I'm so pumped for this game. I decided to make a thread about it.

If you haven't played the Elder Scrolls games it's a RPG, it's awesome, and has a huge diverse world you can plunge yourself into.

The story on this one is basically dragons are coming back and only one person can stop them. That would be you of course.

Unless you suddenly get caught up in the side quests and dungeons. It happens don't worry.

I know this isn't exactly the best thing ever.

But I'm super pumped for this game (and Batman Arkham City but thats another thread wink )

Post your thoughts as usual. And if you don't like the series explain or I will do something like post a funny picture...

Where's dibula when you need him?

I think the game looks pretty fun. I never played any of the Elder Scrolls games, but I'm interested in this new one.

I'm so hyped for this game. 11-11-11 can't come sooner! I have it pre-ordered and got half of it payed off.

Oh, and I found this 40 minute video showing off new footage. Dark Brotherhood confirmed! I haven't watched all of it yet but so far it looks incredible!

Does anyone know what the pre-order bonus is?

I don't but I'm pretty sure it's something awesome.

Dark brotherhood!!! Vampirism is still here. I wonder if you'll be able to be Lycan in this one? I hope so.

I can't wait to watch the 40 minute video. What inspired to make the thread was http://www.gamesradar.com/xbox360/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/preview/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-hands-on-preview/a-20110808185216854069/g-20100727104555695026.(sorry for no link on the phone at the moment) I had known about the game but this inspired me to make a thread.

I really hope they push the consoles to their limits this time.

[Killswitch]!!! I can't believe you haven't played Elder Scrolls!! Best thing about them is you can jump on them at any time and still understand the story.

The Elder Scrolls is the one franchise in which I absolutely obsess over. Don't get me wrong, I love MK. However, the Elder Scrolls have captured me in a way no other game has.

More detailed analysis on the story, taken from UESP.wiki

Skyrim, the fifth game in the Elder Scrolls series, takes place in Skyrim 200 years after the Oblivion Crisis. A newly revealed language, the "tongue of the dragons", plays an "integral role" in the story. The High King of Skyrim has been murdered, triggering a civil war among the province's people, the Nords. Many Nords wish to secede from the empire, which has been declining in power since the fall of the Septim Dynasty 200 years earlier, while others believe the empire is still worth preserving. A prophecy foretold by the Elder Scrolls is fully realized by this last event; dragons have returned to the land, and the Nordic god Alduin rises to consume the world. The player character is the last of the "Dovahkiin" (or "dragonborn"), mortals who are born with the soul of a dragon and can speak their language. Esbern serves as advisor, himself one of the last of the Blades, who swore to preserve the Empire.[1] This prophecy is also spelled out on Alduin's Wall, a stone wall at Sky Haven Temple, the secret hidden refuge of the last of the Blades.

As a major Elder scrolls nerd, there are some key points I feel that should be noted.

First, the Dragon Lord Alduin that is mentioned is none other than the Imperial god Akatosh. Yes, the same dragon god who saved everyone's ass in Oblivion. Why is he suddenly bent on destroying the world? We can only speculate, but my educated guess is that he is just fed up with all the bullshit his world is going through. The empire has crumbled since the Septim line ended, Vvardenfell has pretty much been annihilated after the Ministry of Truth fell on Vivec, the beastfolk provinces have succeeded and Skyrim has broken out in Civil war over the Empire's very relevance. The problem with this theory is that Alduin hardly matches his imperial identity of Akatosh. Alduin is seen as a vicious creator and destroyer of the world, while Akatosh is seen as the Patron of the watchful nine divines. This has been the one part of the revealed plot that I can't wrap my head around, but all will be explained in due time.

Most released gameplay features can be found on youtube, but here is some new info that has me stoked even mire.

150 dungeons in the game, created by a team of 8. Does an 8 man team sound small? Well think again. Oblivion's dungeons were created by one person.

70 voice actors. Yes, this blows Oblivion's 14 voice actors out of the water.

You can reportedly get married to an NPC in Skyrim.

If you have shield equipped you can bash enemies with it to cause them to stagger, opening them up for attack.

Conformed guilds: (Forgive me, I can't remember the exact given names as of now. I'll re-post with more info soon)

Mages-type guild
Fighters type guild
Thieves Guild
Dark Brotherhood

I'll post more later with a few links to where I found this info, and to some recent hands on reviews of a demo a few fortunate testers got to play.

Dibula that was a great read.

150 dungeons sounds awesome. Over 70 voice actors is really gonna change up the quests. It got boring hearing the same voices over and over again

Every bit of footage and every screenshot so far has been from the 360 version. PC version should look far superior.

they have had some PC stuff out, otherwise we wouldn't have seen some of that gorgeous looking stuff from the get go. It seems odd that they wont post any PC gameplay.

No, really, there's been no PC screenshots released yet. That's all 360.

And the reason they haven't demoed any PC footage yet is because Todd Howard says it's much easier to demo on 360; they don't want to have to deal with a keyboard and mouse on stage. Plus if console users were to see PC footage, they would feel ripped off when they realized their game doesn't look as good.

I suggest you Skyrim enthusiasts become a fan of The Elder Scrolls on facebook. There are several hands on reviews some people have had with Skyrim. Here are some noteable quotes that show off the amazing amount of detail Bethesda has put in.

