Both. But if I had to choose between which cds and mp3s I have more of, it's Rap.

And btw, yes, in alot of the mainstream rap/hip hop music, the lyrics are just there to have something being said over a nice beat that peeps are gonna dance to and make the artists and label a shitload of money.

But there are alot of good lyricists out there with superb talent that dont get the recognition they deserve. I'm sorry if you have not heard of any.

Rock, why? because there is a significant amount of shitty rock BUT there is a lot of good rock too.

Rap on the other hand is just shit. I can't think of too many rappers that have some reasonable lyrics. In this case lyrics ARE a big deal because if the lyrics aren't put together well... you have nothing left to enjoy- you cant enjoy the artificial beat, you cant enjoy the rythum, because thats really all that is left.

No offense, but that is bullshit. Pure Bull. You are saying anyone can rap. So let's hear you freestyle, making it sound Good, while hundreds of people watch. Listen to lyrics, you need talent, all music needs talent, you got to know how to think on your feet, you cant go up there and be like "Yo yo yo yo, you are like.... .... ... hmm what rhymes with like... or yo... hmmm" You got to know what the hell you are doing, rock needs to have talent, instruments and shit, but saying rap doesn't need talent is bullshit.

I like Rock btw.

I used to listen to nothing but rap. But now I must say I prefer Rock.Rappers nowadays are pretty crappy(Except for a few)and I got tired of listening to people that have little or no musical talent. Most of them are lying in their lyrics anyway....

I'll give a quick reply, since I'm about to leave. So I'll have to Edit when I get back. ROCK!!! I'm sure it's obvious to you that I'd say that, if you've been here long enough, and along with my sig ^___^. The Thread weaver said it all in the introduction, "It requires 'talent'". That's why I love it, and I'd have to say that I don't see *alot (as in, 'it's still there) of "talent", but not that much, in new Rock from today. My favorite is most DEFENITELY Hair Metal/Metal from the 80s, the guitar solos CAN bring tears to your eyes. Rough Cutt's ver. of Piece of My Heart has a solo that's TO DIE FOR. The music and lyrics have great beats too.

80s Rock FOREVER!

Old School Rap was a whole lot better, because it was base on the struggles on the streets and many things people are force to live thru. Nowadays, people Rap about Guns, Cars, etc and that is why it lost its reputation.

I still listen to old school Rap in fact, right now I was listening to Dr.Dre: The Chronic and Bone Thugs ~N~ Harmony. Yeah, I do sometimes listen to this new "Rap" songs people make, and yet I am not satisfy. It's degrading to say the least.

Rock all the way. In my opinion, rap is really just ryming words with a beat. I mean some of the lyrics today are just plain stupid and took really no thought at all. At this point, anybody could really rap as long as they have ryming words and a beat (in my humble opinion).

Not necessarily. Especially old Rap was never intended to be that way. Rappers today, took Rap to a new direction. Man, take one of Tupac's songs, listen to the lyrics, and you will be surprise what you hear.

This man speaks the truth! I don't listen to today's hip hop, it's pretty terrible. 50 cent is gangsta for no reason, who's he tryin to intimidate? Ja Rule??? He continuously raps about smokin chronic, and getting wasted yet it's a known fact that he (and only him out of g-unit) DOESN'T blaze, or drink - so he's just as bad as every other 'bling-bling' rapper. (Although his old cd's are good) I agree totaly with the old skool rap being sick. Tupac was the greatest, and if you don't believe rappers used to speak the truth - pick up Nas: Illmatic, it's the greatest rap cd ever imo. Back then they were real from the streets, now it's all commercial fakeness so 15 year old white, surburban kids will buy it thinkin their 'gangsta' cus they wear a bandana or do-rag to their school - which may or may not contain a black person...

Rock music you actually have to play your own instruments not like rap when you got a record doing that for you.
