The reason I mentioned those 5 fighters is because I think Toney has a good shot a beating them. Gonzaga has weight on him but I think CroCop has the better chance of winning. There are only so many leg kicks you can take before giving up. Mirko might low kick him to death. (I hate to see CroCop lose, why did you have to mention his Gonzaga fight? That was the end of CroCops career) But definately do not put him against wrestlers. Not right now. Brock, Carwin, Couture would have their way with Toney. Boxers cannot fight off their backs.

has anyone read this:

Former Boxing Champ James Toney Calls Out Brock Lesnar

According to a press release from HDNet, boxing champion turned mixed martial artist James ‘Lights Out’ Toney (0-0-0) will appear on tonight’s episode of the network’s popular ‘Inside MMA’ news program and calls out current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar (4-1-0), declaring:

“I want Brock Lesnar. I’m the heavyweight champion of the world vs. the UFC champion. That’d be a hell of a match... I’ll fight anybody you got.”

Toney has been turning up the volume since signing with UFC a few weeks ago, and is apparently so confident in his abilities as a fighter that he believes himself worthy of an immediate title shot against the hulking Lesnar. Ignoring Toney’s non-existent MMA resume, he naturally fights around 210 lbs. which would put him at a severe disadvantage were he to step inside the octagon against any top UFC heavyweight, never mind Lesnar who tends to show up well north of 280lbs. on fight night.

is this guy for real?

Well, that's not really accurate, because heavyweight is 265lbs, so I doubt Lesnar packs on over 15lbs overnight. But Lesnar is so afraid to get hit that it's almost comical. He practically turned his back to Mir after eating one of his jabs, and Mir isn't exactly known for his hands. If Lesnar was stupid enough to not immediately sprint into a shot, all it would take is one punch. Fortunately I think Lesnar is actually that much of a fucking idiot, so I could see it happening.

Toney should try cut to 205 though. He'd walk through Machida's hands hit or miss and smash his face to pieces.

Calling out Lesnar huh? Lesnar would rip Toney's head off. Toney needs to realize he is gonna have to do more than box mma guys. Lesnar isn't going to box. Lesnar isn't stupid. Y'all saw how he beat Mir. He beat Mir in a very intelligent way. Don't give him any room for submissions and punch him while he doesn't have any room to breath. Toney off his back will present no threat at all. He isn't a bjj expert. Toney has no chance of staying on his feet with Lesnar. Lesnar has taken everyone he has fought to their backs. Toney needs to dance and jab. Too bad he will still end up getting ground and pounded.

Toney would do pretty good in the lightheavy class, where everybody seems to be a standup fighter. The problem is getting his fat gut back to 205.

Hey peeps, just wondering what people think of mixed martial arts comps like UFC etc. I personally love it but from reading the papers over the weekend alot of people still dont take it seriously as a sport and more like human cock fighting.

'So which side are you on?

I hear in the octagon, there are no rules.

People die in almost every match.

Sickening, this underground cage prize fighting circuit. Illegal almost everywhere in the world.

I love it. They give you the fights you wanna see. Well except Fedor vs. Brock but it's all good. MMA is fun to watch at home but I went to one front row and it's one of the coolest events I've ever been too.

Because that's what it is.
Bernard Hopkins on the UFC

Pretty much what he said, I really don't get the appeal of the sport. I know there are lots and lots of people out there who love it, but I'm not one of them.

Death and serious injury is possible in all contact sports.

I find it funny that some mk fans don't like MMA. MMA is just a really weak version of mk. It's just real without special moves, storyline, and I hope to God we never see a fatality.

There aren't many greater feelings than knocking your opponent out, or knowing that if he didn't tap you could have broken his bones. And the greatest part about it is that they both get up and fight again.

I like wrestling for the funny storyline and know they put their bodies through more than anybody from sports but it usually isn't real and is scripted.

I like boxing because it may just be the hardest sport of them all. Sweet Science baby. But they don't give us the fights we want to see. Way too many politics involved. To me and many other the sport seems to be dying. I don't want to see it happen.

