mario brothers
maybe the 3rd one I'm betting.
Or zelda, something unoriginal like that.
the first CoD was good, CoD4 brought a great modern warfare game up there, and it hasn't changed since. But yeah, I'm betting they'll put that in the top ten.
Glad to see Contra there, although I was hoping it would be higher on the list.
Going Commando was my favorite Ratchet & Clank game on the PS2 so I'm glad they went with that one.
At this point I doubt Sly 2: Band of Thieves is going to make it, but a Jak & Daxter game might (preferably Jak II).

Rock Band 3? Look, Guitar Hero started the whole plastic instrument music genre (that's already dead) and while I get that RB3 has been very well supported with DLC, is that really a reason to put it on a top 100 all time list?
GTA4... *sigh* you know this means that we have at least two or three more GTA's on this list. I can see it being on the top 100 list but again, this high?
Angry Birds, I'm not even going to dignify this with a response.
I loved Quake 3 Arena back on the Dreamcast, but seriously, all of the shooter love on this countdown is getting out of hand. It's starting to feel like they're just putting a game from every popular title in the genre on the list of the best games of all time.
I'm surprised that Ghosts and Goblins is so high as well. It's nice to see the name on the list, but I probably would've put it in the bottom 20 at best. It was kinda cool for it's time, but at the end of the day, it was more or less just a nice little side-scroller with a character that ran like he was trying to get out of quicksand.
Still, at least this part of the list is better than the first two. Lot's more games that deserve a spot on the list or a least deserve to be in the discussion.

there may be a lot of shooter love going on, but quake 3 belongs on the list. Never again will ever be able to run every map in an entire game backwards.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Quake 3 Arena. It's a great game and I still pop it in every now and then. But putting that game in, with SO many other shooters? Then again, this was a list that put Halo 3 ahead of Castlevania SotN, Mario Kart and GTA 3 (if I recall correctly) so I'm still taking this entire list with a huge grain of salt.

This list continues to fail. They have more than one title of the same franchise. GTA4 and GTA3, Halo and Halo 3, Resident Evil and Resident Evil 4.
What bothers me is if they had both RE1 and RE4, then where the fuck is RE2? RE2 is better than both of the REs on that list. Unbelievable...

Oh I agree with you there, personally I think halo should be on there. it validated shooters for consoles (which had the unfortunate side effect of making future FPS games shit...like say for instance it's sequels.)
SotN is in my top ten, then again I try not to make lists because I have a crappy memory.

I think that the first Halo definitely deserves to be in the top 20. It, along with Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast are two games that both practically made my eyes fall out of my head when they first came out. The graphics, the gameplay, both really ushered in the next generation of consoles to me.
Plus, with the first Halo, it was really one of the first games to do the whole multiplayer via system link, which was somewhat of a forerunner to online mulitplayer via consoles. For sure, Halo one has a big place in history and deserves high honors. Instead, it gets #37.
But Halo 3? I get that it sold alot, and that's great. But beyond sales, I see no other reason why a sequel that really didn't add a horrible amount to the overall experience or the genre beyond a create-a-level mode should even crack the top 100. Yet it's #23. Oh, I just saw that it also beat out Ico, Super Mario 64 and Final Fantasy VII. Wow...
I guess it's just a shame to me that so many other fantastic games are being left off of this list while every shooter franchise (Wolfenstein, Quake, Halo, Gears of War, Unreal Tournament, and most likely Call of Duty and Doom) gets at least one entry.

Despite that I am not a Final Fantasy fan whatsoever, to have Skyrim beat the seventh game... I find that extremely hard to believe. Not to mention, how in the world are these guys listing these games? Super Metroid being that low in the thirties? I would have thought that this game would be in the top 20. It had one of the greatest boss fights video games have ever seen... To have a game like that so low... No, I know G4 is nothing but a bunch of idiots when it comes to listing games but honestly, now they're just pulling games out of their asses and thinking that it deserves this spot when we real games truly know that having Angry Birds be better than Sonic the Hedgegog is truly a bunch of horse shit.
I mean that game literally help create system rivalries when Nintendo and Genesis were at each other, you're telling me that an app game is better than a 20-year+ game? Unbelievable.

I feel like app games are just a fad. Angry birds will die down at some point. But Sonic the Hedgehog... I know people who still play it on Sega Genesis. Sonic is a gaming icon who has cemented his place in gaming. Angry Birds can't hold a candle to any game on this list.
And seriously, does anyone know how in the hell Words with Friends made this list? So it sold well big deal? Games should be on this list because they revolutionized gaming, not because it's on your handheld and the only time you play it is when your taking a dump.

