Hey guys, this thread is not meant to be an insulting thread to Nintendo as i consider it very high in my appreciations, but do you guys think that Nintendo should drop the towel and stopmaking games after it's next console?, i mean day after day more and more developers are dropping off from it's consoles, the biggest example is Midway. Even though they will be delivering great titles such as new Mario Brothers and Zelda Series dont you think they are just not understanding the market? the keep doing some games that really have no purpose. IMO it's days are counted even I'm a Big Nintendo Fan.

Pls don't start with console wars or insults to Nintendo i dont want you to ruin my thread, eklse, the mods will be notified.

Yes, I too think that Nintendo will meet it's demise. Personally, I think the only thing that's keeping Nintendo afloat, are the sales of the Game Boy and their old franchises.

I also think that the DS will put the company under even further. I don't think it will sale too well.

Hey MKF. Very nice topic. I for one, am also a huge Nintendo fan, but I do believe that the gaming philosophy of Nintendo will be their downfall. I think they should stop making consoles and just become a 3rd party developer. But who knows, maybe Nintendo does have what it takes to survive.

Hey Meta!!!!!!!!11 grin, well i think Nintendo is only relying on 6 or 7 heavy franchises and on it's portable game console, i think they forgot about the generation that grew up with them and that now are adults, they're not understanding and fullfilling all of theconsumer needs, we'll have to see when the next gen consoles arrive and how will the DS go agaoinst PSP, AGAIN, I'm A GREAT NINTENDO FAN!

Truthfully, no. I think Nintendo is going to be around for years to come. It's a shame that here in the States that it is overshadowed by Sony and Microsoft, but that isn't so in the rest of the world. It's also a shame that Nintendo can't seem to shake the "kiddy" label, but I guess that's what happens when they are more interested in quality games, and not what is popular here in the states. I'm not going to deny that I'm a Nintendo fanboy, but I do leave my personal defferences aside when discussing topics like these. Truthfully Nintendo doesn't need Midway (which isn't that important of a company). They still have Capcom, EA, Square Enix, THQ, Namco and many more other game companies working with them. Plus their home staff is amazing on it's own. They never lost there focus on the market, and the reason why they don't implement a CD and DVD player in their systems is because they prefer only dealing with games (which is what every consoles main priority should be). Let's also not over look that Nintendo has sold more GBAs and GBA SP than all the console combined. They have a large artillery and use it to their advantage.

So to answer your question, no. Nintendo is here to stay.

In a word, NO!

As a Nintendo fan from the beginning I've seen Nintendo make many good and bad choices. Their current gaming philosophy isn't the best, but at least they;re still here. Nintendo can adapt and change just as they have done over the years. I'm sure they can survive and fight back with their franchises and other games and win back the support they once had. They shouldn't give up just yet!

Go Nintendo! smile

Short term i think they still have another few good years left in 'em. Long term, it's bound to fade out if it keeps with this 'publishing titles for children only and without any dvd support' garbage.
I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to find a place where the Gamecube has outsold a Sony unit, or the Xbox, and the industry is still moving in that direction so unless they draw up a miricle, Nintendo is doomed. Afterall, you can't refuse to change AND refuse to leave.

It won't happen. They've stated that if they are done with consoles, then they are done period. They won't go third party.

Actually in Japan the PS2 is the No.1 system, with Gamecube in second, and X-box at third. That wasn't so hard pressing.

Well even though Japanese are really into Nintendo, it's jsut because they get exclusive games that fit their needs, anime-like and anime-based, but what ahppened to the rest o the world? we need more mature games on Nintendo systems

Nope. Nintendo's still thriving. They haven't reached the point like Sega, and I doubt they ever will (Sega's new president really pulled through and the company is again flourishing). Nintendo's still dishing out games for all ages to enjoy. Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and many others. What Nintendo didn't realize with the Gamecube was that the components on the other systems (DVD and CD player, good online functions) were going to be so successful and market drawing.

At this point, the Gamecube has made a lot of good marketing decisions (dropping prices, bundles), and even without a lot of third-party support, its still proving very well. While some software has been flops from their older console counterparts (Mario Kart: Double Dash, Pokemon Colosseum) a lot are STILL proving high in the sales (Metroid Prime, Super Smash Brothers Melee).

Even if Nintendo does lose the console war, there is one thing Nintendo dominates above all else: Portable gaming. The Game Boy Advance (even the original, excluding SP) are still looking really good in sales. The Game Boy has beat out Game Gear and N-Gage (but fuck, the N-Gage was terrible to begin with) and now has competition in terms of the PSP. Will the PSP do well? Probably. Will the Nintendo DS do well? Probably. However, Nintendo can fall back onto the NORMAL Game Boy if the DS fails (there are many differences, which I don't care to go into right now).

Nintendo is far from finished in the never dying console war, and it will be a long time from now before they give up in the fight. I'm by no means a large fan of Nintendo (I've always preferred Sega, really) but Nintendo won't fall any time soon. That is fact.

Well Wanderer you said it yourself, relying only in Portable systems out there will not be convenient once the PSP is out, as you know PSP will have almost PS2 Graphics, DS will only be near 64, as for the games that can be laucnhed on the next gen console, Nintendo will have to broaden their sights if future is what they want.

You didn't pay attention to any E3 info on the DS did you. They were running Metroid Prime on it, which is a Gamecube game. It looks just as good.

Maybe since the only thing Nintendo 's past 2 consoles only seem to be offering only its mascot games. 3rd party support for Nintendo have been horrible. I am a huge NIntendo fan but I am tired of games like MK: Deception , BloodRayne 2, star wars battle front skipping Gamecube. I enjoy more 3rd party games more than Nintendo flag ship games( NIntendo's flag ship games are good, but its all about selection). The same thing happened during the N64 days. Next gen I am considering going to MS and Sony. To me its clear rom the software charts to me people see Nintendo 1st party games are the only reason to buy the system, people like me that do own a gamecube and do enjoy a large range of games and not just 1st party games. Game makers are canning GC versions of games left and right. To me this is very troubling.

YEah nintendo needs to relize when they are wrong. they call online a "fad". meanwhile they are losing support and sales because of it. the only games i would get on gamecude if i had one would be the ones made by nintendo (SSMB, Metroid, uhhh. and resident evil (thats made by capcom though)). the controller sucks for any other games not made specifically for it (like ssx 3). If it went out of the console buisness and went third party, it would be the best third party company ever. but they are never going to do that. but theyve messed up with 64 and gamecube, they need to wise up to what people want with the next system.

acctually in Japan the Xbox barely beats out the PSOne, no they're going all out in the next console but since theres no DC, MS needed to model it's console on something else... guess what that was (read XBOX2 Specs)...

Well the prob with XBOX in Japan is that they're not making anough regional games such as anime based and board games such as they like in Japan, but well i hope everything goes well for Nintendo in the next Match Up

If the DS fails to sell well, Nintendo is going down the drain. If that does good, the "Revolution" needs to good as well. If one of them fails, Nintendo is gone. They said they would rather go out of business instead of becoming a third party like Sega, and that's selfish, IMO.
