While i was browsing through the net i came across these interesting videos of an upcoming fighting game that is currently in its early stages of development...
Main Menu and Character Select Screen
Free Training Mode
Fatality Teaser (after the Shang Tsung Soul Drain)
the person who uploaded these leaks has claimed that this will be the most gruesome, realistic fighting game yet. each character will all have their own set of special moves but also, their own unique "Fatalities".
as a big fighting game fan, i am quite curious how this game develops... but being a MK fan at the same time, i feel its a bit lame how they are trying to use MKs famed "violence and gore" to gain public interest... but from the sounds of it, it looks like they will try to outdo MK in everything (grittyness, gore, realisim etc).
im curious to hear your thoughts.

Time Killers and Bloodstorm tried jumping on the blood bandwagon a long time ago; it didn't make them good, and it didn't make them memorable either. These guys have to do more than just surpass MK on one aspect, they have to do a good job with making a fighting game that can either compare to or out do MK, SF, and MvC.

Never even heard of this game. Will need to see some more videos and actual gameplay before I say it's any good.

It's going to take a lot for Death Cargo to outdo the franchise that made it possible for this game to even go into development.

At face value this may not seem to be the most original idea for a game, but these (apparently) independent devs hardly owe much to MK. The exploitation of violence has been around for far longer than both series.

The exploitation of violence is not the factor.
The impact of Mortal Kombat in terms of its own violence is.

Sorry, but this is kinda vague and really doesn't say a lot to me. What do you mean specifically?
Because if you're taking my entire post as a rejoinder to yours, and if this post means what I think it does, then I'll have to disagree. There is no evidence that MK itself is responsible for the development of this game any more than Street Fighter 2 or The Fallen Angels or Battle K-Road. At this point in it's development and given how much we know, DC and MK only share the theme of violence, which has been a staple of video games and media in general for years. This person is doing this all on their own and there seems to be nothing of MK's in here other than fatalities. He's probably been inspired by MK as well as other fighters, and I'll grant that finishers can be attributed to MK, but such a broad concept as "violence" is in no way the possession of MK. There is no evidence to suggest this game owes much to MK. If someone can find some, then by all means post it, because I just don't to see how attributing the idea of violence to MK is any less unreasonable then, say, believing that MK cashed in on or owed something to Street Fighter for having characters that know martial arts.
Note: If you don't agree with the OP's last paragraph then certain part's of my post may or may not pertain to you, btw. I'm still not sure what you mean.

I'll just say what I said on another forum.
The one character looks like a derpy product of, Lee Chaolan, K' and Ash Crimson doing acid and meth in a threesome. LOTS of acid and meth.
That and the creators have a LOT of work to do if they want this noticed. I got the feeling that it won't quite cut it on gore alone.

This too. He looks like K's coked out older brother.

I don't understand how it is referred to as the "Most Violent and Realistic Fighting Game" when there really isn't any proof of it. I can understand the realistic part, but violence has yet to be seen.
EDIT: Nevermind...saw the fatality video.

Oh God, the names of the characters... while MK is no slouch when it comes to stupid codenames, they are acceptable in their own universe.
Morbo.... Leach.... oh God, it is like the 90's again:
Bloodshot and Youngblood in: Deathmate Red: this blood's for you!

the guy "piranhasoldier" explains that the makers are very much inspired by the Street Fighter series (SF3 and 4 are mentioned in the description in one of the videos).
by the looks of it, they are trying to combine the "depth" of SF with the shock factor that MK is known for. what frustrates me is that from the info so far he hasnt mentioned anything that is original in this game.
the game looks good (as in visuals) but there is so much more to MK and SF that make them good fighters... also the fact that this character shown, "Plasma" looks like an emo puts me off a bit. i hope that this isnt a common theme among all of the characters.

Is there a fatality for this game shown or at least gameplay of the other character? I'd like to see how the finishing moves are supposedly violent and realistic.

The fatalities for MK this guy made were amazing, I can't wait to see more from this although it will take alot to be better than Mortal Kombat.

What I meant was that Mortal Kombat's legacy involves the franchise having tons of blood and gore, and the franchise (due mostly to it's blood and gore) has had a big impact on the gaming culture, as well as pop culture in certain aspects.
You could say Mortal Kombat is a pioneer of M-rated games.
I strongly feel this is something Death Cargo will have a very tough time competing against.

Lol. I hope that picture with the nose is not real. When it showed the close-up in the that main video thread, ol' whathisface had a normal nose.
He looks like a pig with a bleach-blonde bob, wearing black lipstick.
Had a hard time reading that story, too. Isn't PiranhaSoldier Chilean, or is he Peruvian? ...I can't remember....
I'll be watching to see how this turns out.
Edit:That 'fatality' shown is just plain gross. People think MK is all about sadistic violence...this game is about sadistic violence, or so it seems.

He's Brazilian.

i just added a link to an in game Fatality teaser.
me personally... i feel this is going a little too far. MK you could laugh off the Fatalities due to the fact that they are unrealistic.. but this Fatality is just raw... :S

Yea I remember seeing that when it first came out and I just watched it again. All I have to say is..... DAMN. That looks so brutal but to the point that it looks real enough that you don't even want to hurt the person that bad.

Yeah. It's actually quite distasteful. I'm starting to realize why Ed boon makes MK's violence a bit comical. You don't want to scare your audience away.
