I think he's talking about the midget leagues... Heinous!

Not seen one of these so thought i'd make one. So as we all know the MMA industry is growing rapidly with such promotions as Strikeforce, UFC, Bellator etc. I myself enjoy watching UFC as i find it much more pleasing than boxing as it is using every aspect of fighting and not just sticking to the hands.

Actually I think this thread covers MMA fighting as well.

Not really! I wouldn't consider that sort of 'wrestling' as a sport or Mixed Martial Art as its all staged.Just wanted to make a thread about MMA only and not crossovers with WWE and TNA.

Oh. Well alrighty then...

I guess i'll start it off then. For me the featherweights and light heavyweights put on the most exciting fights. In the light heavyweight division there is just so much top level competition and no-one has yet shown they can dominate that division. Maybe with Jon Jones we may see and new rominant champion but i personally think Machida will dethrone. With the likes of Rampage Jackson, Rashad Evans, Shogun Rua, Lyoto Machida and my personal favourite Forresst Griffin this is one division you just have to love!
Featherweights are another division in which the competition is tough. The fights are fast and always exciting. What is also stunning is the way the current ufc featherweight champion Jose Aldo is just tearing his opponents from left to right! He is also one of the best pound for pound fighters.
with refereeing i think Herb Dean and John Mcarthy are the best as they will let a fight go on whereas another referr such as Mazagatti will screw up a fight for you by either stopping the fight too early or too late.
for my pound for pound rankings i believe GSP = 1 and Anderson Silva = 2 this is because chael sonnen exploited The spider by his poor wrestling and if they were to fight GSP will use his wrestling to win.

The outcome may be fixed but you can't deny the athleticism and talent required to be a great professional wrestler

If they could wrap a more mature atmosphere around it then I would probably have more respect for Pro Wrestling.
I actually tend to think the world of MMA isn't so much growing as it is shrinking, with Zuffa attempting some kind of new sporting monopoly in pretty much the exact same way that Vince Jr did with American pro wrestling. I mean, MMA and traditional pro wrestling are the same biz, so it kind of makes sense that someone would try it eventually. But it kind of blows for fans, in my opinion. I'm going to gamble a guess and say that if Zuffa can take somehow take control of Japanese MMA, we'll end up turning to China for entertaining big money MMA promotions because they'll be the only country with enough financial pull and outright stubbornness to sustain a new Pride FC or something. But we'll see I guess.
Oh and MMA refereeing? Total joke. UFC jumping in bed with the NSAC was both the best decision the company ever made financially, and the worst thing to ever happen to the sport in terms of retaining it's beautiful nature.

Dan Mirgliotta is the best ref. Did you see Kongo vs Barry? that was some good shit.

I don't know, from what I've seen, Herb Dean does a pretty respectable job when it comes to recognizing when a fight is stalling, and overall, I've never really had a problem with any of his calls.
I'm on the fence about the Barry/Kongo fight. I counted at least twice that fight should have probably been stopped. Hell, Mirgliotta was an eyelash away from stopping it at one point. I mean yeah, it was a great comeback story and all, but the fighter's safety should be top priority, and Kongo took some serious damage before he managed to stumble to his feet and catch Barry running in.

MMA is shrinking! You sir know absolutely nothing! The MMA industry is the fastest growing sport with tickets for 55000 people selling out in less than 30 monutes. And refereeing is a joke? Oh please! This is one of the hardest sports to referee for therefore they need to have a good understanding of the fighters condition and whether they're good to carry on. You cannot compare the WWE to MMA as the WWE is sports entertainment and therefore staged. with many celebrities attending UFC events how is it shrinking? With the likes of David Spade in the crowd really shows how the fan base has grown. The last time we saw someone famous in the WWE was Mike Tyson who is now regularly praising the MMA industry.

Comedy is the hardest of all genres.
Think about it, those people have to keep serious and Kayfabe despite some of the angles being utterly ridiculous over the top stuff. Add that to the fact that several wrestling moves need professionals for them to be pulled off. By virtue of being potentially lethal.
Those are some high quality physical actors, but it is entertainment. That does not make it anymore worse or better than actual martial arts. It is just a different purpose.

The only reason people are giving Mirgliotta praise is because Kongo had an amazing comeback. Had Barry not been countered people would've ripped Dan for not stopping the fight much sooner when Kongo would be lifeless on the ground.

Ooh that's a tough one. UFC 132 was a great card but i think UFC 129 was also a very good card like 126. The ones im looking forward to are 133 and 134!
Fight of the year i have to go with either Aldo vs Homminick or Gray Maynard and Frankie Edgar that was a war!
Also i'd like to raise another point. Mike Goldberg doesn't know anything about MMA. All he talks about during the fight is how much time is on the clock like we're all blind.
Your thoughts?