Is anyone else really scared by the fact that we still haven't seen Call of Duty on the list yet and now we're getting in to the top 20?
How about the fact that Call of Duty will be higher than five of the best RPGs of all time (FFVII, Skyrim, KOTOR, Chrono Trigger and Panzer Dragoon Saga), Castlevania SotN, Super Metroid, Ico, Mario Kart and GTA3?
I still think it's insane that Halo 3 beat out most of these games as well, and that it also beat out freakin Halo, who was at #37 (I thought that'd be in the top 15 for sure).
This list is so messed up. It's looking more and more like Final Fantasy Tactics, the best strategy RPG of all time, won't even make the top 100. Where's Tomb Raider? Where's NHL 94? How about Virtua Fighter? Gran Tourismo? Shadow of the Colossus? Donkey Kong (or Donkey Kong Country)? Jet Grind Radio? Shenmue? Twisted Metal 2? Legacy of Kain?
No?
You'd rather put every Call of Duty game ever made on the list instead?
Sure, go for it, G4. I'm really curious to see what makes the top 20 aside from SMB, SMB3, Zelda and Zelda OoT.

When it comes to apps, they die out very quickly. I bought Angry Birds Space a month ago, and within a week, I managed to beat and it grow tired of it. Sonic, on the other hand, I have the Sega Genesis Collection for PS3, and I don't grow tired of playing all of the Sonic games, even if I can't add a Game Genie code in it.
Why should an app game, that's extremely popular, be considered a competitor for a game that has been in the industry for a heck of a longer time, such as Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Sonic? I find that hard to believe that Pong was beaten by a spin-off of Scrabble. I can't find words to describe how absurd that is. And to listen to these guys talk about each game hurts my ears.
I'm no fan of G4's hosts anymore. Morgan Webb annoys me and the replacement for Adam Sessler isn't remotely entertaining. All these other guys, football players, actors... They're trying to be funny with their experience with the game itself, but it doesn't help. They never fully explained how Words with Friends could be more entertaining than Pong. So you're spelling words... With Pong you have to watch out to see if your opponent is going to be a tricky bastard and score a point on you. Or how Mortal Kombat is apparently one of the most controversial games on the list, then Wing Commander 2 comes along and you have some guy talking about how he's looking at his cats differently after playing that game.
Bias, bullshit, and unfunny. And people wonder why no one likes that channel anymore. Basically after tonight, I'm done watching this channel until E3 comes back.

That's kind of my attitude as well. I don't mean to sound like some gaming elitist, but I really have to wonder who determined which games would be on the list and in what order.
I mean, did they just have G4 "experts" determine the list? Or were the people talking about the games given a chance to provide their input? No offense to Soulja Boy and that dude from Friday Night Lights, but this list is beyond ridiculous.
It's probably the worst list of this nature I've ever seen. God... Call of Duty will be a top 20 game. I'm still trying to wrap my brain around who would actually come to that conclusion...

I don't even care anymore.
Greatest \=\ Best, Top-Rated, Most Profitable
Greatest = Influential in Game Devs & Market
First of all it was a surprise to me that Angry Birds was going to be in the best 70s but when I found that out, I thought that the game could even be in the best 40s. Super Mario Bros. (I played it back w/ NES, w00t!) defined gaming a lot and it was popular at the time. However, Angry Birds is being sold at 69 cents while Super Mario was about 150X more expensive at the time (AB gains popularity). From what I could tell, the two things that made the game to the list were 1) being a kickstarter for app games 2) having been downloaded for over a billion times → huge influence in gaming.
I want you to know: Angry Birds won't in fact fade away. It's here to stay much like SM. It's a phenomenon that will get its amusement parks, toys, candies, movies, animated tv series and spin-offs. It's easy to be angry about Angry Birds because it's so cool to but this is an interesting factor: apps and cloud services are the future. Apps are future. Far, far away in the late 21st century there would still be apps from what I've read. They're just getting started. That's quite something to step on Super Mario & co.'s toes who were supposed to hold their places forever as the early birds.
Twenty years from this on Angry Birds could be higher. Now it's not valued yet. Apps are the gold mine for IT experts right now. I felt I had to tell this after the pages of Angry Birds fuss. That's all. I know about the series, the world's first Angry Birds Land was recently opened here. Michael Bay directs the movie. I don't see why one should hate on Angry Birds when it's not a milking franchise like the most of the ones out there seem to be.
'Course, the rank's what made the most fuss – but that's G4's issue to take on. I'm unfamiliar with Words With Friends thus I can't criticize it much. I agree that Rovio Ltd. created a witty formula of pre-existing things, LOL.

*I'm not aware of what G4's criteria are however.
Hopefully we won't see three Call of Duties in the top 20's. Many of my childhood favorites are left away. At least Punch-Out is there. Do keep in mind that I'm not a fan of this list either. I'm betting on Tetris in top 5.

If any new CoD beats Battlefield 3 I'm going to be pissed.
I'd say in any CoD game belongs on that list its cod4. it was the only great game in the series really. It was all a copy after that.
though I'm willing to bet since we are in the top 20 already Battlefield wont even show up on the entire list.
I wonder if diablo will make it? Road Rash? Earthworm Jim?

I actually like the Top 10. I'm glad Shadow of the Colossus was high in the rating. FUCKING LOVE THAT GAME. If I see any cod beat any of the classics they've shown, I'm going to be VERY disappointed.
