Then I want you to buy/burn a song by "Dio" for example "We Rock", and sing that pitch for pitch and note for note. You can't do it, can you?? A bunch of noise, my a$$, that is one of the worst things I have ever heard in my life! The thing is that it's coming from an "ARTIST".I liked this thread and had the feeling that there wouldn't be any flaming involved but I guess I was fucking wrong! Did I put put down "his" preferred genre in any way? No, I don't recall doing so. Lemme ask you something too: Isn't there a phrase that speaks of "respecting other people's opinions"?
I have in no way, put your "preferred genre" down. I have no intention to, it's your style and what you like. But I'll say one thing, even if it's over the net, and nobody really cares, " Don't ever bad mouth Rock n Roll ", atleast not in front of me, and not in front of any Truly Devoted Fan.

Which rock?
Current mainstream rock? No. Rock was best from '91 - '97. during the grunge to post grunge alt-rock era. I prefer industrial rock myself.
Rap? Blech. When rappers start playing instruments, I'll start respecting them and possibly check out thier music.

No, I was clearly pointing out your attitude. You are rebutting something that is absolute senseless. This is just a discussion; there is no need for you to criticize him. It would make a difference, if he came up to verbally assail you with insults, but hence they way he was mature enough not to. I agree with you on some terms, perhaps he should have articulated his response more. I am not putting down Rock it just isnt my style--just as Rap is not your style either.

My last post with a,quote from you, was only directed to you in the beginning. After that I directed it to JAX007.
So here's all that's left to say. I'm glad that you *Illusion* atleast have a rational way of talking this out, as I was angry I was as rational as I could be, and would like this argument to finish with this, so that more people have room to post their Reply to the Thread Title. Thanks for keeping things clean

On the issue of talent, this seems like an idiotic question.
Usually in rock, the workload is spread among several people. Those people have less to worry about, but they also have to know how to play their instruments.
Usually in rap, the workload (mainly the writing) is only spread between a few people giving them more to worry about, but then again they don't have to play their instruments (although I was surprised at how masterfully Afroman plays his double neck guitar live)
On the actual issue at hand, I really don't care. I listen to a lot of dancehall reggae, which is derived from rap. The majority of the other music I listen to falls somewhere far away from both categories.

Ok, ALOT of you have basing your opinions (which I respect) on something that really doesn't give a good reason in which bashing another genre. For one, do not say....DO NOT SAY...rap or any music genre does not have talent. That is a first because if you didn't need talent, EVERYONE WOULD BE FUCKING RICH RIGHT NOW and NOT ONE OF US WOULD BE HERE ON THE COMPUTER IN A FORUM AGRUING OVER IT. Now say that isn't a valid point. You can't (you would if you were ignorant).
Do not say that rap is a whole bunch of talking real fast and rhyming because if you have listened to ALOT, I mean alot and not stupid singles of rappers, but their albums as well, then you would know that EACH rapper has his OR her style of rapping. Speed is not an issue neither because not all rappers rap fast.
Do not point out any one rapper and base the whole community off of it because not one person can hold that title of "being rap" as with rock as I would presume you would say as well.
Another point is that parts of the country have different types of rap. I can say generally, the south has what they call "Crunk" music, they don't say rap. That's why you really can't base ex. Lil' Jon's lyrics on the rap genre for he has a different style of rap that was based on having good times (which crunk represents for the most part). The North (east coast ex. New York) is where you find the core of rap music, the originators as you will. That is where hardcore rappers are at. They do talk about what happens in their lives and what they have been in. The West Coast talk about good times as well just in a different style (which has not changed since 90's from my point of view). The Midwest has come up as well with good times.
Now, I know by now alot of Rock Fans are like, stfu n00b. That's because you are blinded by your likes which everyone is (including me, but I can also point out facts that are non bias). I will point out the fact that there are bad rappers that talk about pimpin, ho's, bling bling, killing and all that. That is because all of that is true. We live in a time where that is what all people talk about and live for. We don't live in the past. Take this for example: Developers in the early 90's paid attention to what was fun in gameplay and what looked cool (let's say Mortal Kombat...duh) as the generation changed they changed into what was nice for that time era (MK4 for example) now compare. What was MK about in the first place, fighting, gameplay, blood
. Then what did it turn into, graphics, blood graphics, terrible gameplay, but people still liked it (some, not hardcore, ok). It still sold because it had the name and it had the graphics that it needed to compete with other companies.
The rap game has changed and is now in the progress of still changing. You may love what was in the past and feel nostolgic and don't like what it has become but there always those elements that keep it alive. There are very few rappers that are in the game that has been there since the start (ex. Rakim) and even he changed a little to coinside to what the game has today.
Don't talk about the bling bling as well, that word just got hyped up as well. Big Daddy Kane was talkin about all his jewlery as well (gold chain, rings). So, showing off will always be apart of the game.
Oh yea, and liking another music genre because you think that it has less of a talent than other is a very closed-minded answer.
For people saying that people act a certain way and that they lie about what they do. EVERYONE is a hypocrit. I don't care who you are. So that is a closed-minded statement. And also, who are you to point out that someone does or doesn't do something (ex. smoking, drinking), do you know the person, I think not.
Most of you out there only know of the mainstream rap. You do NOT know of underground rap. If you listen to underground rap then you will actually know more of the rap genre. Rappers do have to struggle, it does take talent. Before you can even try to get a deal, you have to (what we call in rap community) battle people. I'm sure you guys have heard of it if you watch MTV enough or watch BET Freestyle Fridays. There are alot of people killing themselves over how to beat somebody and ALOT of writing goes into it because you have to come right off the top of your head and remember something to bash your opponent. This is where you can find the heart of rapping. The soul is when they write about stuff that's in their life in which most rappers don't until they get a deal because you have to be able to appeal to the audience before you can show your true self.
In no way here have I stated that your opinions are incorrect for no one has that power to change it (cept God...not you ACJ).
If there is a point that I had missed, please tell me.
Oh yea, I had a freestyle/lyric battle here with Garlador and people couldn't choose which of us to continue in the battle because of style and lyrics. If you want me to pull a link to it, I can. (I have quit the rap game for now as well, so don't ask for a battle. I'm working on doing well in college.)