"Todd had decided to come and check on my progress, and seemed surprised that I’d made it to Falkreath, but let me in on a secret - within most taverns, you can pay bards to sing songs, and if you choose the right song, or the right combination of songs, you encourage the bar’s patrons to drink up and be merry. Merry damn drunk, that is, even to the point of passing out where you may then casually pickpocket them and be on your merry way, without so much as flinch."

"There’s no more ice-skating; your character moves with purpose and weight, and looks so much more attached to the world around him. About the only gripe I would offer is that jumping still felt a bit floaty, but certainly not enough to break the game, and when you think about it in a sense of RPGism, the fact you can level up your acrobatic skills means, by and large, it’s a requirement anyway."

(Dibz note-they fixed the diagonal moonwalking)

"Night had fallen, and the world took on a new personality with new creatures like a torchbug and luna moths that I collected."
"Instead I headed north alongside a babbling stream that had salmon jumping out of the water and stumbled upon a small farm populated by a cow and hen. I watched the hen for a bit as it walked around aimlessly while clucking, and then stole the egg that was sitting in its nest."

" I soon learned that I could shoot the ground in front of an oncoming attacker with my flame spell, which would set anyone alight who passed through it."

"I wanted to see how the new animation system worked with swimming, and so went out to look for a watering hole with my final 10-minutes. I found a stream and followed it some, but never really found anything large it connected to like a deeper lake or the coastline. However, with only a few minutes left I noticed the glimmer of sunlight on water just beyond an embankment. Here there was a decent sized pond, though the drop down was a steep one, I took it anyway knowing I’d been buffed. I waded through the water which was only about knee-high. Disappointed, I turned around to face the direction I’d just come and underneath the embankment’s overhang, etched right into the rock-face, was a steel door with a skull emblazoned across it. This thing was so out of whack in is place, there was no way I was going to ignore it. Approaching the door I was given the option to interact where I was immediately presented with an ethereal voice offering me a riddle to solve, and three options to choose from (I can’t specifically remember the riddle because I had only minutes left and Todd was now looming over me, expressing that I’m never allowed near his games again for having found this hidden gem). Suffice to say, I chose incorrectly, and went back to test the other two options to see if I could activate anything, but alas, no. It’s not clear if this door (or doors) was disabled for this hands-on, but it was one of the most exciting discoveries I came across, and given Todd’s reaction, definitely something they’ve been harbouring up their sleeve. I only wish I knew more about it. "

(Dark Brotherhood hideout is my [Dibula's] guess.)

These are just a few quotes that I found very interesting. Check The Elder Scrolls facebook page for about 4 or 5 solid demo reviews that explain a great deal about how the gameplay works.

Dunmer screenshot just released:

Click it.

Looks much closer to Morrowind than Oblivion. Which is both good and bad.

Argonian for life. I tend to go stealthy with them. My first character in Skyrim shall be an Argonian Assassin. Hope we get to see an Argonian soon.

I'll post a bit more gathered info tomorrow. I would now, but I feel too unmotivated. I will answer one question though. I tend to play as a Breton Battlemage. They tend to be weaker at lower levels, but as you level up the 50% magic bonus pairs great with other enchanted items and a level 50 character can truly be godlike. On the 360 version of my Oblivion, my Breton is 100% magic resistant and has a fair amount of resistance to normal weapons. I also have a decent amount of reflect spell available too. More often than not, wraiths end up silencing themselves when I battle them.

Speaking of silencing, here is a fun thing to look out for in Oblivion. In the fighters guild quest where you look for Azani Blackheart with Modryn Oryn, watch his combat carefully. You may occasionally catch Oryn silencing a rat. Good for a decent laugh.

Once upon a time (in Daggerfall), I used to be a High Elf to exploit the awesome immunity to paralysis and create a deadly custom class. Alas, they suck nowadays.
I'm always a Breton or Nord now.

Oblivion was a huge letdown for me. I really enjoyed Morrowind as there were endless things you could do, but in Oblivion, it felt so bare-bones and empty. It was a lifeless world.
Daggerfall will forever be my favorite, I believe. Only problem was it was too damn hard, and horrifically buggy.

I'll be keeping an eye on this game. Seriously hoping this one will make up for Oblivion...

I agree entirely. I have high hopes for Skyrim, but I have a love/hate relationship with Oblivion. I loved exploring the huge outdoor areas, but the dungeons were painfully boring, the main plot was tedious and uninspired, and only occasionally would a sidequest be interesting(ah, and boring combat). From what I've read, though, Skyrim addressed almost all the things I hated about Oblivion(though I can't say I'm pleased that dragons are considered a big deal in a fantasy rpg.... this series will never, ever be known for its originality, at least in theme)... But I'm excited nonetheless.

I can't wait for this game to come out!! I know dragons might seem a bit cliche, but dammit I'm looking forward to my first encounter with one of those badasses!! I'm also really excited about the new spell system they're using; combining and mixing spells with both hands like a true wizard is gonna be awesome!!

Argonian screenshot released. Looks awesome, really happy they didn't decide to over-sexualize the females. I'm excited to see the males.

More character screenshots should be coming soon, a new Khajiit and Nord shot were posted on the Facebook page.
