I think that kendo and iaido would be googd for any martial arts, as for ninjitsu if it is a real authentic ryu (school) then it doesn't need to be mixed with another style since it already has everything you need, punches, elbows, head, knees, kicks, throws, weapons and so much more, but it has to be authentic, if not then you better train yourself in hapkido or Wu shu (kung fu,gung fu are the same). Remember a style takes many years to be understood, and more to be mastered you should add kendo and iaido for discipline and concentration, since these will affect the way you see others, but won't compromise what you have already mastered, going to ninjutsu is a great idea if your willing to change your style, if not then don't bother with it it's another world of martial and another way to see. But then again I might be a fool to think that way but ...

Hmmmmmmmmmm.... that's a valid point. commercial schools don't offer the proper foundation that a martial artists needs to even beging to understand it.

Ok, well my injury has come up better than expected, and it's back to full training this week. So much better than the 2 weeks off, 3 weeks light, and then back to full training which I was originally expecting.

Now, to ensure I don't do it again...

Can somebody please tell me (in detail) the combonation you are required to perfect when you are grading to a new belt. I am talking about Tae Kwon Do, and I just need Yellow & Orange belts combonations. Thanks for the help!

The problem is dude, different classes/teachers are likely to have different forms and what not. I've done 3 different styles of Karate, and each has had completely different Kata's and things you're exoected to do while grading. And also with TKD, doesn't the US have 2 main systems? ITF and WTF or something like that? Or is that just world/international (guessing here)? Let us know which one you did and maybe somebody can help you (not me, I did TKD for a whole 6 months, lol).

I reckon your best bet is to just go to a class and see how you do. The worst thing that can happen is you start over again, and is that really a bad thing? I had my black belt in Zen Do Kai Karate by age 14. Here I am at now 20 doing Go Kan Ryu Karate and I'm starting all the way back at white belt again. It isn't a bad thing at all, as a matter of fact my Sensei has me helping him with the lower belts (lower belts must train with the other lower belts in GKR, apparently) since I'm already well and truly experienced and I'm loving it so far smile

Well, Martial arts are my favourite things to do. I started at the age of 9 with judo, but after two years I chose for shotokan karate which I now practise for 10 years. I will go for my blackbelt April next year. Besides karate I practised boxing, kickboxing, pencak silat and I practise since a short while judo again to complete my fighting skills.

There is a lot to say about martial arts and with each of them you can find some positive things and negative things. That's the reason why I don't stay with one kind of martial art.

For example Tae-kwondo. This martial art is fixed on the legs. 90% of it is fighting with legs and the other 10% is fighting with hands. These martial artists are taught to fight on a distance, because in a small reach they can't fight with their legs. Besides that they are limited with their techniques. When hey fight competition they are not allowed to sweep, kick to the back, punch to the face etc. Further is their protection terrible (they have their hands kept low). This will limit these fighters in their complete fighting skills. The other skills will be taught for their belts, but they won't train it as often as the competition skills. So what happens when they have a confrontation on the street. On a distance they can protect themselves, but in a short distance they don't know what to do. So they will be taken down no matter how long they have practised this martial arts.

I don't hate tae-kwondo but I just took it for example. This sport has become very competitive and has lost his old forms. Almost each martial arts has something that will not work in a real fight. So my opinion is to practise not one martial arts, but 2 or 3 and they have to work out for each other.

For example, you have to fight against someone on a distance. You kick to him and you miss, he sees the possibility to get closer to you. You can't kick now anymore, but what you can do is sweep, punch or throw. Not many martial arts have all those techniques in their collection so you have to look elsewhere for other skills.

There's to much vital information here to just let this thread die! I won't let that happen!