Yea not really a fan of Goldburg, although he is meant to communicate to the casual fan so his simplicity is somewhat warranted. Rather him than Michael Cole but thats enough wrestling for this thread.
Not too exited for 133 but ufc rio should be good

Yeah i dont really know about Goldberg. he can kinda hype the fight when KOs or Submissions happen but i dont really care.
Joe Rogan on the other hand. he is like my hero, have you seen the video of him teaching GSP the turning side kick?
UFC pisses me off in so many ways.
number one; their main fan base. stupid drunk meat heads who boo ground game. like if you want to see someone fucking stand up 3 rounds with out the possibility to see take downs, go watch boxing.
also i have never seen so many band wagoners. My favorite fighter was Jon Jones, and when ever he got the title shot i was like crazy happy. then he destroys shogun. now everyone is on his dick saying they liked him from the start. BITCH i was a Jon Jones fan ever since he fight Bonnar. but of course no one believes me cause of the previous points i stated.
I like watching NON UFC mma. I used to get this channel called HDNet and they had like mad things on their like DREAM and one of them was extra japan i am trying to think, Songoku? or something. They had Shinya Aoki and i watched that fight where he trapped guys arm under him so he couldnt tap, and then broke his other arm that was so sick.
I dont really watch strikeforce, but i watched their last event was was very impressed. I gained a new favorite fighter thats NON UFC. his name is Matt Ricehouse. Watch out for him in the future. hes going to be big one day.
And so these are my top five favorite fighters in order, and in all companies.
1.Michael Johnson - UFC
2.Jon Jones - UFC
3.Matt Ricehouse - Stirkeforce
4.Shinya Aoki - I think he is one strikeforce
5.Kenny Florian - UFC
Top 5 most hated fighters.
1.Brock Lesnar - UFC (Even though i think he is going back to WWE)
2.Nick Diaz - prolly strikeforce i think he is their champ
3.Nate Diaz - dont care
4.Tito Ortiz - ufc
5. Frank Trigg - i have no clue where he is but ever since he got owned by Matt Hughes hes been a heel to me.

Man, he had no reason to stand that fight up. Brock was staying busy the whole time. Did you not see Mir's face at the end of the first round? it was ridiculously mashed up. Herb is the best referee in my opinion. Big John is a good ref as well but I think he stops fights a bit too early sometimes. I've grown fond of Josh Rosenthal. Yamasaki is decent too. Never liked Dan, I think the dude is a big goof. Anyone remember the Mir vs Carwin fight? Dan was just standing there watching Mir take big shots to the head while he was clearly out. Even Rogan was saying stop the fight. The Congo/Barry fight was the only good call I think I have seen Dan make.
On another note, I can't wait until 133 and 134. Im looking forward to seeing Belfort KO Akiyama and Shogun Vs Griffin 2. Silva vs Okami is going to be intresting to watch as well.

Bellator is another mma show i really love to watch! Believe me one day it will be as big as UFC. I an't wait for the Phenom to return and ko akiyama. PRIDE is also beast! I want Tom Kong Watson the Bamma champ to join a big promotion and to see how he fairs against top level contenders. His recent fight with maurilo was good but maurilo has just lost it. I love the ground game except for when Clay Guida is the one on top. Shoulder shrugs to win you a fight? I don't think so. I felt really sorry for Pettis after cause man is a beast of a striker but Guida is just a monkey. Ever since joining the Jackson camp hes just become a fighter who fights to win and not lose.
I enjoy ground game cause i understand it as i myself am a brown belt and a red band in muay thai. I always enjoy watching bj penn fight or the rocha guy who fought Jake Ellenberger cause the way he reversed the sprawl to get a kimura was beautiful.

Yeah cant stand booing ground game, bjj is probably my favourite aspect of MMA. One thing thats been bugging me is how everyone jumped on the judge giving Cruz 50-45 over Urijah, even though judging as of late has been shit the fight was so close that Cruz in someones eyes could have won all 5 rounds. 50-45 is misleading and doesn't really mean the loser was dominated, unless it was GSP Koscheck 2

Totally understand what your saying. But boy am i glad tito is back! What was funny is when tito one in the crowd there was a guy celebrating more than tito i couldn't stop laughing! But one things for sure Miguel Torres defeated Demetrious Jonson in no way did mighty mouse do anything that could have made him win that fight. Its true what they say. BJJ is not scored in mma whilst wrestling is highly favoured. Also miguel torres had much better striking on the ground which then again should have given him the win as well as controlling the fight so judging is retarded. In my opinion Bas Rutten should be a judge. He knows so much and i love him !
Didn't get to see the torres fight but judging is far to biased depending on what the judges view is toward styles.
got a funny interview with Chael Sonnen

Good thing is if things go pear shaped for him he could be heel of the century in WWE, what do they say characters are usually best if its real personality times ten? Sonnen trumps every heel when he's turned half on. complete dick but fucking funny
