The Top 10 didn't disappoint. But seriously, 3 Link games? Wow.

Also, was really happy to see Uncharted 2 on the top 20.

I'm just glad SofC made it really high. I'm just glad the Top Ten were old ass legendary games. I'm fine with the top ten.

I did not watch the last part of the show. I wanted to read the list rather than listening to what these guys had to say about what games came in what place.

All I know, CoD is in this part of the list and I'm not happy...

I approve and since it's the only videogame my mother ever played, I'm sure she would approve too! wink

My personal no.1 is Carmageddon (1997, PC) though.

Totally rubbish list, not that it's surprising. Though I can agree with the top spot, SMB3 and SMW are far superior in every way.

Bioshock, the third best game of all time?! Yeah, no.

I agree number one and number seven should be swapped. Sure, the first Super Mario Bros was what made videogames big, but other than that, Mario 3 was superior in almost every way; better gameplay, graphics, more levels, more power-ups, and tons of secrets.

But I didn't really care about this list in the first place. It's nice that my favorite franchise made it in the number one spot though.

The fact that any Call of Duty game made into the top 20 shows this list is complete bullshit.

Who the hell made this list?

Bioshock was the only game I thoroughly enjoyed my first playthrough, but was unable to find the desire to play through it a second time, no matter how much time passed. It was good, but far from #3 material.

Bioshock is one of my favorite games franchises, and to have it number three is crazy. I don't think it should have been put so high. Maybe high 30s or 20s.

i expected doom 2 to be higher but i'm glad it was higher than stupid call of duty. way to many nintendo games on the list. no tekken,no virtu fighter,no soul calibur, mvsc, i was disappointed with that. glad tony hawk was higher up.

also i have a question about shadow of collaussus. why is it so good. i'm eventually going to buy it but what's so great about it.

these lists are never to be taken seriously.

One question... Where's Tomb Raider?

I was wondering the same thing. I thought for sure that at least the first one or second one would make the top 50 and it didn't even make the list.

Also, can someone explain why Pong, the game that basically started it all, is #100 but Asteroids is #4? I know that Asteroids was a huge game back in the day, but I don't get why THIS game is so much higher than say, Donkey Kong or, again, Pong.

Also, a Link to the Past at #2? No. That game is basically the first Legend of Zelda with prettier graphics. Great game, sure, but I wouldn't put it in the top 20, especially given that there are two other Zelda titles in the top 11.

As others have said, I'm completely baffled by Bioshock being #3 all time. Sure, it has a really pretty setting and a cool story, but at the end of the day, it's a great first person action/shooter. It takes a few other things from other genres as well, but for being 3rd on the list, you have to be, at minimum, the best game from your generation and I wouldn't say that about Bioshock. It's up there, but not there.

I also wouldn't have put Diablo 2 quite as high, and yes, Call of Duty in the top 20 is so nonsensical it's ridiculous.

So yeah, some gripes, but other than that, I'm relatively okay with the top 20. Much better than the rest of the list, which on the whole, was steaming hot garbage.

Some key omissions:

Virtua Fighter (Saturn): The first polygonal fighting game, if not one of the first polygonal games, period. It's in the Smithsonian, for crying out loud. Plus, it was an awesome game.

Tekken 3 (Playstation): The best entry in the biggest selling fighting franchise (yes, more so than SF or MK, look it up if you don't believe me).

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (Dreamcast): This game looked and played great on the fledgling Dreamcast and the story and voice acting were among the best in any game ever.

Gran Tourismo (Playstation): How does one of the best, most insanely complete racing games of all time not make the top 100?

Adventure (Atari): Widely considered to be one of the best Atari games ever made, it's credited with being one of the originators of the RPG genre.

Captain Skyhawk (NES): One of the best flying games ever released in the early generations of gaming.

Golden Axe (Genesis): One of the best games in a genre that was almost completely avoided on this countdown, this game and this series was one of the classics of the 16 bit era.

Dr. Mario (Gameboy): One of the best puzzle games in the vein of Tetris and Columns, it had addicting gameplay and music that you couldn't get out of your head.

Final Fantasy Tactics (Playstation): This is arguably the best strategy-RPG ever made. Every other game in this genre is compared to FFT, which makes sense because it's a phenomenal game.

NFL 2K5 (Xbox): I don't know if Madden 2005 got on to the countdown on accident, but this is the game that every Madden has been compared to ever since it was released, and the comparisons are usually unfavorable to EA's football game.

WCW/NWO Revenge (N64): This game basically created modern wrestling games, and it was insanely addictive. This game spread around dorm rooms during the era like a virus.

Soul Calibur (Dreamcast): This game was flat out beautiful when it launched on the Dreamcast. The gameplay was fantastic, the sound and fluidity of movement, everything about this game was near perfect.

Donkey Kong Country (SNES): One of the best games on the SNES, bar none. The grahics, the depth of gameplay, everything about this game was quality.

Beyond Good and Evil (PS2): Few games have blended genres as well as this one, all the while making compelling characters and a great story. Fans have been clamoring for a sequel ever since. This game should've been in the top 30 at least. Instead, it doesn't even make the list.

NHL 2009 (Xbox 360): As much as I'd love to put NHL 94 on this list, the game that really changed things was NHL 2009 and the introduction of the right analog stick. This game took NHL games to a whole new level and created a metric ton of Youtube goal demonstrations.

I could keep going, but I guess that not all games can be Angry Birds or whatever lol. grin

Just curious, but what games would you all have put on this list instead? What games would you have left out of the top 100 entirely?

A few games I would add...

Swordquest: Probably created one of the best video game competitions ever until the video game fall of 87'. It had over $150,000 in rewards, and it would have been one of the all-time greatest events in video game history, but because of that downfall, the competition never finished.

Perfect Dark: By adding AI to multiplayers, made doubled everything that Goldeneye did and made things better. I just thought that this game is just great.

Tomb Raider: Made a lot of male gamers happy, brought so much challenge, and made a change for female heroines... Despite that Samus did so, still.