MMA. The fights we want to see. Realism. Few politics. Great fight(most of the time). No storyline though but it doesn't need it.

That's my opinion anyway

Ive watched every single UFC since I was 10. I practiced BJJ alot in the last couple years and have been in a boxing gym for bout six years havent really been able to go as much any more after the birth of my son. But I still follow every thing there is contact sport wise Boxing,MMA,K-1 kickboxing ive always really enjoyed these "sweet sciences". I dont get pissed off when I hear thing like "human cockfighting"or shit like that I dont get that point of view but I dont bash it. Its a sport were to men willing train and punish with physical anguish and hard training to accomplish something as seemingly small as winning a fight but to a fighter something so much more. Ive been in a few amatuer MMA fights and its not two guys making themselves hyped up and pissed of for no reason its about respect and testing yourselve and your opponent. Plus everyone trains and prepares their own unique way and theres just something about knowing all that hard work and mental clusterfuck pays off. Everything from the challenge of reading an opponent to keeping a clear enough head (while its getting rattled) to know to stay composed and find the next best move to make like a physical chess match. But to some it up the love of the sport for me comes from all these things it teaches you certain thing you can translate to life lessons. Like not quiting when you think your out and having the stregnth and will power to push on at the brink of your bodies physical limits, hitting the perverbeal wall and driving through it. And also that if you work hard at training and life as well and deal with the impossible that you will have the means to carry on.

I personally have no interest in mixed martial arts or boxing. For some reason I like professional wrestling, probably because I know they aren't actually beating the living fuck out of each other. A lot of people enjoy it though and as long as there's a demand for something, it will find a place in the world.

I'm a fan to an extent. However, I do think there are some things that shouldn't be allowed.

Pride for instance, allowed kicks to the head on a downed opponent. They would literally just try to stomp the other guy's face in. When they landed, it was pretty stomach churning (yay, I'm not totally desensitized).

I only like old UFC, like from the early 90's. PRIDE was probably better, Don Frye and Dan Severn were the shit.

I don't like how they're allowed to pull hair, bite, and rip their opponents eyes out. I also don't like how they fight until the other person either dies, or can't continue.

I think you really have to separate the perspectives.
People can be offended, uncomfortable with, or confused by the violence, and quite fairly equate it to cock fighting in it's basic mechanics, but I don't think that opinion can have any impact on its legitimacy as a sport. Not liking the consequences of the sport can't reasonably disqualify it as a sport, when it meets the same physical and competitive measures of boxing, wrestling, and other well established and respected combat sports.

I couldn't honestly make an argument for such a degree of violence as an integral part of the sport. It would require some major restructuring, but UFC could operate on a competition martial arts style points system just fine. As it is, they've already undergone extensive rule changes since the early days of the pure mixed martial arts concept and it hasn't damaged the brand all that much.

At the end of the day, there's an element of brutality that isn't going to be for everyone. That's fine. The potential for blood or injury isn't what attracts me to MMA, but I do think it's an honest part of the sport, and I appreciate it as a measure of, and threat of, the violence. It underscores the elevation of will and conditioning that professional fighters need to compete, and really, should be understood as a demonstration of the severe consequences of fighting, rather than a mere glamorizing of them. The latter being something the pseudo-socially conscious would do well to consider, when absolving people of responsibility for their own actions.

I was attracted to early UFC for the same reasons I enjoy something like the Street Fighter games. I like the competitive atmosphere and the mixed variables of pitting specific styles against each other. I miss that aspect of UFC, but also enjoy what it's become. Regulations might have taken some of the variety out of the sport, but I think it's also galvanized it's credibility as a sport. There's a chess-match quality to a lot of competition that isn't always immediately evident to outsiders, but is proven to be very infectious once you get a handle on it.

It's the fundamentals of competition, really. Two guys with an enormous potential to act, making decisions in the blink of an eye that pit physical and mental acuity against each other. It's pure sport!

I'm not a die hard, but I'm definitely a fan.
