I feel ya, brony. Season 3 needs to start NAOW!
I could care less if Bronies redefine masculinity. I know who I am and frankly, being masculine is a non-concern for me.
I've been sort of girly in areas all my life. I hate dirt (at random), bugs freak me out and I enjoy fruity/iced/fruity and iced drinks.
You can hate me now....but I won't stop now....

Anyone else wonder why invaders, zombies, post-apocalyptic settings and/or dystopian futures have become so popular in our culture in the last five to ten years?

Do you think that's all it is though? I dunno, as much as people talk about the Mayan calendar coming to an end, I really doubt that there are a huge amount of people that see Earth falling in to the sun (or whatever is supposed to happen) as the likely result of a calendar that dates back thousands of years coming to a close.
I know that someone once said that you can tell a lot by a society from how they choose to entertain themselves. I just look at what's growing in popularity or at the height of popularity and it's violence (shooting games, UFC etc), voyeurism (reality shows, twitter, celebrity centered magazines and TV shows etc) and then you have this influx of vampires, zombies, post-apocalyptic and dystopian motifs.
I just find it interesting, I guess, and I wonder what that means about us as people, or if it means anything at all.

I have said it once and I will say it again.
The Mayan calender is the biggest load of shit ever. Here's why: The Mayans could predict the end of the world, but not their own civilization? Something doesn't add up there.
Me personally, I don't believe the world will end in our lifetime. The world will be around long after humans are gone. But that's just my opinion.

I don't like germs, keep my hands clean by washing them at least twice, mostly thrice. Bugs are freaky to me as well, and spiders are scary. There are thoughts that cross my mind and have very different scopes in comparsion: There are times when I'll think of God of War and/or Marvel Comics' Punisher-esque violence. Other times I'll think of the concept of love, in its pure, uncorrupted form.

It's not the answer, or even the most interesting element, but you definitely have to consider that a common thread between all those things is that they're cheap and easy to produce. Entertainment is not aiming high right now, and while there's plenty of good to be found in all of those things, it's low threshold material for the masses, for the most part. Obviously that bridges to the questions of culture, but it also says something about the present quantity of the stuff, which has had periods of popularity before.

I think that alot of these things can be cheap, or to take it to another level, low risk-high reward, especially when something turns in to a bonified fad like vampires and zombies have.
I agree though that entertainment isn't aiming very high right now, though I don't claim to be far above it by any means. I just wonder what that says about us as people. Is our civilization declining? If so, is it just an American decline or a worldwide decline?
ISure, alot of this stuff has been popular before, whether it was grindhouse stuff from the 70's or the old black and white pictures... I find it interesting that alot of the creature features and dystopian motifs have been popular at periods of cultural disarray (the Great Depression and the post 60's aimlessness of the former counterculture movement).
Does that mean that we're in one of those periods right now? I just kinda wonder if it's that, if it's a more general decline or if there's more to it then that. I mean, it's all readily available because the masses want to consume it, right? I just kinda wonder why it's all so popular now, at this point in time and what it all says about us as people.

I heard a rumor that Kristen Stewart (sp?) is playing the lead in the movie adaptation. Any truth to that?
I'm sorry but I think she is an awful actress. I've never read the book but I think it would be a let down to have her in the movie. Just my opinion.
I haven't heard who's actually staring, I just heard that they are making a movie about that book and possibly it's two sequels.
I can't stand Kristen Stewart either. She's always a ditz when she's being interviewed or appearing on talk shows. Her acting skills are just dreadfully painful to watch every now and then... It was really hard for me to sit through Snow White and the Huntsman knowing that she's technically "hotter" than Charlize Theron.
I really can't see Stewart taking this role for Fifty Shades just like how I'm still not picturing Angelina Jolie as a great choice to be Maleficent despite that there's been pictures released and people saying that she could do the part. I'm just not a big fan of Jolie since Tomb Raider.

I'm not a Kristin Stewart fan either but I think it would be hilarious if she had the lead role. Seeing as how Fifty Shades of Grey was a fan fiction of Twilight.

There are a lot of characters, some with better arguments for representing the series as a Champion than others. Being "king for 20 years" -- that's championship criteria. MKO deserves better, Ermac deserves better. The living satire of MK fans with no frame of reference for tournament structure or competition? Kinda funny. The pubescent whining and anti-establishment votes, not so much.

Seriously.
I voted for Ermac because he's my favorite character, and all of you should vote for who you like more. It's not a true result otherwise (though that notion was thrown out the window the second that Scorpion lost).
I always vote for characters that I personally enjoyed playing as and because they're my favorite characters. Always have a reasoning behind why I voted for them. But even when someone states their reasoning, there's always going to be that one person who has to talk down about your reasoning and think it's ridiculous that you're voting for that particular character.
I voted for Sub-Zero in this round because he's always been my number one character to play as. Was the first character I played as, first to perform a fatality with, and the first to beat a game with. Some might think that it's a good reason to vote for, others might think it's kinda stupid. I don't know why people would think it's a stupid reason, but there are those out there that do think against you even if you have a strong reasoning behind why you voted for that particular character.
Mainly, those who have to create double to triple accounts just to get their characters to get a move on in the polls.
I will agree, yes, she does look really cool and yeah, despite that I'm not a Jolie fan, I'll go see the movie because Maleficent IS my favorite villain right next to Frollo. However, I just still don't see it with her, and it's not because I'm not a Jolie fan, I just can't see her as a witch. You can, probably, I just don't see it... Yet that is. Maybe a trailer could get me to see it, and it probably will.
Though I will say, I HATED the Yahoo article about how they were comparing her Maleficent look to Lady Gaga... Maleficent has been around longer than all of us users, this is what Maleficent looks like, minus the green skin that Jolie doesn't have. There is NOTHING in that picture that resembles Lady Gaga AT all.
