I'm really wracking my brain trying to find a movie I watched on TV a long time ago.

I think it was a horror movie, and I clearly remember a part where a dog goes swimming in a pool, and the pool cover mysteriously activates, causing him to drown. I'm pretty sure there was some malevolent being that caused it.

Anybody have any ideas? IMDB and Google are no help whatsoever. It would have had to been made before 1998 or so...
