get over here and see you in the university next fall. Be there!
** 'Tarkata' is Finnish for 'to notice' - you'll have to notice the Tarkatan differences (Mileena) or you're in a mess. The Jedi fighting style, Rautakäsi, is Finnish for 'Iron Hand'. The Lord of the Rings series utilizes our language even more heavily than MK and Star Wars combined. Finnish is quite easy after the basics in the long run.

Northern Lights oh dear, that is just breathtakingly beautiful.
I'd probably roll with Helsinki, I'm assuming the University of Michigan would most likely set me up in the capital, though I would love to check out any of them.
I like that band, a lot actually and it's not usually my type of music, but I will check out I-tunes or Amazon mp3 and get it, there's something just awesome about that song. The vocals in particular, you've got awesome taste for sure.
As for Mount Halti, I checked it out and its the highest location in Finland? Jeeze that's awesome, I need to get in shape for that lol.
It's amazing how I've been ignorant of how many contributions come from Finland, I adore Saunas and although I don't play most of those games, Halo and Max Payne always looked awesome.
I remember when I was in Germany several summers ago, it was barely night, it was definitely a confusing and fresh experience, I loved it though.
You should definitely give it a shot, we loved getting exchange students back at my old school, we've had quite a few from Brazil, Germany, and South Korea to name a few.
Low crime rate is definitely a plus, one of the appealing things about both Finland and Japan. the U.S. has a high crime rate, but I was lucky to live in an area of Michigan than has an extremely low crime rate and still has areas with that urban big city feel.
You'll have an interesting experience here, no matter what, but due to the large scale of our country it would be a bit hard to give relevant info as it all would depend on the region you go to school.
What year are you in at college?
I'm a sophomore for all intents in purposes at the University of Michigan.
