A piece of me feels likes these people are trolling everyone. Regardless of the situation they are sick disgusting human beings. Ive heard many things. They just seem to like controversy. The state decides to legalize gay marriage so the girl deserved the bullet in her head? No matter the case its clear to me that these people have many haters so Im just waiting for a video taped ass beating of them.

I'd rather ignore them altogether than get so over emotional about their bullshit, brainwashing beliefs. They're a cult, nothing more, nothing less. Ignore them, they'll eventually go away.

Legally this is basically a 1st amendment issue (and i'm not even American). No one has the right to oppress freedom of speech, right? Which is how the WBC justifies their protests. However, surely an injunction against them can be sought on the ground that their brain-dead protests oppress the freedoms of others. (Why does no-one do this?)

On a personal level, it's just sad that these morons have no sense of logic, and even worse that they would seek controversy though such a horrible crime. But they cannot be allowed to continue their hatred and bile on our green and formerly pleasant planet.

Well, unfortunately it isn't illegal for them to do this. It does sicken me that these people choose to picket funerals for the dead. I used to be that kind of person who deemed to find a way to take down this group. Unfortunately, they won't be so easily taken down, despite that they are losing members. I think they have only seventy the last time I checked. I stopped caring about the actions these people do because if you just ignore them, they'll eventually go away.

It's understandable how pissed off people can get when it comes to these dumb fucks, but the problem is that this is what they want you to do. They want you to charge at them with you being upset, yelling and screaming and cursing at them. This is the kind of emotion that they want to feed off of. It's emotions like that which then makes them retaliate with their head-up-their-ass responses that makes you even more pissed off. Police usually guards them, and they have to stand at least several feet away from the place they're protesting. Don't make the long journey to them to deliver a message that they could really care less about. They don't care for your words, they don't care that your mourning the loss of an innocent child, they just care about you getting pissed at them so that they have more to bitch and chant about.

I know it's easier to say "just ignore them" rather than attempting to do so, but in this case, that's really what needs to be done. They're a group of people who cannot be talked to. They don't care about your opinions, your beliefs, your life, pretty much anything about you. They just care about their words and what they believe is right. Nothing you say to them is going to get them to wake up and smell the coffee that what they're doing is immorally wrong. They just want this kind of attention because that's all that they care for.

I mean they wont go away if you ignore them, i am SURE that has been attempted. someone needs to put them in their place with out harming them. i just would not know how to do this

I'm from Missouri as well (though far away from Springfield), and I've seen the WBC in action. There was a soldier's funeral in Columbia they were protesting and this guy from the military at work was recruiting people to join the human wall. They are evil evil people. They aren't going anywhere soon either. They were founded in 1939, and they have a lot of money. Ignoring them does not work and neither does giving them attention. They have a lot of money from lawsuits and settlements they have won over the years. In fact I don't even think they accept outside donations.

I feel like going to the candlelight ceremony for Hailey Owens will be a mistake on their part. People were ready to kill them in Columbia over the soldiers. Springfield is much crazier than Columbia, and emotions will be running much higher for this little girl. They've been met with so much hostility lately that for their own safety they should just stay at home.

Completely agree. It's disgusting what these ass-clowns will actually try and picket and start problems. All I know is that if I was a family member at one of these funerals that these people where picketing, I probably won't hold back if I came face to face with them.

The sad part is, that they are joke in their own community. I don't know if you've heard about the person who bought the house across the street from their church and painted it the LBGT colors. I was reading an article about the person that did it and he said that most people in the community are actually supportive of what he did and that they don't have a problem with it and that they get along and people in the community are actually friendly towards him.

Most people don't seem to realise how small the WBC actually is, they're more or less one extended family.

Unfortunately i think its better to allow people like this they're voice because when you mute that voice, that is when people turn to extremism.

I think it is entirely within the realm of legality to do things that are annoying but not necessarily considered assault or inciting a riot, disturbing the peace etc.

Luckily, many states have now established laws forbidding the ability to protest funerals while they are in session, as well as immediately before and after them.

I'm not sure if this law is in Missouri, but hopefully it is.
